Chapter 140: The Crazier, the Calmer

After shooting all the bamboo arrows in the pouch, Li Xuemei slowly lowered her hand.

She walked to Yan Lao’er’s side, resting one hand on Sanbao and exhaling a breath.

A wave of overwhelming fear surged over her.

The valiant and heroic female killing god trembled slightly.

In a soft voice, she said, “Husband, my leg cramped.”

Yan Lao’er immediately said, “Sanbao, quick, lie down.”

Just moments ago, Sanbao had performed the feat of kicking away arrows with his hooves. Now, he obediently bent his knees.

Yan Lao’er gently helped his wife onto the ox’s back, letting her sit sideways.

“Wife, you rub it yourself for now. Later, I’ll give you the full treatment!”

He took the bamboo crossbow from her hand, which had been clenched so tightly that red marks were left behind, and gently comforted her.

“It’s fine, wife. Just sit in the rear and watch me slaughter them all.

I don’t usually shoot arrows, but when I do, even I get scared!

Cool is just one word, but I’ve got four! Our daughter said them once, and I remembered them right away!

You should remember them too, and praise me like this from now on.”

Li Xuemei quietly watched his antics.

She played along and asked, “Which four words?”

Yan Lao’er patted Sanbao and said, “Sanbao, take Princess Iron Fan to the back to rest.”

He took a deep breath, held his crossbow across his chest, and left behind a dashing silhouette as he murmured,

“I—Ox Demon King—so cool it splits the sky!”

Sanbao gave a low moo and carried Li Xuemei away.

Qi Da, Qi Si, and Qi Wu saw him approach and quickly ran over.

Qi Da anxiously said, “Yan Er, don’t come over.”

“Qi Da-ge, I can handle it!”

His sharp eyes spotted the bodies that Old Yan had shot down—more importantly, the ten iron arrows among them.

He quickly jogged over to retrieve them, only to realize it was harder than expected.

The terrifyingly dead corpses aside, the iron arrows that had pierced straight through their bones were nearly impossible to pull out without serious strength!

Qi Si understood his intention and strode forward—puff!

An iron arrow was smoothly pulled free.

Qi Wu caught on, found another arrow, and—puff!

The two of them were splattered with blood.

One by one, the iron arrows returned to Yan Lao’er’s hands.

He wanted to send them to Old Yan, but when he turned his head—good heavens.

Yan Huaiwen had flipped onto his horse with incredibly crisp and clean movements!

Using the iron crossbow as leverage, he ruthlessly stabbed at the other horses.

The injured horses, in pain, ran wildly in all directions.

His remaining few arrows were all shot at the horses—his intention was clear: he would not let these people escape!

Yan Lao’er wasn’t much of a fighter, but his mouth sure was!

With his booming voice, he shouted again, “Kill the horses! Kill the horses! Quickly, kill the horses!”

He tried to rush over but was stopped by Qi Da.

Qi Da took the arrows and charged forward, wielding a wooden plank like a fly swatter to smash enemies aside.

The iron arrows were delivered to the scholar.

Yan Huaiwen swiftly nocked them—whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

    Every shot hit its mark!

At this point, the enemies finally started to feel real fear.

Though their attacks seemed playful—hitting and retreating, then switching attackers—there were sharpshooters assisting from the back, instantly shifting the tide of battle!

Not to mention, there were three unusually large warriors with terrifying strength. Anyone who clashed with them ended up with dislocated arms, forced to fight with their off-hand, drastically weakening their combat ability.

While Yan Lao’er was busy darting around the battlefield collecting arrows and screeching,

Yan Yu had been calmly observing the entire fight.

When her father was nearly struck earlier, it didn’t just send Li Xuemei into a frenzy—it pushed Yan Yu into utter madness.

Everyone expresses their madness differently. Yan Yu’s was a rare kind: the crazier she got, the calmer she became.

The stronger her killing intent grew, the more she had to hold it back, suppress it, and restrain it.

She waited for the right moment—to unleash a massive attack!

“They’re trying to escape,” Yan Yu’s tender face and steady voice formed a stark contrast.

For some reason, when the other children looked at Yan Xiao’er like this, they felt as if a fire had ignited in their hearts, burning stronger and stronger.

“One to four, flank from the left.”

“Five to ten, go around from the right.”

“The rest, follow me in a wide arc to cut off their retreat.”

“If you don’t dare to kill, shoot their legs. If you can’t hit people, shoot the horses. Whether it’s a person or a horse—don’t hold back.”

“Show mercy to the enemy, and they won’t spare us.”

“Horses that aren’t killed will run wild—one stray hoof could crush us.”

    “Follow my command—attack!”

    The children sprang into action.

They were small, and as they ran on both sides, even if the enemies noticed them, they were blocked by the adults and couldn’t reach them.

They quickly arrived at the positions designated by Yan Xiao’er.

Pairs of excited little eyes locked onto the enemy leaders who had just run into the trap.

Yan Yu stood still, both hands like two flags.

She pointed straight at two targets.

    “Ready—fire!”

The children’s army made its first official attack—and stunned the battlefield.

Their positioning was perfect, cutting off the enemy’s retreat.

The escaping men had no cover between them and the children.

    The concentrated firepower was devastating.

Two of them, caught off guard, were turned into pincushions, struggling for a few steps before collapsing with a boom.

Yan Yu didn’t give the children any time to react.

Standing as firm as a tree, her crisp voice rang out again:

    “Ready—”

The children’s eyes followed the direction of her hands, locking onto their next targets.

    “Fire!”

    “Fire!”

    “Fire!”

All enemies charging at her were shot down one by one.

    Her face showed no fear.

Her fury had transformed into fuel, pushing her mind to operate at full speed.

If one had to describe Yan Yu’s current state in simple terms—

It was as if she was playing Whack-a-Mole.

Whenever an enemy popped up, her hands pointed straight at them.

The children’s army blocked the escape route.

The remaining enemies, still tangled in the fight, were now heavily targeted by the three elite sharpshooters.

The others soon realized—it was pointless to charge in swinging wooden planks. Many attacks were dodged or blocked.

They were too close, interfering with the archers.

Yan Yu was the first to notice this flaw.

While maintaining her focus, she shouted, “Adults over there, just surround them! If they try to escape, jab them hard with sticks—don’t let them get close! Uncle Hu, Uncle Hu Er, get to higher ground and shoot!”

    Yan Lao’er smacked his forehead.

“Quick, someone make a human ladder! Get Hu Da and Hu Er up higher!”

Qi Si and Qi Wu didn’t even bother calling for help.

They crouched down and said, “Quick, climb on!”

Hu Da and Hu Er were overwhelmed.

It had been years since they’d sat on someone’s shoulders…

But knowing the urgency, they gritted their teeth and climbed up.

Qi Si and Qi Wu held steady.

The Qi brothers were already tall and burly. Sitting on their shoulders, Hu Da and Hu Er suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of confidence—like they could shoot down all the “little guys” below them!

The final elite archer, Yan Huaiwen, continued his impeccable performance.

Meanwhile, Liang Manshan had gone from shock—to admiration—to reverence—finally reaching a state of utter devotion…

This Liang scholar was clearly a passionate man—easily swept up in the moment!
