by MarineTLChapter 546: Are You Willing to Withdraw the Lawsuit?
After Shen Fei finished speaking, he reached for his phone.
Upon hearing Shen Fei’s words, Han Xinyan was stunned.
The court hearing was about to start, and the CEO of Tengke Company, Ma Hua, was calling them at this moment?
How could this be possible?
On the other side, Shen Fei had already answered the call from Ma Hua.
This number was one Ma Hua had used to call Shen Fei before, but Shen Fei had never taken it seriously. However, due to his good memory, he recognized the number immediately when he saw it on the screen.
“Mr. Ma, the court hearing is about to begin. We’ll see each other at the courthouse soon. Was there really a need for this call?” Shen Fei teased.
As for meeting at the courthouse?
Shen Fei knew that wasn’t going to happen.
As the CEO of Tengke, Ma Hua would never personally show up at the court.
“Mr. Shen, as you said, the hearing is about to begin! So let’s get straight to the point! What conditions can we offer you so that you’ll agree to withdraw the lawsuit? Mr. Shen, you must know that if you take a step back, there will be many opportunities for collaboration between our two companies. Tengke will provide you with favorable conditions. So, Mr. Shen, do you still think this is necessary?”
After a pause, Ma Hua continued,
“Mr. Shen, I understand that if you win the lawsuit, the impact it will have on you cannot be underestimated. But is this the best way? If you collaborate with Tengke, I will announce our partnership publicly and promote it! That way, you’ll still gain widespread fame. All of Tengke’s subsidiaries will prioritize collaborating with you! This win-win situation, Mr. Shen, why wouldn’t you consider it? Why insist on a confrontation?”
After hearing Ma Hua’s words, Shen Fei smiled faintly, his lips curling in amusement.
“Mr. Ma, from what you’re saying, it seems like Tengke and this lawsuit have no hope left, is that right?”
“Mr. Shen, with lawsuits, no one can say for sure. Only when the result is out can we make a final judgment! The reason I’m calling you now is to see if we can settle this privately! If you’re willing to withdraw the lawsuit, Tengke will be willing to help optimize the ‘Tianxia’ mobile game and make it the most powerful game in China! In addition, all the other businesses under your name will be able to cooperate with Tengke! However, if you don’t want to do that, we will offer you a financial compensation for withdrawing the lawsuit. You can also propose any other terms!”
Ma Hua quickly outlined his thoughts.
In fact, although Ma Hua didn’t explicitly state it, the underlying message of his words was clear: Tengke Company had already conceded defeat.
After thinking it over for a while, Ma Hua finally decided to speak this way, as it was the best solution he could come up with.
“Mr. Ma, based on what you just said, anyone can tell that Tengke Company definitely plagiarized our ‘Tianxia’ game! As long as I record this conversation and submit it to the court, Tengke Company won’t even be able to argue. You’ll lose immediately!” Shen Fei responded with a hint of mockery.
This…
After hearing Shen Fei’s words, Ma Hua froze, and after a moment, he was furious. He almost wanted to confront Shen Fei directly.
So all that talk was useless?
It was a waste of time!
Moreover, whether Shen Fei recorded the conversation or not, Tengke Company was already at a disadvantage in this lawsuit.
If there was even the slightest chance of victory, how could the proud CEO of Tengke, Ma Hua, lower himself like this?
“Mr. Shen, let’s get back to the point! Are you willing to withdraw the lawsuit? The conditions we are offering are very generous! If you think these terms aren’t good enough, feel free to tell me what you want!” Ma Hua persisted, trying to remain patient.
“Mr. Ma, now that things have developed to this point and the hearing is about to start, how could I just withdraw the lawsuit? And I’m not someone who hasn’t given you chances, but you’ve repeatedly ignored my warnings. Now, when the situation is urgent, you want to talk about settlement… Mr. Ma, let’s not even get started on the compensation you promised me… Hmph, I, Shen Fei, don’t need that little bit of money!” Shen Fei said, his tone unwavering.
Hearing Ma Hua’s heavy breathing through the phone, Shen Fei calmly added,
“Also, Mr. Ma, if Tengke wants to collaborate with me, I can agree. But let’s talk about that after the lawsuit ends, if you still want to then!” Shen Fei said.
This made Ma Hua extremely angry.
