by MarineTLChapter 381: A Unique Way of Blind Dating!
The usually calm Hu Yuantai was now completely flustered, which surprised Shen Fei a little.
However, soon Shen Fei’s mind was filled with confusion.
Jiang Tiancheng… wasn’t he on a blind date?
“What happened? What’s wrong with Tiancheng?” Shen Fei asked, clearly puzzled.
“He came for a blind date! He dragged me along with him! But now… I… Fei Ge, can you come over?” Hu Yuantai stammered.
“Alright, give me the address!” Shen Fei said.
“Jia Nan Good Voice! Fourth floor, SV room five!” Hu Yuantai replied.
“Got it! I’ll be there soon!” Shen Fei said.
After hanging up, Shen Fei, sitting in the car, was filled with great confusion.
One person was the grandson of the former city committee member, Jiang Anbang, and the boss of Chengyou Technology.
The other was the granddaughter of the city’s top official, a lawyer.
Both were respectable individuals, so how did their blind date end up in a KTV?
Moreover, judging by the situation, something seemed to have happened.
What the hell was going on?
About half an hour later, Shen Fei arrived at the Jia Nan Good Voice, as Hu Yuantai had mentioned.
Being the city’s only luxury high-end KTV, the entrance was naturally filled with luxury cars.
After parking, Shen Fei gave the room number, and two tall women in qipaos escorted him to the fourth floor.
In the elevator, Shen Fei didn’t glance sideways, naturally uninterested in other women!
Otherwise, the atmosphere in the elevator would have become extremely ambiguous.
When Shen Fei opened the door to the room, he froze upon seeing the scene inside.
Sitting in the room were three people he knew, along with a staff member from the KTV.
Jiang Tiancheng and a woman with a bun hairstyle were sitting on a sofa.
Hu Yuantai, frowning, was sitting a little further away on another sofa.
The staff member was half-kneeling on the floor, nervously holding a bottle opener.
After staring at Jiang Tiancheng and the bun-haired woman for a while, Shen Fei’s gaze shifted to the table ahead.
The table was covered with bottles of alcohol.
There were dozens of bottles of Royal Salute alone, and behind them were neatly arranged bottles of Erguotou, even with Maotai among them.
On the floor, there were empty beer bottles scattered around.
At a quick count, there were at least sixty bottles or more.
These two… are they this hardcore?
Hearing the noise at the door, the group immediately turned to look.
“Fei Ge!!!”
At that moment, Hu Yuantai, upon seeing Shen Fei, seemed to have seen a family member.
Jiang Tiancheng, on the other hand, was a bit dizzy.
Seeing the person at the door, he squinted slightly.
“Fei Ge? What is Fei Ge doing here?”
Shaking his head, Jiang Tiancheng finally recognized Shen Fei’s face and was quite surprised.
“Is it really Fei Ge?!”
When he recognized Shen Fei, Jiang Tiancheng quickly stood up, almost stumbling and falling.
“Fei Ge, you came! Hehe, come, let me introduce you!”
With that, Jiang Tiancheng, a bit tipsy, pointed to the bun-haired woman.
“Fei Ge, this is Liang Shuang, a partner at Yunhe Law Firm!”
The moment those words were said, Shen Fei froze.
Liang Shuang?
A partner at Yunhe Law Firm?
The name wasn’t unfamiliar to Shen Fei.
In his past life, this person was quite famous in the legal world, both domestically and internationally.
Numerous big and small cases were handled by Liang Shuang.
Her personal record had a 95% win rate.
In addition, Shen Fei remembered Yunhe Law Firm because, after establishing and expanding his own Xinyue Group, he had worked closely with the firm.
Also, when Tang Xingwen’s child chose law as a major in college, they interned at Yunhe Law Firm in their third year.
Later, Liang Shuang personally mentored this individual, and they quickly rose to a key position in the legal department of Xinyue Group.
Looking at it this way… encountering Liang Shuang now felt like too much of a coincidence.
Such a successful and outstanding independent woman was now Jiang Tiancheng’s blind date.
No wonder he found her a bit familiar.
“Mr. Shen? I’ve heard of your reputation for a long time. It’s truly a pleasure to meet you in person!” After Jiang Tiancheng finished introducing her, Liang Shuang stood up and politely extended her right hand.
