by MarineTLChapter 89: Unfortunately, You Chose Business!
At this moment, Shen Fei and his family of three were having a great time at the amusement park.
Before long, the evening arrived.
By the time he brought Han Xinyan and Shen Jiayue back home, the little girl was already asleep.
“Xinyan, I need to head out for a bit,” Shen Fei said.
“Where are you going?” Han Xinyan asked while settling Shen Jiayue into the guest room.
“Old Master Jiang Anbang invited me over to the Jiang family home for dinner,” Shen Fei explained.
“Jiang Anbang? Why would he invite you?”
Han Xinyan was stunned.
She had often seen Jiang Anbang on TV as a child and knew a bit about him. Jiang Anbang was well-respected, but she couldn’t understand why he would invite Shen Fei to dinner.
“Well, remember that jade pendant I picked up for a bargain a while ago? That was for Jiang Tiancheng to give to his grandfather. I guess it’s related to that,” Shen Fei said calmly, completely unfazed.
“Then go ahead! Knowing Jiang Tiancheng is one thing, but getting to know Old Master Jiang is on another level entirely! If you can earn his favor, it’ll really help you expand your connections in the future!”
Han Xinyan spoke excitedly.
“But listen, when you’re in front of Old Master Jiang, don’t use any of your usual tricks from drinking tables or gambling circles. Those things won’t impress him! Think before you speak, alright?”
Shen Fei smiled and nodded, “I understand!”
“Alright, hurry up! Don’t be late!” Han Xinyan urged gently.
Shen Fei nodded, then left.
—
At the Jiang family residence.
Under the same flower-covered pavilion as before, Jiang Anbang sat leisurely, reading his newspaper.
“Old Ding, did you call Shengcai yet?” he suddenly asked the elderly man beside him.
“Master, I’ve already informed Shengcai,” Old Ding replied.
Just then, Jiang Tiancheng walked over.
“Grandpa, it doesn’t matter if he comes tonight or not! Why did you ask Uncle Ding to call him? Wasting phone credit!” Jiang Tiancheng grumbled.
“Brat, no matter what you think of him, you still have to call him ‘Dad.’ Show some respect!”
Jiang Anbang lightly tapped Jiang Tiancheng’s head. Though his actions looked stern, they weren’t forceful.
“I’d rather die than call him ‘Dad’!” Jiang Tiancheng muttered defiantly.
Hearing this, Jiang Anbang could only shake his head helplessly.
Before long, the sound of a car engine came from outside.
“Master, Tiancheng!”
Shen Fei appeared in front of them, carrying several boxes of dairy products.
“Shen boy, you didn’t need to bring gifts!” Jiang Anbang said with a laugh.
“Fei-ge!” Jiang Tiancheng greeted him with a smile.
“I’m here to mooch a meal, so of course, I need to bring some ‘meal money!’ Older folks should drink more milk to strengthen their bones,” Shen Fei explained.
“Good! Good! Good!”
Jiang Anbang was very pleased and nodded approvingly.
Despite being in his sixties, his energy levels were vibrant, far from that of a typical elderly man.
Seeing Jiang Anbang like this, Shen Fei felt a pang of sadness.
Logically, in his previous life, Jiang Anbang’s health should still have been good at this time.
So how could one incident have caused him so much distress that he passed away?
Shen Fei knew that Jiang Anbang would have seen through the scheme that framed Jiang Tiancheng. The real trigger for Jiang Anbang’s collapse was Jiang Shengcai’s business scandals—several shoddy construction projects and fatal accidents at new work sites.
These blows proved too much for Jiang Anbang to bear.
Even worse, Jiang Anbang hadn’t even seen his son one last time before passing away.
But things were different in this life. Shen Fei had built a good relationship with Jiang Tiancheng, and he respected Jiang Anbang for his honorable character.
Shen Fei was determined to save the Jiang family this time.
“Tiancheng, Shen boy, let’s go inside!”
The dinner table was already set with a few simple home-cooked dishes.
“Shen boy, I’m afraid I didn’t prepare anything fancy for dinner. I hope you don’t mind!” Jiang Anbang said cheerfully.
