by MarineTLChapter 179: A Reward of Thirty Million!
“Yes, I didn’t expect Mr. Shen to still remember me!”
After exchanging pleasantries, the other party got straight to the point.
“Mr. Shen, we have a favor to ask, and we wonder if you’d be willing to help us.”
“Hmm? Mr. Huang, please go ahead and say it!” Shen Fei replied, clearly confused.
“Alright, Mr. Shen, I’ll be direct. Tomorrow, there’s an antique exhibition. Officially it’s an exhibition, but if you see something you like, you can also place a bid! What we’d like is for you to come and take a look. There are some great items at this exhibition, but just to be safe, we’d like to ask for your help and expertise!” Huang Jing spoke sincerely.
“Take a look? As far as I know, Vanke Group has its own team of archaeology experts and institutions, right?” Shen Fei asked, confused.
“Mr. Shen!”
On the other end of the phone, the voice changed, now deep and somewhat weathered.
“Huh?” Shen Fei was completely stunned. Wasn’t he speaking his native language? Did he need a translator too?
“Mr. Shen, I’m Shi Hongke, Chairman of Vanke Group. If it weren’t for you returning those three items to us last time, Vanke Group could have faced a major crisis, possibly even bankruptcy. We are truly grateful to you!”
Shi Hongke’s tone was filled with gratitude and relief. He then continued,
“So, this time, I’d like to respectfully ask if you could help us again. Even though we have a professional team, they are far from your level, Mr. Shen. We really need your expertise…”
Upon hearing this, Shen Fei was stunned. The chairman of Vanke Group himself was speaking to him!
What kind of antique exhibition was this? Why was it so important that Vanke Group valued it this much? His curiosity grew.
In his previous life, after he found success in business and his career stabilized, Shen Fei developed a deep interest in antiques. He even set up a few research rooms dedicated to studying and collecting antiques, with each item worth a fortune.
Later on, as his career grew even more successful, he donated these antiques to national museums or archaeology experts for research and appreciation. Because of this, Shen Fei became well-versed in antiques, and many experts in the field acknowledged his knowledge, even saying they felt inferior in comparison.
In his previous life, Shen Fei attended several large-scale antique appreciation events, and was even called the King of Antique Appreciation. However, he had never heard of the antique exhibition mentioned by Vanke Group.
But since Shi Hongke himself was personally asking him to come and help, it was clear that this event was far more significant than it appeared.
After a long silence, Shi Hongke, sensing that Shen Fei might be hesitating, quickly added,
“Mr. Shen, I assure you, Vanke Group will compensate you accordingly. You won’t waste your time! We can offer thirty million. You don’t have to do anything, just help us with your expertise!”
The offer of thirty million left Shen Fei even more confused.
What kind of magical event was this, where Vanke Group would pay thirty million just for him to take a look?
“Chairman Shi, may I ask why this antique exhibition is so important to you?” Shen Fei asked, puzzled.
“Mr. Shen, now that we’re at this point, I’ll be honest with you. While the exhibition is officially an exhibition, the event will attract more attendees than a typical one, with a wide range of items being displayed, both real and fake. It’s a chance to buy real treasures, but if they’re fake, it’ll be a disaster!”
Shi Hongke spoke with great seriousness.
“Mr. Shen, as you probably know, Vanke Group is famous for its expertise in treasure identification. While money is no object, if we end up purchasing a fake, our reputation will suffer. That price will be far more costly than the thirty million! Moreover, there are rumors that a few rare treasures will be on display at this exhibition, which is why we are taking it so seriously!”
There was something else Shi Hongke didn’t say. After the previous blunder involving the three items, he had lost confidence in the treasure appraisal team. This time, the treasures on display might be priceless, and he couldn’t afford to make any mistakes.
“Chairman Shi, now that you’ve put it this way, if I refuse, it would be ungrateful of me! But I’ll only help with the identification. If I make a mistake, Vanke Group won’t hold me responsible, right?” Shen Fei said calmly.
“Of course! If someone like you can make a mistake, I’ll take full responsibility for that!” Shi Hongke quickly agreed.
“Good! When and where is the event?” Shen Fei asked.
“Tomorrow at 9 AM, Jian’an Hotel,” Shi Hongke replied.
“Alright, I’ll be there!” Shen Fei said before hanging up.
Meanwhile, in Vanke Group’s meeting room, Shi Hongke sighed in relief, while Huang Jing looked troubled.
“Chairman, tomorrow’s event is being hosted by Liu’s Group. They are our competitors! Who knows if their invitation is sincere? What if they set a trap for us? Liu’s Group doesn’t seem like a trustworthy organization!” Huang Jing said with concern.
“Huang Jing, you need to think things through. Yes, Liu’s Group has always seen us as a competitor, and they want to bring down Vanke Group to dominate the treasure identification market. So, their invitation to us is definitely not a good sign!”
Shi Hongke said in a calm tone.
“But, then why are we going…?” Huang Jing asked, confused.
“The Liu’s Group headquarters isn’t in Shenzhen, yet they’re hosting this exhibition here. Clearly, it’s a challenge to us! If we don’t accept, it’ll look like we’re afraid of them. So, no matter what, we have to go!”
Shi Hongke said firmly,
“As long as Vanke Group stands strong, Liu’s Group will always be suppressed!”
“But…” Huang Jing still had doubts.
“Enough! Didn’t you say Shen Fei’s eye for antiques is impressive? Even our appraisal team admires him. Let’s give it a shot. If he misses something, we’ll accept it. But if he identifies a rare treasure, Liu’s Group will be the laughingstock!”
Despite his boss’s confidence, Huang Jing still felt uneasy.
“Alright, go home for now. I need to go to Dongya tonight. You explain everything to Shen Fei tomorrow!” Shi Hongke concluded.
“Understood, Chairman!” Huang Jing responded.