In contrast to Jiang Tiancheng’s drunken state, Liang Shuang had no hint of inebriation on her face.
“Hello!”
Hiding his thoughts, Shen Fei politely shook her hand.
Then he raised an eyebrow and nodded toward Jiang Tiancheng.
“You two are on a blind date, and you’re doing this?”
Understanding what Shen Fei meant, Liang Shuang smiled helplessly and shrugged.
“Mr. Shen, don’t blame me! I told him I wouldn’t get drunk after a thousand drinks, but he insisted on challenging me! I couldn’t stop him no matter what!”
On the side, Hu Yuantai quickly said,
“Fei Ge, you have to stop Tiancheng! If he keeps drinking, his life might be at risk!”
Then he looked at Liang Shuang.
“As a lawyer, don’t you know this? If he really gets drunk and doesn’t see tomorrow’s sun, your future could be ruined because of him!”
However, Liang Shuang smiled slightly.
“That won’t happen! It’s just a few bottles of beer! If it really gets out of hand, I’ll stop him myself! The point is to make Jiang Tiancheng admit defeat! He always brags about how strong he is!”
At that moment, Jiang Tiancheng seemed to have cleared his head a little.
“Yuantai, why did you call Fei Ge here? This little thing, I can handle it myself!”
“Enough! Just admit you’re stuck!” Hu Yuantai snapped.
Unbeknownst to him, Jiang Tiancheng was unhappy hearing this.
“What’s that supposed to mean! Come on, let’s keep drinking!”
Hearing this, Liang Shuang spread her hands in defeat and said,
“Fine, Jiang Tiancheng, just admit you lost! The reason I say this is because I lack a certain enzyme in my body, you can’t outdrink me! But looking at you, you sure know how to show off!”
“Alright! You’ve had enough to drink today! How about we go to a place and get some hangover soup instead?”
Hearing Liang Shuang’s words, Jiang Tiancheng’s face turned a little embarrassed.
He then realized that compared to this woman, he truly couldn’t keep up.
Now that he had a way out, if he didn’t take it, he really would have no chance left!
After leaving the Jia Nan Good Voice, they drove to a nearby restaurant.
They ordered a few dishes and some porridge to help with the hangover and sat down at a place.
“Alright!”
Shen Fei smiled slightly, clearly amused.
“Your way of blind dating… hmm, it’s quite unique! But aren’t you afraid your grandfathers will go into a rage when they find out?”
—————- END —————-
Chapter 382: You’ve Successfully Caught My Attention!
“Mr. Shen, you’re exaggerating!”
Liang Shuang smiled faintly, running her disheveled hair back, and continued, “It’s not that serious! The whole blind date thing was just arranged by our two families without even consulting us. We couldn’t argue with the old folks, so we just met. But neither of us had any intention of dating, and it was awkward sitting together. While trying to make small talk, somehow we ended up talking about drinking. He claimed he could drink endlessly without getting drunk, and I said I didn’t believe it, so he insisted on taking me to this KTV to show me.”
At this point, Jiang Tiancheng, who had regained some clarity, covered his face with embarrassment. “Damn! I’m really embarrassing myself!”
Thinking back to everything that happened in the KTV room, he couldn’t help but cringe in awkwardness.
“Well, it’s not uncommon. I’ve seen many people act like they’re great drinkers in social situations. So, you’re not that unusual. I think you should thank Mr. Shen for that. Otherwise, I was planning to keep feeding you alcohol until you passed out. Then I could use that as an excuse to stop this blind date!” Liang Shuang said directly.
“Coincidentally, that’s what I was planning too!”
Jiang Tiancheng, realizing how Liang Shuang seemed to look down on him, suddenly became annoyed and, half-drunk, retorted back.
“Alright! Looks like we’re on the same page! If you want, I’ll drink water instead of alcohol! You can drink as much as you want!” Raising his water glass, Liang Shuang tilted it slightly toward Jiang Tiancheng, then took a sip with a smile.
However, Jiang Tiancheng didn’t react until Liang Shuang put her glass down, staring at her with a smirk on his face.
This left Liang Shuang puzzled. “Mr. Jiang, why are you staring at me?”
