Reborn-After-C110
by MarineTLChapter 110: The More We Talk, the More Absurd It Gets!
At the Shenzhen City Police Department.
In the interrogation room.
A bright incandescent light made it hard for Shen Fei to open his eyes.
“Mr. Shen, what kind of money-making scheme have you found in the past month or two? You were borrowing from loan sharks and mingling in casinos before, but now you’ve turned things around. You’ve got a luxury car and can even spend at the Junyue Pavilion! Even those second-generation rich people are treating you with respect! Tell me, what kind of luck did you step in?”
The person speaking was the captain of the police team.
He looked Shen Fei up and down with a mocking expression.
“Captain Zhong, can I interpret what you’re saying as you being jealous of me?” Shen Fei replied calmly, giving a faint smile.
This response was completely different from the image that Captain Zhong had expected—a hopeless gambler—and it made him raise his eyebrows in surprise.
“Mr. Shen, how did you know my name?” Captain Zhong asked with a playful tone, his earlier surprise shifting into curiosity.
Shen Fei leaned back in the chair, resting his hands behind his head comfortably, and said, “Captain Zhong is a well-known figure. How could anyone in Shenzhen not recognize you?”
Actually, when Shen Fei saw Captain Zhong for the first time, he was a bit surprised. Captain Zhong was well-liked by the people in Shenzhen.
Even though Shen Fei had been called in for questioning, he never expected someone as important as Captain Zhong would personally handle his interrogation.
At that moment, news reports from Shen Fei’s previous life about Captain Zhong flashed in his mind. Soon, Captain Zhong would be involved in a mission to capture a fugitive.
The fugitive had escaped from prison and, desperate, began taking hostages. In the end, during negotiations with the police commissioner, he left only one pregnant woman alive.
Due to the urgency of the situation, Captain Zhong didn’t wear his bulletproof vest.
Just as the rescue was about to succeed, the fugitive suddenly went mad. Faced with the dire situation, Captain Zhong had to take a risk.
In the end, the hostages were saved, but Captain Zhong lost his life in the process. His life was forever frozen at the age of 35.
After the incident, countless people spontaneously came to pay their respects at the scene, and everywhere on social media, people mourned for Captain Zhong.
Because of this, Shen Fei recognized Captain Zhong as soon as he saw him this time.
Hearing Shen Fei’s explanation, Captain Zhong’s doubts were greatly reduced.
Upon thinking about it, it wasn’t so surprising. A gambler like Shen Fei had definitely been in detention before, so it made sense that they would know each other.
“Alright, Mr. Shen. Let’s cut to the chase! The reason we invited you here for a chat is to talk about what happened last night.”
Not bothering to further investigate Shen Fei’s recent changes, Captain Zhong became serious and began the interrogation.
“Last night, Mr. Shen, you stayed in the hall on the fifth floor of Junyue Pavilion for a few hours, right?”
“Yes! Mainly because there was a soccer match. But as soon as the match was over, I left.” Shen Fei said softly.
“You must already know what happened in that hall last night, right?” Captain Zhong said.
“Yes! I heard your people talking about it,” Shen Fei replied.
“Mr. Shen, when you were in that hall, didn’t you notice anything?” Captain Zhong’s eyes suddenly became sharp as he began to scrutinize Shen Fei.
Shen Fei frowned slightly, as if trying to recall what happened the previous night. Then he shook his head. “What could I have noticed? Captain Zhong, you’re overestimating me.”
“Heh, Mr. Shen, you’re too modest! I heard that last night, Jia Tong spat on you. That was a very provocative action. How come you didn’t get angry?” Captain Zhong suddenly changed his tone and smiled.
“Captain Zhong, haven’t you ever heard the saying, ‘If a dog bites you, should you bite it back?'” Shen Fei casually glanced at Captain Zhong, then sharply added, “Captain Zhong, are you implying that because of that spit, I hired someone to kill Jia Tong?”
“Mr. Shen, I didn’t mean that! It’s just that the people at the scene said you mentioned that Jia Tong had a dark cloud over his head and that something bad would happen to him, so I just asked.” Captain Zhong said, looking at Shen Fei with an almost amused expression.
“Because I know the I Ching and have a very accurate sixth sense,” Shen Fei responded mysteriously.
I Ching? Sixth sense?
The more Shen Fei talked, the more absurd it sounded!
And from what he was saying, he had predicted that Jia Tong would have something bad happen to him?
This was just ridiculous!
“Mr. Shen, I think you’ve got the wrong person. I don’t believe in ghosts or gods. This kind of explanation won’t fool me,” Captain Zhong smiled slightly, clearly not buying Shen Fei’s story.
“Captain Zhong, whether you believe it or not is up to you. I’m just telling you my thoughts. The only interaction I had with Jia Tong was at the soccer match. After the match ended, I went straight home. As for hiring someone to kill him, ha, Jia Tong isn’t worth me doing that.” Shen Fei said.
Captain Zhong was confused, sensing something was off, but unable to pinpoint exactly what it was.
In his frustration, Captain Zhong asked a question that even he thought was silly.
“Since you predicted that Jia Tong would have something happen to him, why didn’t you warn him?”
Shen Fei gave Captain Zhong an amused glance and replied, “Captain Zhong, you heard what Jia Tong did to me, right? He spat on me, which means he and I weren’t on good terms. If I had approached him and said something, wouldn’t that have just made him target me even more? If something happened, I’d be in trouble. If nothing happened, I’d have even bigger trouble! What do you think I was trying to gain?”
Captain Zhong nodded repeatedly. He had met Jia Tong a few times before and knew he was an outright lunatic.
The two were already on bad terms, and if Shen Fei had warned him, he definitely would have caused himself trouble.
For a moment, the interrogation room fell silent.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open.
“Captain Zhong, Jiang Tiancheng, Hu Yuan Tai, Duan Guxiang, Jin Liyao, and Zhou Zhengji are all here! They said they’re with Shen Fei! They’re witnesses!”
Captain Zhong’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Mr. Shen, you really are something! You’ve managed to get the grandson of the old mayor, the CEO of Zhongtai Commerce, and the sons of two other high-ranking officials to show up! You sure have quite the connections!”
Captain Zhong had thought Shen Fei was just ingratiating himself with people like Jiang Tiancheng, but now he realized that the relationship was more complicated than he had imagined.
It now seemed that these second-generation rich people were the ones trying to maintain and court favor with Shen Fei.
Thinking about it, Captain Zhong now saw a possible reason for their arrival.
With a half-squint, Captain Zhong turned his gaze back to Shen Fei, his eyes full of new thoughts.
But he quickly withdrew his gaze and motioned, “Since they’re here, bring them in.”
As soon as his words were finished, the group of second-generation rich people appeared at the door of the interrogation room in perfect unison.