Tengke Company had grown to its current size with an incredibly high attitude, and even when it came to collaborations, it was always other companies begging to work with them.
Now, not only was he being continuously disrespected by Shen Fei, but even the prospect of collaboration was conditional upon Shen Fei’s willingness?
This was unacceptable for both Tengke and Ma Hua.
“Mr. Shen, is there really no chance to ease this situation?” Ma Hua asked.
“No! Mr. Ma, at this point, just wait quietly for the hearing to begin!” Shen Fei replied directly.
“Are you really going to go head-to-head with Tengke Company?” Ma Hua asked again.
“Mr. Ma, you’ve got it wrong! We mind our own business, but Tengke went out of its way to provoke us… I don’t care how you think about it, Mr. Ma, once someone is determined to do something, it’s hard to change their mind!” Shen Fei said.
“Fine!” Ma Hua spat out a single word.
Before Shen Fei could respond, he hung up the phone.
Seeing this, Han Xinyan quickly turned her head and asked in confusion,
“It really was Ma Hua?”
“Of course!” Shen Fei nodded.
“He’s calling to get us to withdraw the lawsuit? Does this mean that even Tengke Company itself thinks they have no chance of winning this time?” Han Xinyan asked, puzzled.
“As for what the final outcome of the lawsuit will be, we don’t know, but Tengke Company has clearly lost the arrogance and confidence they once had. We just need to stay calm and be confident in ourselves!” Shen Fei replied.
Hearing this, Han Xinyan lowered her head, her mind in a state of confusion.
She had heard of Tengke Company.
Such an arrogant company, now actively seeking peace, and the one pushing for it was her husband!
It was hard to believe, especially when she thought about how quickly Shen Fei had changed in just half a year.
Tengke, however, had been around for many years.
An hour later, Shen Fei and Han Xinyan finally arrived at the courthouse.
As soon as a car pulled up, everyone’s eyes immediately focused on it.
In an instant, their eyes brightened.
They knew the key figure had arrived!
—————- END —————-
Chapter 547: Emotions Running High?
The moment the key figures arrived, nearly all the journalists and major media personalities surged forward.
This put unprecedented pressure on Yuan Song and the others.
Even though they were paying close attention to every direction, at this moment, they could hardly help but wish they could split themselves into several clones to handle everything.
After all, with the crowd bustling around, if anyone in the crowd intended to harm Shen Fei and his wife, they would be helpless to stop them.
Although this idea might seem unbelievable in today’s law-abiding society, as the saying goes, “The bigger the tree, the more it attracts the wind,” and given the unfavorable public opinion of Shen Fei, they had to be constantly on alert.
It took about ten minutes for the black Maybach to slowly park in the designated parking space at the courthouse.
Shen Fei and Han Xinyan appeared in the crowd’s line of sight.
“Mr. Shen, do you think you can defeat the legal department of Tengke Corporation?”
“Mr. Shen, you’re already successful, why did you choose an unheard-of law firm?”
“Mr. Shen, if you lose, will you appeal?”
“Mr. Shen, do you believe in your lawyer’s victory, and that’s why you’re here for the trial today?”
“Mr. Shen, can you respond to the car accident and extortion incident involving your mother-in-law?”
“Mr. Shen…”
As the crowd surged, reporters raised their microphones, eagerly seizing the opportunity to interview Shen Fei.
Fearing the time was short, the reporters’ voices overlapped, and their cameras were all aimed at Shen Fei and Han Xinyan, trying to capture their expressions in time.
Shen Fei smiled faintly in response to the reporters’ questions and directly looked into the cameras, saying,
“Today is the day for the trial between my company, Longguang Media, and Tengke Corporation. As for the details, I believe everyone understands. I’m grateful that you all are here, showing such interest in this matter. But as the trial is about to start, anything I say now is futile. Please wait for the final judgment from the court. As for whether Tengke Corporation copied our game, I believe your own judgment will be clearer than mine.”
“Looking at the current state of intellectual property law in our country, it’s clear that the laws are far from perfect, which has allowed many companies to exploit loopholes. So, more than winning this lawsuit, I hope that my actions will encourage creators to stand up for their rights and fight for justice!”
“But this is just my personal wish. The outcome of this case is still uncertain. If we lose, then we simply weren’t prepared enough. However, no matter what, we won’t bow down!”