“Well, here’s the thing. I originally planned to let this blind date be a formality, but now I’ve changed my mind! Woman, you’ve successfully caught my attention!” Jiang Tiancheng said with a mischievous grin, his cheeks still flushed, indicating that he wasn’t fully sober.
“Mm?” Liang Shuang was taken aback, then chuckled helplessly, “Mr. Jiang, too bad for you, but you haven’t caught my attention at all! Besides, I’m not interested in dating right now.”
“That’s okay! Not interested now doesn’t mean you won’t be in the future!” Jiang Tiancheng smiled even more happily after being outright rejected.
Then his expression turned serious, and he cleared his throat.
“Well, you guys wait for the food, I’ll be right back. I need to go to the bathroom.”
“I’ll go with you, just in case you fall asleep in the bathroom. At least I can call you!” Hu Yuantai half-jokingly, half-seriously said.
But Jiang Tiancheng shot him a glare. “Sit down! I’m not drunk! I’m just going to wash my face and sober up!”
He patted Hu Yuantai’s shoulder and slowly got up.
Neither Shen Fei nor Liang Shuang intended to stop him. After all, Jiang Tiancheng looked completely sober after getting up, though his behavior was still erratic.
After Jiang Tiancheng left, Shen Fei suddenly smiled. “Lawyer Liang, after spending some time with Tiancheng, what do you think of him?”
“Mm? Mr. Jiang? So far, he seems like quite the outstanding person, but he loves to brag! However, I’m not interested in dating at the moment. My law firm, Yunhe, is still new, and as a partner, I need to focus on building it up. Right now, all my energy is going into the business side of things. To be honest, if it weren’t for the pressure from my grandfather, I would still be at the firm tonight, not here!”
Liang Shuang spoke candidly.
“I understand!” Shen Fei said calmly.
“I’m glad you understand, Mr. Shen.”
Liang Shuang paused before continuing, “The reason I’m here in Shenzhen is twofold: to discuss business, and to check if the environment here is suitable for Yunhe Law Firm to expand. If everything goes well, we might consider relocating the firm to Shenzhen. Meeting Mr. Jiang was just an additional thing.”
“Relocating Yunhe Law Firm to Shenzhen?”
Shen Fei acted surprised, then, seeing Liang Shuang nod, he smiled meaningfully. “If Lawyer Liang’s firm moves to Shenzhen, perhaps Xinyue Group could hire Yunhe as our legal department, or hire you as a special counsel for Xinyue Group!”
At this, Liang Shuang was stunned, her gaze filled with disbelief.
“Mr. Shen, I know your company is huge, but please don’t joke with me!” Liang Shuang chuckled awkwardly, clearly not believing what Shen Fei was suggesting.
Xinyue Group, though just starting to take off, was widely believed to be on its way to becoming a top enterprise in the country. The idea of them hiring her as their special lawyer seemed far-fetched to her, especially given that Yunhe Law Firm was still a relatively new firm.
“Lawyer Liang, do I look like I’m joking?” Shen Fei said seriously.
“Mr. Shen, with your position, I know you’re not joking, but it just sounds unbelievable to me!” Liang Shuang replied.
“I’m serious! If you’re willing, I’ll have someone draw up a contract right now to hire you as Xinyue Group’s special counsel! Xinyue Group currently owns Yuxin Series, Xinyue Technology, Xinyue Real Estate, and more, and we’ll continue to expand…” Shen Fei said, his tone resolute.
He was confident in Liang Shuang’s abilities and those of Yunhe Law Firm. After all, during his past business dealings with Yunhe and Liang Shuang, he had done his homework thoroughly.
Now that such an opportunity had presented itself, he wasn’t going to let it slip by.
As for everything else, he saw this as a chance for both sides, and didn’t mind using his advantage to help her firm grow.
“Mr. Fei, since you’ve said all this, then my company, Zhongtai Trading, and Tiancheng’s Chengyou Technology, will also cooperate with Yunhe Law Firm and Lawyer Liang!”
Hu Yuantai quickly added.
Even though he didn’t fully understand why Shen Fei was doing this, he could see the potential in this move.