“Old Master, you’re being too formal! Just being able to sit and eat with you makes me happy—even if it’s just plain rice!” Shen Fei said, finally showing some flattery.
“Shen boy, don’t say that! You’re making me sound way too important. I’m just an old man, nothing more!” Jiang Anbang chuckled, waving his hand.
“Alright, let’s eat first. The food will get cold otherwise! As for Tiancheng’s father, let’s just ignore him for now,” Jiang Anbang joked, changing the subject.
They ate for a while before Jiang Anbang asked curiously, “Shen Fei, I heard from Tiancheng that after shorting Kongshi Group, you invested all your money into Li Family Village? That place is remote and underdeveloped. Why would you do that?”
“I heard that Qiankun Group plans to build a soccer stadium there. Considering Qiankun Group’s style, I figured that once they start a project, they’ll have even bigger plans down the line. So, I thought it would be worth acquiring Li Family Village,” Shen Fei said, offering the explanation he had prepared earlier.
“You just heard about it, and you dared to make such a bold move?” Jiang Anbang asked curiously.
“Yes. But this rumor seemed more reliable than most! Given Qiankun Group’s track record, this seemed very plausible.”
“Plus, Qiankun Group’s chairman, Qian Dasheng, is famous for his investment success. He rarely loses a bet, so I was willing to take a gamble!”
Shen Fei finished his explanation, though he felt a little unsure about whether Jiang Anbang would buy it.
Sure enough, Jiang Anbang gave him a meaningful look and said, “The location of Li Family Village is remote and the environment is poor. What if Qiankun Group is just trying to mislead people?”
Jiang Anbang knew about the subway plans but wasn’t aware of Qiankun Group’s specific actions. He was simply trying to satisfy his curiosity.
“Old Master, if that were the case, I wouldn’t have bet my entire fortune on it!” Shen Fei smiled slyly.
“I went to Li Family Village to investigate myself. I found that it’s a critical transportation hub connecting four nearby cities. Looking at Shen City’s subway extension plans, the possibility of a future connection is high.”
“Timing and probability are key here. If Qiankun Group starts the project soon, my investment will multiply several times. If they pass on it, I’ll just wait until the government extends the subway line. Once that happens, the area will naturally prosper, and buyers will come flocking in!”
“I just don’t believe that Qiankun Group would let such a golden opportunity slip away!”
Jiang Anbang was deeply impressed. Shen Fei’s analysis was logical, and his sharp observation skills and long-term vision were exceptional, enough to surpass many seasoned businessmen.
“Such a pity—you chose business!” Jiang Anbang said with regret.
“Old Master, it’s not such a pity. I enjoy taking risks and using my wits. The structured system wouldn’t tolerate someone like me,” Shen Fei said humbly with a smile.
Jiang Anbang nodded in agreement. If Shen Fei had joined the system, his talents might have been wasted.
“You told Tiancheng this was a short-term project. Does that mean you’re confident Qiankun Group will buy from you?” Jiang Anbang continued.
“I’m not entirely sure. After all, we’re talking about billions here. Qiankun Group loves to drag things out,” Shen Fei said with a bitter smile.
“Then why—” Jiang Anbang hesitated.
“My gut tells me so!” Shen Fei interrupted firmly.
“Your gut?” Jiang Anbang asked.
“Yes. Ever since I bought that jade pendant from Yongxing Street, my instincts have been incredibly accurate!” Shen Fei said with narrowed eyes.
“Plus, I once studied the I Ching and Eight Trigrams under an old master, so my intuition has only gotten sharper!”
Jiang Anbang’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Is that true?” Jiang Anbang asked.
“Absolutely. If that old master were still around, I might already be known as ‘Master Shen’ by now!” Shen Fei joked.
At this moment, two hurried footsteps sounded from outside.
When Shen Fei saw the woman following Jiang Shengcai, his eyes widened in shock.
She was Jiang Shengcai’s trusted aide, someone he had relied on heavily. Yet she was the very person who had betrayed him, bringing ruin to his company and his family.
Shen Fei hadn’t expected to encounter her here, but with everything leading up to this moment, he quickly formulated a plan in his mind.
