Reborn-After-C63
by MarineTLChapter 63: Are You a Pig?
When Jiang Anbang saw Wu Hongyi, the director of the Supervisory Office, he felt a sharp prickling sensation, as if a needle had just been stuck into his back.
Only moments ago, he had been resolutely claiming that he had little to no contact with the Supervisory Office. But now, the director had arrived at his doorstep.
All the noble-sounding words he had just spoken turned into lies that had been exposed.
Taking a few deep breaths, Jiang Anbang finally managed to calm himself. He thought to himself, “Maybe Shen Fei doesn’t recognize the director of the Supervisory Office.”
“Old Master, there’s a guest?” When Wu Hongyi saw the young man beside Jiang Anbang, he was momentarily taken aback.
Considering Jiang Anbang’s status, even middle-aged wealthy businessmen might not get the chance to have tea with him. But this young man could!
This caused Wu Hongyi to take a moment to observe Shen Fei more closely.
“This is my foolish grandson Tiancheng’s friend. We’ve just been chatting for a while,” Jiang Anbang said with a wave of his hand.
“Shen Fei, I’ll have someone send you back now. We’ll catch up another day!” He stood up, preparing to make a call to arrange for Shen Fei’s departure.
But Shen Fei quickly waved his hand. “Old Master, I can take a cab myself. You have your business to attend to!”
As he spoke, Shen Fei stood up and began walking toward the door with the butler leading the way.
Wu Hongyi, standing to the side, sharply observed Shen Fei as he spoke. His hearing was extremely sensitive, and the young man’s voice seemed incredibly familiar.
After thinking for a moment, Wu Hongyi realized the voice reminded him of the man who had called him that night, instructing him to look for documents in the trash. Could it be…?
Watching Shen Fei leave, Wu Hongyi stood frozen, unable to snap out of his thoughts.
Seeing Wu Hongyi like this, Jiang Anbang couldn’t help but ask, “Do you know him?”
The moment the words left his mouth, even Jiang Anbang himself felt how improbable it sounded. But if Wu Hongyi knew Shen Fei, how could he not have mentioned it earlier?
Wu Hongyi snapped out of his thoughts and quickly responded, “No! I just thought his voice sounded familiar.”
“What do you mean by familiar?” Jiang Anbang asked, surprised.
When he had worked in the grassroots of the Shenzhen market, he had known the young Wu Hongyi, who was working in a similar capacity back then. Their paths had crossed when they were handling a case against organized crime, and even then, Wu Hongyi had been so sharp and perceptive that it had seemed a waste for him to be stationed in a small county.
Not only did he possess a clear sense of logic and a serious work ethic, but his ability to remember voices was uncanny. He could recognize any sound he’d heard, even if it was just once.
So, if Wu Hongyi said Shen Fei’s voice was familiar, it must mean that they had met before.
But, as far as Jiang Anbang knew, Shen Fei had no apparent reason to come into contact with Wu Hongyi.
Unable to make sense of it, Jiang Anbang asked, “Old Master, do you remember that I once mentioned someone who had provided me with many key pieces of evidence about Tian Sheng Hotel?”
“…Could it be him?” Jiang Anbang asked, in disbelief.
Looking at the empty door, he felt an overwhelming shock.
“I’m not sure, but it looks about 70-80% like him,” Wu Hongyi replied.
However, in his heart, the waves were already surging.
Jiang Anbang, who had partnered with Wu Hongyi in the past, knew that when Wu Hongyi said “70-80%”, it usually meant a 100% certainty.
A complicated feeling surged in his chest, as this seemed to confirm that Shen Fei wasn’t making a spur-of-the-moment decision to short-sell the Kong Group, but had some real, solid evidence to back him up.
If the person who had given Wu Hongyi the tip-off was Shen Fei, then it made sense. But could someone who only knew about Tian Sheng Hotel’s shady dealings possibly connect all the dots and uncover all the evidence? How could that be?
Jiang Anbang was deeply confused.
“Old Master, do you have an idea?” Wu Hongyi, noticing Jiang Anbang’s strange behavior, asked with growing curiosity.
Jiang Anbang shook his head, “No, but I just don’t believe it. After all, he used to be a gambling addict, and only turned his life around recently. How could he be the one?”
After much thought, Jiang Anbang decided not to share his suspicions about Shen Fei with Wu Hongyi. He knew that once official investigations were started, they would inevitably lead to Shen Fei’s involvement.
Although Shen Fei had provided key information for the current investigation, once he became a subject of inquiry, the legal procedures would need to be followed.
Therefore, Jiang Anbang chose to protect Shen Fei for now.
But in his heart, he harbored many doubts about Shen Fei. He was sure that Shen Fei was not as simple as he appeared. That “gambler” persona was likely just a cover.
At the same time, Shen Fei had no idea that his brief conversation had caused Wu Hongyi’s suspicion and led Jiang Anbang to spend much time pondering over him.
However, this could not be blamed on Shen Fei. After all, he had only heard of Wu Hongyi by name and had no idea about the director’s remarkable ability to recognize voices.
“Old Master, let’s not dwell on this for now.”
Since he couldn’t figure it out, Wu Hongyi decided to change the subject, “The most important thing now is the Supervisory Office’s actions. Only by dismantling those criminal forces can the Shenzhen market have a brighter future.”
“Does that mean…?” Jiang Anbang asked, his voice trembling.
Wu Hongyi nodded firmly, “Yes, it’s happening soon! In the past few days, our people have been acting on the information provided and have conducted covert investigations and records on all the suspicious activities at Tian Sheng Hotel.”
“This includes evidence of Long Da’s involvement in protecting Tian Sheng Hotel, as well as the criminal deeds of the Kong Group and Fang Shengnian. We are now ready to strike!”
As Wu Hongyi spoke, his gaze grew sharper.
“Old Master, I’m here to discuss the final preparations for this operation! To prevent raising suspicion, everything must remain covert, so I need your help to come up with a way to ensure no one gets tipped off. You’ve been in Shenzhen for many years and must know who is trustworthy and who isn’t.”
“This is a serious matter. We cannot afford to make any mistakes.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Anbang nodded seriously, “Let’s go to my study.”
Meanwhile, at another wealthy villa in Shenzhen, Kong Family’s eldest son, Kong Fuwen, rubbed his disheveled hair as he came downstairs.
When he saw someone sitting in the corner of the sofa, he was momentarily puzzled.
“Old Kong, why are you still at home at this hour?”
His father, Kong Lianshun, looked very serious when he saw Kong Fuwen.
“Are you a pig? How many times did I call you? You’re only waking up now!”