Liang Shuang, still processing the conversation, was shocked by Hu Yuantai’s words. While Zhongtai Trading and Chengyou Technology were not as famous as Xinyue Group, having Yunhe Law Firm cooperate with them in Shenzhen would be a significant opportunity!
However…
“Mr. Shen, Mr. Hu, you don’t need to go this far just for Mr. Jiang! Besides, I’m not interested in him!” Liang Shuang said directly.
“Lawyer Liang, you’re misunderstanding! The reason I want to hire you and your firm is because you have the ability! I can provide a platform for rapid growth! If your firm doesn’t have the capacity, then we won’t continue the cooperation. So don’t think we’re doing this just because of Tiancheng… he’s nowhere near my level! Even if you and he don’t work out, I’ll still hire you based on your abilities!”
Shen Fei raised his eyebrow, teasing her.
This left Liang Shuang once again stunned.
Before she could ask her doubts, there was a sudden commotion from across the hall.
The group looked over and saw none other than Jiang Tiancheng standing there.
And the woman standing behind him… Shen Fei furrowed his brow. Something about her seemed familiar.
—————- END —————-
Chapter 383: Who Do You Think You Are?
“What the hell is going on with this kid?!”
The usually calm and composed Hu Yuantai couldn’t help but curse when he noticed the commotion nearby. He had only agreed to accompany Jiang Tiancheng—now look what trouble he had caused!
Seeing Jiang Tiancheng in trouble, Hu Yuantai, who was on good terms with him, immediately stood up and walked over without hesitation. Shen Fei and Liang Shuang, also surprised, stood up and followed him.
—
On the other side:
“Mister, you’ve offended Mr. David. Apologize immediately, or you’ll regret it!”
A man with a stout build, beer belly, and slicked-back hair, barked sternly. Behind him stood three foreigners with striking green eyes, laughing and chatting at their table, seemingly unbothered.
Meanwhile, Jiang Tiancheng and a woman were being scolded by the stout man. The woman panicked and bowed repeatedly, apologizing in distress.
“Why are you apologizing? It’s not your fault!” Jiang Tiancheng stopped her, visibly upset.
“It’s all my fault! You wouldn’t have gotten involved if it weren’t for me!” The woman sobbed, tears welling up as she looked at Jiang Tiancheng.
Seeing this, Jiang Tiancheng was taken aback. Anger filled his face as he glared at the stout man. He couldn’t stand seeing women cry, especially when the woman was clearly in the right.
“You did nothing wrong! That bastard took advantage of you—he should apologize! This is China! Stand tall and don’t let them push you around!”
At that moment, Shen Fei, Hu Yuantai, and Liang Shuang arrived. Shen Fei froze for a second when he saw the woman. No wonder she looked familiar—it was the same woman he had encountered back when he staged a scene at the Tiancheng Grand Hotel.
In his past life, this woman had tragically lost her life without even a proper burial. However, because of Shen Fei’s rebirth and the evidence he had provided about Tiancheng Grand Hotel, she had narrowly escaped death.
Yet, here they were again.
“Why is it you?” Shen Fei asked, surprised.
“Mr. Shen…” The woman’s face showed equal surprise. She quickly nodded nervously.
To her, Shen Fei had been a ray of light in her darkest times. At Tiancheng Grand Hotel, not only did he not mistreat her, but he had also spoken to her kindly. From that moment on, this refined and handsome man had been etched into her heart. After the hotel was shut down and she was saved, she knew it had been because of him.
Even though she thought she would never see him again, she had followed his news online. From the rise of his scar cream to the controversies and his major acquisitions, Shen Fei had become an unreachable figure. Grateful for his help, she became his silent supporter online, defending him from criticism.
But now, seeing him again in such a disheveled state, she felt even more flustered.
—
“Fei, you know her?” Liang Shuang asked.
“Yes, we’ve met once before,” Shen Fei replied casually, deliberately avoiding the specifics of their meeting. He quickly changed the topic. “What’s going on here?”
“Fei, this is what happened,” Jiang Tiancheng said angrily. “I came out after washing my face and saw this bastard touching her waist, rubbing his dirty hands all over her! I kicked him, but he acted like nothing happened, laughing and eating like we didn’t exist. Then this fat translator comes over and tells me to apologize! On top of that, those foreigners were saying disgusting things like how Chinese people are inherently cheap and that I need to bow and scrape for their forgiveness. Screw that!”
