by MarineTLChapter 83: The Crazy Gambler!
“Dear grandson, let me ask you again!”
Jiang Anbang came back to his senses and directly inquired,
“What exactly did that kid say when he brought up this matter?”
Hearing this, Jiang Tiancheng recalled the day Shen Fei first mentioned it.
“He just said there’s a short-term investment that could turn the funds tenfold in about a week!” Jiang Tiancheng replied truthfully.
He had no intention of hiding anything from his grandfather.
With Jiang Anbang’s long and distinguished political career, clear vision, and incorruptible principles, he always saw through the essence of things differently. If something didn’t seem right, his grandfather would surely step in to stop him.
Had it not been for this discipline, Jiang Tiancheng’s unreliable father would likely have already been abusing Jiang Anbang’s name to throw his weight around in the city.
“Tenfold within a week?” Jiang Anbang repeated, then burst out laughing.
“What a crazy gambler!”
“Huh? Grandpa, what do you mean by that?” Jiang Tiancheng asked, puzzled.
“Expecting assets to multiply tenfold in a week? Isn’t that just wishful thinking? That project in Lijiazhuang—who knows if it’ll pay off or not? It’s still a gamble!” Jiang Anbang said in a low tone.
Though he criticized it, his eyes were full of admiration.
“Grandpa, so… does that mean the project won’t work?” Jiang Tiancheng asked, confused.
But Jiang Anbang shook his head.
“You can’t say that either! How can we mortals predict the unknown? What if he wins the gamble?”
If, within a week, the government officially announced that Metro Line 5 would pass through Lijiazhuang, this project really might succeed. However, plans often change, and the proposal hadn’t yet been finalized.
Although he spoke cautiously, deep down, Jiang Anbang approved of everything Shen Fei was doing.
Just from Shen Fei’s visit to the Jiang family and his sharp analyses, it was clear that his foresight was extraordinary.
Such bold and talented individuals with such commercial acumen were rare, perhaps appearing only once in a century. Even Qian Dasheng, the chairman of Qiankun Group, whom Jiang Anbang admired, paled in comparison to Shen Fei.
“Youth with such promise!”
“Grandpa, are you saying this investment is real?” Jiang Tiancheng exclaimed softly.
“Hey, you fool, I didn’t say that! Besides, you already invested your money—what’s the point of worrying about it now?” Jiang Anbang said meaningfully.
Jiang Tiancheng was speechless but admitted his grandfather had a point.
The money was already invested—whether it worked out or not was irrelevant now. Even if it failed, losing 15 million wasn’t the end of the world.
People aren’t saints, after all—mistakes are part of life. Even if Shen Fei seemed brilliant, he could fail occasionally, right? Regardless, Jiang Tiancheng still trusted him deeply.
“Dear grandson, ask Shen Fei if he’s free tomorrow. Invite him over for dinner!” Jiang Anbang said seriously.
“Sure!” Jiang Tiancheng nodded but felt puzzled. When did his grandfather start paying so much attention to someone?
“I’ll also call your father back tomorrow,” Jiang Anbang added after a pause.
Hearing this, Jiang Tiancheng’s expression immediately soured.
“Why invite Shen Fei if you’re going to call Jiang Shengcai back too? He’ll just ruin everything!”
“Ruin? He’s your father! How long do you plan to hold a grudge against him? I know you still resent him, but everything he does now is for you! He may not know how to say kind words, but he always thinks of you,” Jiang Anbang said with a sigh.
“Besides, I want your father to meet Shen Fei. Such a business genius—introducing him to your father can only be a good thing!”
Jiang Anbang had another thought he didn’t say aloud: Shen Fei’s influence seemed to be rubbing off on his wayward grandson. If someone could bring Jiang Tiancheng in line, it was likely Shen Fei.
Perhaps Shen Fei could also help mend the strained relationship between father and son.
Little did Jiang Anbang know that this thought would later save the Jiang family from a catastrophe. Shen Fei, through his relationship with Jiang Tiancheng, would ensure the Jiang family didn’t fall victim to malicious schemes.
Meanwhile, Jiang Tiancheng, too consumed by his frustrations, failed to grasp his grandfather’s intentions.
“Grandpa, you’re still defending that old man? Look at all the years he’s spent throwing your name around for connections. Doesn’t that bother you? If this keeps up, your lifelong reputation will eventually be ruined!”
“Watch your mouth! How dare you call your father an old man?” Jiang Anbang said, his voice stern. Then, calming himself, he added,
“What your father does isn’t entirely right, but he’s doing it for business—not for anything illegal. Although he’s far from perfect, he knows where to draw the line.”
“I’ve never wanted Jiang family descendants to exploit my name, but sometimes survival demands it! Just remember—don’t cross any lines. If anyone in this family does something illegal, I’ll be the first to turn them in!”
Hearing this, Jiang Tiancheng’s heart skipped a beat. His voice softened.
“Then why do you always scold that fool?”
“I’m not scolding—I’m just keeping him in line!” Jiang Anbang replied firmly.
He knew his son too well—give him too much freedom, and he’d lose his sense of direction.
“Enough with this old man—go find my granddaughter-in-law!” Jiang Anbang waved him off.
“Also, make sure to bring Shen Fei tomorrow!”
“Got it, Grandpa. Don’t worry!” Jiang Tiancheng said before quickly leaving to avoid further lectures.
—
Meanwhile.
Shen Fei drove his black G-Wagon, taking Han Xinyan and Shen Jiayue for a leisurely tour around the city. They even visited a night market and strolled through the snack streets.
Once they were satisfied, the little family of three finally drove home.
In the guest room, Shen Fei carefully laid the sleeping Shen Jiayue on the bed.
“What are you doing?” Han Xinyan asked suspiciously when she saw Shen Fei reaching out to her.