Shen Fei’s attitude was neither humble nor arrogant, and his words were well thought out.
However, the reporters weren’t ready to let him off the hook.
“Mr. Shen, you previously made statements to the camera regarding Tengke Corporation and the local courts. Does that mean you’ve already noticed an undisclosed relationship between Tengke and the Zhushi Court? Otherwise, why have so many gaming companies sued Tengke, only to lose?”
Upon hearing this, Shen Fei coldly glanced at the reporter.
“This reporter, please don’t misunderstand my previous actions. Whether before or now, I’ve never said or meant anything like that. The trial is about to start, and I look forward to the final judgment from the officials. We’ve submitted all the evidence, and if we lose, it will simply be because we weren’t adequately prepared!”
His calm and confident response left the listeners shocked.
After all, their impression of Shen Fei was simply based on the online label of a “nouveau riche.”
A nouveau riche was supposed to be uncultured and low-class, like Duan Guoan, who spoke without sophistication.
Yet the words Shen Fei spoke now were completely different from the image they had of him.
“Mr. Shen, your attitude now is a complete turnaround from last time!” a reporter joked.
“Last time, I was too impulsive and emotional, and I admit I spoke without thinking. I sincerely apologize! Now that the court is taking this matter seriously, and allowing me to protect my rights through legal means, I am grateful! I trust in the country and in the law!” Shen Fei said with a faint smile.
…
Emotions running high? Speaking without thinking?
What a good excuse!
But if you really kept clinging to Shen Fei’s past mistakes, that wouldn’t align with a journalist’s professional ethics.
Even if the reporters didn’t believe Shen Fei’s last words were just a result of his emotions, they couldn’t press him further.
“Mr. Shen, you said that if you lose, would you still choose to appeal?” one reporter asked again.
However, this time, Shen Fei didn’t get a chance to respond.
Because Liang Shuang, representing Yunhe Law Firm, quickly made her way through the crowd and arrived next to Shen Fei and Han Xinyan.
“Mr. Shen, Ms. Han, the trial is about to start, let’s go inside together!” Liang Shuang smiled.
“Okay!”
Shen Fei and Han Xinyan nodded slightly, then, with the escort of a few bodyguards, they walked towards the courthouse.
The reporters and media, although unwilling, dared not contradict Liang Shuang. They could only continue asking questions about the lawsuit and the law firm while the group walked towards the courthouse.
But no matter what they asked, neither Shen Fei nor Liang Shuang stopped to answer.
On the other side, Tengke Corporation’s legal team had yet to arrive at the courthouse.
In a black Mercedes, Ding Yongxing, the head of the legal department, looked grim.
“Director Ding, what exactly did Mr. Ma say?” someone from the legal team asked anxiously.
Ding Yongxing put away his phone, glanced at the team member, and said helplessly,
“What else could he say? Get ready, and pull yourselves together. This battle is about to begin!”
Upon hearing this, the entire legal team sucked in a cold breath.
Even with Mr. Ma’s intervention, the outcome of the lawsuit was still clear.
While going to court was not a mistake, the result was obvious.
They had already lost without fighting, and soon it would be openly declared in court.
“Director Ding, if we really go to court, our reputation as the ‘invincible general’ will be over! And our opponents will rise up on our backs…”
“Exactly, Director Ding! I think Shen Fei did this on purpose! He deliberately chose such a small law firm to make things harder for us…”
Hearing their complaints, Ding Yongxing shook his head.
“Talking about it now is pointless. Get ready and go! The title of ‘invincible general’ is just something the outside world gave us. Don’t take it too seriously. If we’re going to lose, we’ll lose honorably!”
After saying this, Ding Yongxing waved his hand.
“Let’s go!”
“Okay, Director Ding!”
With that, the two Mercedes cars slowly began to move.

Chapter 548: A Special Guest!
When the black Mercedes-Benz pulled up to the courthouse, it was once again surrounded by people.
However, compared to Shen Fei’s willingness to talk, the members of Tengke Corporation’s legal department who got out of the car were extremely cold and indifferent. They ignored the reporters and their questions completely, walking quickly into the courthouse.