Having received an elite education, Jiang Tiancheng understood English and several other languages perfectly. After hearing the insults, he was determined to stand his ground.
Meanwhile, Liang Shuang quietly scanned the area and slipped toward the back of the Caesar Restaurant.
—
“Regardless of your excuses, Mr. David is upset. You must apologize!” the stout man declared sternly. “Let me remind you that Mr. David is here at the invitation of the Shenzhen city government. If you don’t stop your reckless behavior, you know what consequences will follow.”
“Hah! Apologize?” Jiang Tiancheng sneered. “That bastard molested her—I was just standing up for her. And now you want me to apologize because he’s here on some government invitation? Are you even Chinese? I understand professional ethics, but where’s your moral backbone? Just because they’re foreigners doesn’t mean they can do whatever they want here! You’re a loyal lapdog—but too bad you were born in the wrong era. You’d fit in perfectly a few hundred years ago.”
“You don’t need to insult people!” the stout man snapped, his face turning red.
—
Shen Fei, hearing the whole story, said nothing. He walked straight over to the foreigners’ table and kicked it hard, sending dishes clattering to the ground.
Before the foreigners could react, Shen Fei spoke coldly: “Apologize, or face the consequences.”
One of the foreigners glared at him angrily and shouted, “Who the hell do you think you are?”
“Who I am doesn’t matter. This is China, not a place where you can act lawlessly!” Shen Fei retorted firmly.
The three foreigners’ faces darkened, about to curse, when they were interrupted.
The restaurant manager arrived. After hearing the staff explain the situation, he rushed over, clearly nervous.
“Miss Huang, step back for now,” the manager instructed.
“She can’t leave! The victim must stay!” Jiang Tiancheng said sharply.
The manager looked over and froze when he recognized Jiang Tiancheng. “Mr. Jiang…?”
His heart sank. If this issue wasn’t handled carefully, tonight’s events could turn into a major incident.
“Your employee was harassed, and this is how you deal with it?” Jiang Tiancheng challenged, raising an eyebrow in disdain.
—————- END —————-
Chapter 384: Do You Accept Their Apology?
“Mr. Jiang, isn’t this… not such a big deal? Look, these are foreigners. If we involve the police, won’t it put our local police departments in an awkward position?” the manager said diplomatically, trying to smooth things over.
“Huh? Not a big deal? Are you even listening to yourself? Do you need something serious to happen before you take this seriously? Look at your age—you must have a teenage daughter at home. If she were harassed like this, could you stay calm and say it’s ‘no big deal’? Would you let her suffer in silence?” Jiang Tiancheng retorted angrily.
Why should foreigners be treated so leniently in China?
The manager, however, remained dismissive. It’s just a little harassment, right? he thought. Is it really worth all this fuss?
But with Jiang Tiancheng breathing down his neck, he dared not say so aloud.
“Mr. Jiang, how about this: we provide Ms. Huang Wei with some humanitarian compensation, and we let this matter slide. Does that work for you?” the manager pleaded submissively.
“What? Humanitarian compensation? Do you think using some fancy term makes it right? He touched her waist—that’s molestation here in China! Why should we let him off just because he’s a foreigner? Because he’s a foreign investor? Bullshit! They dare act so recklessly because of weaklings like you who worship everything foreign!” Jiang Tiancheng spat furiously, casting a cold glance around the restaurant.
“Fine. Caesar Hotel, where a single dish costs hundreds, and this is the spineless manager they hire?”
“Mr. Jiang…” The manager was helpless and shifted his gaze toward Huang Wei. “Mr. Jiang, arguing won’t help. Let’s see what Ms. Huang Wei has to say.”
All eyes turned to Huang Wei.
Had it been someone else rescuing her today, her timid personality might have led her to accept an apology and downplay the incident. After all, her traumatic experiences at the Tiancheng Grand Hotel had left her feeling unworthy and fearful. Compared to that, this seemed trivial.
But Shen Fei was here.
Biting her lip, Huang Wei gathered her courage and said firmly, “Whatever Mr. Shen decides, I’ll go along with it!”
Mr. Shen?
The manager’s gaze shifted to the side, where Shen Fei stood. Recognizing him, the manager froze.
What’s going on tonight?
First, there was Jiang Tiancheng, grandson of the former city leader, and now Shen Fei—the rising business star rumored to be collaborating with Qiankun Real Estate.
“Mr. Shen!” the manager stammered nervously.
Dealing with Jiang Tiancheng had already been a nightmare. Now, with Shen Fei involved, things could spiral out of control. With their connections, these two could easily escalate the situation, and the consequences for the foreigners—and the hotel—could be severe.
“I think Tiancheng is right,” Shen Fei said calmly, far less emotional than Jiang Tiancheng. Glancing toward Liang Shuang, who had just returned, Shen Fei turned to Huang Wei.
“What do you want to do about this? Do you want an apology, or should we call the police and have them arrested? Don’t worry—no one will threaten you while I’m here.”
Shen Fei’s gaze briefly lingered on the manager, his meaning clear.
“I…” Huang Wei hesitated. But hearing Shen Fei say, I’m here, she straightened up and declared, “I don’t accept their apology!”
“Alright. Then we won’t accept their apology,” Shen Fei said with a smirk.
Once Liang Shuang reached his side, Shen Fei asked quietly, “Did you get the surveillance footage?”
“Huh? Mr. Shen, how did you know?” Liang Shuang asked, surprised.
“If you couldn’t think of that much, I’d have to reconsider our partnership,” Shen Fei said with a faint smile.
Liang Shuang pouted. “Enough teasing. I checked the footage—everything is clearly recorded. If this girl doesn’t accept their apology, those foreigners will definitely be detained. But since they’re foreigners, it could get tricky.”
“But we have a solution. If they insist on being stubborn, we’ll post the footage online. With the current climate, netizens won’t let them off the hook.”
Hearing this, the stout translator turned pale. He hurriedly translated the exchange for the foreigners, and their previously smug faces turned to panic.
At Shen Fei’s signal, Hu Yuantai took out his phone and began making a call.
The translator wiped his sweaty forehead with a napkin and said anxiously, “Miss Huang, Mr. David deeply regrets his actions and sincerely wants to apologize. To express his remorse, he’s willing to compensate you with 5,000 US dollars. Would that satisfy you?”
His earlier arrogance had completely disappeared.
Jiang Tiancheng sneered. “Oh, so now they’re sorry? Didn’t you say the consequences would be serious? What happened to all that bravado? You’re backing down now?”
Turning to Huang Wei, he asked, “Do you accept their apology?”
“No, I don’t!” Huang Wei declared firmly, clenching her teeth.
She knew she needed money—her life hadn’t been easy—but she didn’t want Shen Fei to look down on her. More importantly, as a Chinese citizen, she couldn’t let these foreigners act so arrogantly in her own country.
Hearing her response, the manager shot her a glare, as if cursing her for being uncooperative.
The three foreigners, even without understanding Chinese, could guess her answer. Panic spread across their faces as they resorted to their final weapon: money.
“Miss Huang, Mr. David is now offering you $20,000. Please accept it!” the translator pleaded almost desperately.
Twenty thousand dollars—just for touching her waist!
To many people, it was like stumbling upon free money. But Huang Wei remained unmoved.
She needed money, but not like this.
Despite everything she had suffered, she couldn’t let herself accept it. Most importantly, she didn’t want to disappoint Shen Fei—her benefactor, who already knew about her shameful past.
—————- END —————-
Chapter 385: This Time, You’ll Be Disappointed!
“Miss Huang, what do we have to do for you to forgive us?”
Seeing Huang Wei reject the $20,000 compensation, the chubby man nearly lost his composure.
Twenty thousand dollars—that’s over 100,000 yuan!
For an average worker earning a few thousand yuan a month, it would take years to save that much.
After blaming Huang Wei, the chubby man began resenting his employer, David. If he wanted women, couldn’t he just visit a massage parlor after dinner? There are plenty of options there! But no, he had to lose control and touch a waitress’s waist—in full view, no less! What was he thinking?
However, the man forgot that such incidents often went unpunished in China because locals typically chose to settle quietly with a small payout. That leniency emboldened these foreigners to act recklessly.