Inside, they had once built Tengke Corporation’s reputation as the undefeated champion of Zhushi City. But deep down, they knew that their glory was likely coming to an end today.
No matter how they felt about it, their hearts were filled with great reluctance. After all, their opponent in this lawsuit was a small law firm they had never heard of, with no reputation whatsoever. This firm would now become famous through this case.
Usually, it was Tengke who held the spotlight, but now the tables had turned.
As time passed, the court hearing time drew closer, and the reporters and media waited idly at the courthouse, preparing for the final verdict.
However, just as their boredom reached its peak, several luxury cars with Shenzhen license plates roared to a stop at the courthouse entrance, jolting the reporters and media into action.
Out of the cars stepped Duan Guxiang, Jiang Tiancheng, Hu Yuantai, and other rich second-generation and official second-generation individuals from Shenzhen.
Seeing this, reporters who knew that Shen Fei was on good terms with these individuals were shocked. Could it be that these people were here to support Shen Fei?
There was no other reasonable explanation, was there?
How could that be possible?
Shen Fei was just a nouveau riche, how could he have such a powerful network?
Possibly intimidated by the arrival of these second-generation elites, the reporters and media, though surprised, didn’t rush to surround them. Instead, they watched in awe as the group entered the courthouse.
Before they could recover from their shock, another supercar appeared at the courthouse entrance.
Upon seeing the car’s license plate, the people who had been waiting eagerly erupted in excitement.
This was someone they never expected to see.
“My god, Zhang Sici is here too, could he be here to support Shen Fei?”
“It’s Zhang Sici! It’s Zhang Sici! I recognize his license plate! It’s him!”
“Last time, after Shen Fei posted on Weibo, Zhang Sici directly reposted in support of Shen Fei! So, he must be here because of Shen Fei!”
“Wow, Shen Fei has only been successful for about half a year, and he already knows someone like Zhang Sici…”
The reporters’ excitement was even more intense than usual.
“Young Master Zhang, are you here for Shen Fei?” they quickly rushed toward Zhang Sici, but before they could get close, Zhang’s bodyguards separated them.
Seeing the reporters’ questions, Zhang Sici smiled calmly and said, “Of course!”
“Young Master Zhang, how well do you know Shen Fei?” the reporters asked again.
“This is our first meeting, what do you think?” Zhang Sici responded directly.
“Young Master Zhang, you’ve never met him, yet you’re here supporting him in court?” one reporter asked.
“Why? Should I report to you before supporting someone?” Zhang Sici replied playfully.
“Young Master Zhang, who do you think will win this lawsuit?”
“Who will win, we’ll all know in the end!” Zhang Sici said lightly.
“Young Master Zhang, do you have anything you want to say about this case?” another reporter asked.
Zhang Sici stopped walking, looked at the reporter, and said, “Do I have something to say? Of course I do!”
Then, he looked directly at the camera and said, “Mr. Shen, you’re amazing!”
Afterward, without paying any more attention to the stunned reporters, he walked confidently into the courthouse.
Even as the reporters snapped out of their surprise and rushed to catch up, Zhang Sici did not stop to answer them.
While the outside atmosphere was tense, the one inside the courthouse was even more so.
Both legal teams were already in place. Due to certain reasons, the number of people in the jury had been reduced, and only necessary personnel and those related to Tengke Corporation were allowed in.
At the same time, Shen Fei and Han Xinyan were surrounded by second-generation elites like Jiang Tiancheng.
As the courthouse doors were about to close, signaling the start of the trial, a familiar yet unexpected figure appeared before everyone.
“My god, Zhang Sici? Why is he suddenly here?” Jiang Tiancheng was incredulous.
This caused the spectators to turn toward the door in surprise. A lawsuit that could attract someone like Zhang Sici was beyond their wildest imagination.
After all, Zhang Sici was ranked among the top three in the second-generation elite circles.
Even Shen Fei was surprised when he saw Zhang Sici.
However, unlike others, Hu Yuantai’s expression was slightly unusual.
Hu Yuantai didn’t care about Zhang Sici’s arrival, but he was concerned about whether Zhang would reveal his background. If there were even the slightest slip-up, Shen Fei’s sharp mind would undoubtedly figure it out.
How would he respond to that?
Full of worry, Hu Yuantai was proven to have overreacted.