This time, though, they had run into someone who wouldn’t back down. If Jiang Tiancheng hadn’t stepped in, Huang Wei might have had no choice but to swallow her grievance.
“Forgive them? Tell your masters they’re dreaming! Unless they spend a few days in detention, forget it!” Jiang Tiancheng snapped.
“Mr. Jiang, isn’t that just a waste of everyone’s time? Besides, Mr. David simply forgot he was in China and acted under the influence of more open-minded foreign customs. He realizes his mistake now and is willing to compensate Miss Huang. Isn’t paying her better than having him sit in detention for days?” the chubby man argued with a forced smile.
“Open-minded foreign customs?” Jiang Tiancheng sneered, raising an eyebrow. “Do I look stupid to you? Open-minded or not, you don’t touch a woman without consent. Tell me, do you have a girlfriend? Why don’t we bring her here and let these three men grope her? I’ll pay you 600,000 yuan for it—fair deal, right? That’s just our national culture, would you accept it?”
The chubby man’s face turned pale.
David, who didn’t understand Jiang Tiancheng’s words but sensed his translator’s silence, realized he was dealing with tough opponents.
He pushed the chubby man aside, stepped forward, and said in broken Chinese, “Sorry!”
But his gaze lingered on Shen Fei.
The woman seemed to defer to this man with every answer, clearly awaiting his approval.
“Sir, I think it’s time to put this matter to rest. I was invited by Shenzhen’s municipal government to assess opportunities for cooperation here. If this escalates, it will negatively impact my impression of China—especially Shenzhen. You might also face unnecessary trouble. Yes, I was wrong, but please, don’t overdo it. If $20,000 isn’t enough, I can offer more. Besides, even if you call the police, they won’t want to handle this mess.” David spoke in English, addressing Shen Fei directly.
Shen Fei, however, chuckled coldly.
“Sir, if you knew this would happen, why act recklessly in the first place? China is not a place for you to run wild. We’ve already refused your apology. You should understand that today’s China is no longer something you can trifle with. You think the police might let you go because of international factors, which is why you’re so arrogant, right? Unfortunately for you—this time, you’ll be disappointed.”
His fluent American-accented English surprised Liang Shuang, who glanced at Shen Fei curiously.
Such perfect pronunciation—far better than most English majors. Clearly, this man has spent significant time interacting with foreigners. He’s far more complex than the rumors about him being just a nouveau riche businessman.
“Aren’t you afraid this will cause trouble for you?” David asked, clearly startled by Shen Fei’s calm demeanor.
“No. In China, if you do something wrong, you face the consequences,” Shen Fei replied firmly.
“Fk! You’re impossible!” David snarled, his face twisting with anger. He motioned to his group, preparing to leave.
“Leave if you want, but the surveillance footage clearly recorded your actions. You can talk all you want about open-minded customs—I’ll just let the whole world see what kind of person you are. I’ll post it online, on Chinese and international platforms like Twitter. Or, there’s a simpler option: let Shenzhen’s police detain you for half a month. That way, you’ll learn that China is not to be messed with.” Shen Fei smirked, arms crossed as he blocked their exit.
“Shit! You’re asking for it!”
David and his companions froze mid-step, their anger boiling over as they clenched their fists and turned to glare at Shen Fei.
“Mr. David, are you planning to get physical?” Liang Shuang interjected. “Perfect! I’m a lawyer, and I could use a case to work on. Your behavior has already violated Chinese law. If Mr. Shen doesn’t accept your apology, your charges will escalate, and you’ll face up to three years in prison.”
She spread her hands nonchalantly.
“Of course, you can ask your embassy for help, but with this surveillance footage, we’ll make sure you don’t get off lightly. Public opinion is on our side.”
Hearing this, David’s anger gave way to helplessness. He glared at Shen Fei but had no response.
Before he could speak again, a group of police officers arrived, summoned earlier by Hu Yuantai.
The officers frowned upon hearing what had happened.
“Mr. Jiang, Mr. Shen, Mr. Hu—what’s going on here?” the lead officer asked cautiously.
“This arrogant foreigner harassed this girl. I stepped in to stop him—no need to thank me for that! But this is Chinese territory. I expect foreigners who disrespect China and its laws to face appropriate punishment,” Jiang Tiancheng said firmly.