Zhang Sici simply glanced at Hu Yuantai without lingering on him, and then walked toward Shen Fei.
“Mr. Shen, it’s nice to meet you! I think we both know who the other is, right?” Zhang Sici said as he approached Shen Fei with a smile.
Shen Fei and Han Xinyan stood politely as they greeted him.
“You’re too kind, Young Master Zhang! It’s an honor for us that you came to observe the trial,” Shen Fei said with a smile.
“You’re too humble! I supported you after you posted about this case on Weibo, and that shows I’m on your side. If you need anything, feel free to ask! I’ve rarely volunteered to help anyone, and being ignored is even rarer!” Zhang Sici said with a smile. His unremarkable appearance, combined with his strong family background, made him seem out of place yet entirely normal.
Hearing this, Shen Fei couldn’t help but feel a bit nostalgic. Soon, Zhang Sici would once again become famous for his “thoughts on you” sentiment, and whenever “licking dog” literature was mentioned, Zhang Sici’s name would appear…
“You’re not blaming me for ignoring you earlier, are you?” Shen Fei said.
“Not at all!” Zhang Sici quickly shook his head.
“But I have to say, it’s precisely because of your behavior that I’ve become even more curious about you!” Zhang Sici added.
As Shen Fei and Zhang Sici were chatting, the jury and the judges entered the room.
Upon seeing the audience below, they paused for a moment, but quickly regained composure.
“Quiet!” the judge called.
At this, Shen Fei took his seat.
Zhang Sici, meanwhile, turned his attention to Jiang Tiancheng.
“Hey, mind moving a bit?” he asked.
When Jiang Tiancheng was about to get up, Shen Fei smiled lightly.
“You don’t have to get up, Young Master Zhang. There are plenty of seats,” Shen Fei said.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Sici awkwardly waved his hand and said, “Alright, we’ll do it your way.”
He took a few steps back, his thoughts seemingly complicated.
—————- END —————-
Chapter 549: The Other Party Is Confusing Right and Wrong!
As Zhang Sikun took his seat, the lawsuit between Longguang Media and Tengke Company officially began.
After going through the regular procedures and testimony, the lawyers from both sides took the stage.
“Your Honor, and all the observers, first of all, I must disagree with the accusation that ‘Tengke Company plagiarized Longguang Media’s mobile game, ‘Tianjue’.’ Whether in games or in other fields, it’s common to find similar or identical elements by accident. Can we call that plagiarism? Plagiarism means exactly copying something, 100%, and that’s not the case with Tengke. If we must say anything, we can only say that we were inspired!”
“There are many games in the market that have borrowed ideas from Tengke’s games. Should we consider them as plagiarizing us? Of course not. That’s why we are calling it borrowing, not plagiarism!”
An elite lawyer from Tengke’s legal department stepped forward to defend the company.
As soon as these words were spoken, the audience behind them scoffed derisively.
There were indeed many smaller companies that plagiarized Tengke’s games, but those were small players with no significant impact on Tengke, so Tengke didn’t bother suing them.
On the contrary, when Tengke saw a popular game, they immediately copied it, stealing both the creative ideas and the framework of the game.
This forced many innovative game companies or teams to protect their games as soon as they were developed to prevent Tengke from copying them.
If they didn’t, the result could be the loss of everything.
Despite these efforts, many companies had been taken advantage of by Tengke, eventually losing everything.
Because of this, in recent years, Tengke’s position in the industry had become even more secure, and there were no new game ideas or innovations emerging in China.
Against this backdrop, as the lawsuit was in full swing, Tengke’s lawyer could still speak so arrogantly and unreasonably, trying to confuse the issue. How could anyone not find it repugnant?
Even the judges up on the bench couldn’t help but frown.
The audience below began to murmur.
“Silence!”
The presiding judge slammed his gavel, his voice stern.
Hearing this, the audience gradually quieted down.
The Tengke lawyer continued,
“If borrowing is to be defined as plagiarism, then not just Tengke, but other companies would also be sued every time they borrow an idea. If we take, for example, the game mechanic of monster hunting and leveling up, this design is common in many games. If I develop it and someone else uses it, can I say they’re plagiarizing? Clearly, that would be unreasonable, wouldn’t it?”
“The other party is deliberately blurring the lines between borrowing and plagiarism. If this argument stands, it would be impossible for any game to survive on the market. Otherwise, every game would be sued!”
As soon as he finished speaking, the members of the judging panel all frowned deeply.
Honestly, this argument seemed a bit forced!
After Tengke’s lawyer finished speaking, Liang Shuang, the lawyer representing Longguang Media, stood up from his seat.
They had long anticipated what kind of defense Tengke’s lawyers would make and what reasons they would offer.
“Your Honor, and all the judges, I can say frankly that the defense provided by the opposing lawyer is simply muddling the concepts! No matter how you look at it, borrowing and plagiarism are two completely different concepts! Regarding whether Tengke copied the game ‘Tianjue’ under Longguang Media, we have already submitted a series of relevant materials. As for the idea of monster hunting and leveling up, yes, it exists in many games, but the execution is different. The way it is presented is different. Therefore, they are deliberately changing the definition!”
“Their so-called ‘borrowing’ is not what they claim it to be! From the game framework to the character designs and game concepts, they’ve copied everything! It’s like an exam: we work hard to answer the questions, and then the other side simply copies our answers. To hide the plagiarism, they change a few answers, but in the end, whether it’s 80% or 1%, it’s still plagiarism! Surely, as lawyers, they understand this concept!”
“By defending such actions, the opposing lawyer is not only showing disrespect for others’ intellectual property, but also disregarding the law! Moreover, if we follow their logic, then if a literary work contains similar words, can we claim that they are all plagiarizing each other? This argument is completely untenable!”
With a firm attitude, Liang Shuang directly confronted the aggressive defense of Tengke’s lawyers.
After saying this, Liang Shuang looked toward the opposing lawyer with a mocking expression.
“Tengke’s legal department is famously known as an undefeated general, but is it really just through these little tricks and the blurring of the facts that they’ve earned this reputation?”
With those words, the presiding judge immediately slammed his gavel.
He then turned to Liang Shuang with a stern look.
“Attorney, the court is a place of fairness and justice. Personal attacks are not allowed!”
“Understood, Your Honor!” Liang Shuang nodded and smiled, offering no further argument.
In the face of Liang Shuang’s sharp rebuke, the Tengke lawyers did not show any visible reaction.
“The other party’s lawyer accuses us of blurring the lines between borrowing and plagiarism. But, to be honest, isn’t that what we want to say to them?” one of Tengke’s lawyers responded.
“Take the example of the exam: the lawyer’s argument doesn’t work. If the answers are the same, it’s not plagiarism. The literary work example is even worse. Chinese culture is profound, and words like ‘de’, ‘di’, and ‘de’ appear frequently in literature. So, the other side is reversing right and wrong!”
He paused for a moment, then shot Liang Shuang a provocative look.
“Enough of these distractions! Longguang Media is basing their accusation solely on a few similarities between ‘Tianjue’ and ‘Tianxia.’ They’re jumping to conclusions too quickly! Where is the evidence to support their claims? How can they claim we’re plagiarizing their game? I’d like to hear how the opposing lawyer answers that!”
—————- END —————-
Chapter 550: Rejecting Moral Blackmail!
The lawyers from Tengke’s legal department were very confident about all of this. Their expressions were calm, as if everything had gone exactly as they expected. They had prepared for a long time, carefully setting things up so that the opposing side would fall into their trap.
Once the opposing side took the bait and made the statements they anticipated, they would counterattack and turn the case back to square one. Their ultimate goal was to cause the other party to lose their composure, and in that panic, they might walk straight into the trap set by Tengke. When that happened, the opposing side would be in a weakened position, and Tengke would launch a fierce counterattack.
Even if the case had the attention of high-level officials in the capital, and even if the court seemed to be favoring the opposing party, Tengke’s legal team still believed their chances were slim. But as long as they could cause the other side to lose their footing, they still had a small chance of victory. In that case, no matter how powerful the capital’s leaders were or how biased the court seemed, the outcome would not change. Even if they lost, they would still maintain some honor.
But if they did nothing and continuously retreated, allowing the opposing side to win, then they would truly have lost and would have no face to show.
Little did they know, Yunhe Law Firm, which had adopted a strategy of retreating in order to advance, was actually guiding Tengke into their trap. Since the establishment of Yunhe Law Firm and their involvement in this case after being commissioned by Shen Fei, all of Yunhe’s lawyers had carefully studied Tengke’s usual methods. Their only aim was to beat Tengke and make a name for themselves.
In the past two weeks, Yunhe Law Firm had been diligent, improving their chances of winning in a direct confrontation to an astonishing 99.99%. Given this, how could they possibly lose?
If Liang Shuang had known Tengke’s legal team’s thinking, she would have scoffed and called it arrogant!
Tengke’s tactics and the questions they raised were, in fact, already anticipated by Yunhe. Take now, for example.
Seeing the opposing lawyer’s provocative look, Liang Shuang found it utterly laughable. She responded coolly:
“As for whether Tengke’s ‘Tianxia’ has plagiarized Longguang Media’s ‘Tianjue’, all related materials have already been submitted to the panel of judges. You can say whatever you like, but the judges will give a fair answer!”
As soon as she finished speaking, the presiding judge and the panel of judges exchanged glances before making the relevant materials public.
The documents outlined detailed materials and evidence item by item.
Each piece of evidence clearly supported the claim that ‘Tianxia’ had plagiarized ‘Tianjue’ in some aspects.
Whether it was strong evidence or not, both sides were aware of the similarities and potential plagiarism. However, what Tengke’s legal team hadn’t anticipated was that instead of orally presenting the evidence, the other side had compiled everything in documents.
This move completely shut down Tengke’s plan to exploit any gaps in the oral testimony.
“Attorney from the opposing side, can these materials prove that ‘Tianxia’ is a direct plagiarism of ‘Tianjue’?” Liang Shuang asked with full confidence.
“From the documents, there are indeed some similarities between the two games in certain aspects. Even so, this can only be described as borrowing, not plagiarism. So, may I ask, is there any law that specifically states that the similarities between ‘Tianxia’ and ‘Tianjue’ constitute plagiarism?” asked Ding Yongxing, Tengke’s lawyer.
“As the head of Tengke’s legal department, instead of improving the relevant laws, are you trying to exploit every loophole? How laughable!” Liang Shuang responded.
“You are the one who is laughable! You accuse us of plagiarizing your game, but you still haven’t pointed out which law we have violated. How is that different from slandering us?” Ding Yongxing retorted fiercely.
He then turned to the judges and continued, “Honorable judges, I still stand by our argument. Whether in the gaming industry or any other, it’s natural for ideas to overlap. We cannot call it plagiarism just because of some similarities. There is no legal support for that, and such vague definitions could disrupt the balance between companies. As for the similarities between the two games, it’s clear that they are a case of borrowing, not plagiarism. Take Tengke itself as an example—many companies share similarities with Tengke’s games. If we were to act like the opposing party, how would China’s gaming industry flourish?”
Ding Yongxing’s words showed no regard for ethics. He was clearly expressing discontent with Longguang Media and Yunhe Law Firm’s lawsuit.
And then, the notion of other companies borrowing from Tengke? How dare they even bring that up?
Whenever a new game was released, Tengke was always the first to act, ensuring their dominance in the market. How could Tengke allow other companies to copy or borrow from them? If Tengke decided to turn on them, these companies would regret it in an instant.
As the lawyers from Tengke’s legal team spouted their defense, the audience looked on with disdain.
At this point, Liang Shuang stood up and directly responded:
“Regarding the opposing lawyer’s words, yes, there currently isn’t a law in China to support our argument. Why is that? Because laws concerning intellectual property are still not perfect in our country. This has allowed certain companies to exploit these loopholes for unjust gains! But this doesn’t mean that the opposing party hasn’t plagiarized our game. The public can clearly see that ‘Tianxia’ and ‘Tianjue’ are almost 95% similar! If the opposing side gets away with this, it will make it even harder for anyone to protect their rights in the future, and they will become more arrogant. This is not a fair outcome!”
“Attorney from the opposing side, stop using moral blackmail! We are here in court because of the law! So, reason should prevail over emotion. It’s true that the current intellectual property laws are not perfect, but does that mean we can be accused of plagiarism just because of some similarities? Would that be fair to you? And what about us? Tengke is a major taxpayer—if they suffer from this injustice, it will break the hearts of many who support them!”
Ding Yongxing stood up, full of righteous indignation.
