Chapter 41: Shen Fei, Run Fast!

That sarcastic tone, coupled with the phrase “you’re really capable,” was dripping with mockery and ridicule.

Even a fool could hear the underlying meaning in those words.

This wasn’t just contempt toward Manager Han but outright mockery of Shen Fei as well.

“Shen Fei, you can’t trust this bastard! He just doesn’t want me to get promoted! You saw everything that happened at Chengyou Technology that day!”

    Manager Han hurriedly explained.

By now, the unusual commotion at the table had drawn the attention of the surrounding guests, who cast puzzled glances toward them.

Hearing Zhang Gui’s last words, even the nearby diners began looking at Manager Han with speculation in their eyes.

“Hmph! Manager Han, don’t be so petty! I’m the president here! Isn’t my position higher than yours? Do you really think I’d use it to fool your husband?”

    Zhang Gui sneered disdainfully.

He had heard that Manager Han’s husband was jealous, insecure, and even prone to domestic violence.

His goal was simple—to provoke Shen Fei into beating Manager Han right here.

    But…

Shen Fei simply stared at Zhang Gui for a moment, then stepped forward and shielded Manager Han behind him.

“President Zhang? What exactly are you trying to do?”

The outburst Zhang Gui expected didn’t happen. He was momentarily disappointed and caught off guard by Shen Fei’s question.

What was he trying to do? Nothing at all!

But the meaning behind his words—didn’t Shen Fei get it?

“Are you an idiot? I spelled it out so clearly, and you’re still asking what I want? I’m saying you’ve been cheated on! Get it? Damn it! You’re such a fool—no wonder your wife is having an affair!”

Zhang Gui was furious, frustrated by Shen Fei’s lack of reaction.

He desperately wanted Shen Fei to explode and attack Manager Han publicly!

The reason Zhang Gui dared to speak so bluntly was that he believed Shen Fei was a complete coward who wouldn’t dare to touch him.

This was precisely why Zhang Gui had developed inappropriate thoughts about Manager Han. Now that he couldn’t have her, his anger boiled over.

After his tirade, Zhang Gui even shot a provocative look at Manager Han.

    However, the next second—

    “Smack!”

A loud, crisp slap echoed in the restaurant.

Before Zhang Gui could react, Shen Fei followed up with a heavy kick to his stomach.

The overweight and pampered Zhang Gui was completely caught off guard.

Wailing in pain, he slumped to the floor, stunned.

Manager Han, standing beside them, was equally dumbfounded.

She recalled how, in the past, whenever she was teased by other men, Shen Fei would cower and tremble, only to vent his frustrations later at home by abusing her.

But now, he had actually attacked someone in public?

Was this really the Shen Fei she remembered?

    “Damn it, I…”

Zhang Gui struggled to his feet, clutching his stomach and his slapped cheek, glaring furiously at Shen Fei.

Yet before he could act, Shen Fei stepped forward, grabbed Zhang Gui by the collar, and growled coldly:

“You should be thankful I’m not as reckless as I used to be.”

His face devoid of emotion, Shen Fei stared at Zhang Gui as if he were already a corpse.

    Then—

    “Thud!”

Shen Fei kneed Zhang Gui hard in the stomach, causing him to gasp and collapse onto the ground.

    Manager Han was utterly shocked.

She couldn’t believe that Shen Fei had attacked Zhang Gui a second time.

But despite what Shen Fei did, she felt an unfamiliar sense of security for the first time.

    “Daddy!”

Their daughter, Shen Jiayue, who had been hiding behind Manager Han, suddenly ran out and clung to Shen Fei’s leg.

“Daddy, stop! If you hurt him too badly, the police will arrest you. I don’t want to lose you!”

Shen Fei felt warmth in his heart as he gently patted Shen Jiayue’s head and crouched down to her level.

“Don’t worry, Yueyue. Daddy will protect you and Mommy! From now on, no one will bully our family! How could you lose Daddy? Daddy’s strong—anyone who dares to hurt you and Mommy will face the consequences!”

Though his words were directed at Shen Jiayue, Shen Fei intended for Manager Han to hear them.

He wanted her to know that he had changed—he was no longer the cowardly man he used to be!

“Consequences? Damn you! I’ll make sure you face consequences first! I’m calling the police!”

Zhang Gui finally got to his feet, glaring at Shen Fei as he dialed 110.

Manager Han snapped back to reality and quickly pushed Shen Fei.

“Shen Fei, run! Leave this to me!”

“Run? Even if he runs to the ends of the earth, I’ll have the police arrest him!”

Zhang Gui growled, clutching his phone as the call connected.

Shen Fei turned around and calmly looked at Manager Han.

“Take Yueyue home first. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

Seeing the concern in Manager Han’s eyes, Shen Fei felt secretly pleased.

    Meanwhile, at another table—

    “What’s going on over there?”

Seeing the crowd gathering near the window, Jiang Tiancheng asked curiously.

“Don’t tell me you want to stick your nose into this too?”

Hu Yuantai rolled his eyes at him.

Jiang Tiancheng placed his hand on Hu Yuantai’s shoulder and jumped up for a better look.

As soon as he caught sight of the people in the middle of the commotion, he was stunned.

    “Wait a minute… isn’t that…?”

    “What?” Hu Yuantai asked nonchalantly.

“I think that’s Han… Manager Han! What’s she doing here? And who’s that guy with her?”

Jiang Tiancheng’s face darkened, his curiosity piqued.

“You think… could Manager Han be having an affair?”

“Shut up and stop spouting nonsense!”

Ignoring him, Hu Yuantai strode toward the crowd.

Shen Fei had saved his life before, so Hu Yuantai was willing to help Manager Han too.

    “Zhang Gui?”

Hu Yuantai paused when he saw who was involved.

Zhang Gui also stiffened when he noticed Hu Yuantai.

“President Hu! What a coincidence! I was just greeting Manager Han when her husband suddenly attacked me! Look at my face—it’s a mess! President Hu, I’ve already called the police. Please stand by my side when they get here!”

Zhang Gui complained pitifully, confident that Hu Yuantai would back him up.

After all, Zhang Gui’s aunt was married into Hu Yuantai’s family, which had secured his position as president of Zhongtai Trading.

But connections aside, Zhang Gui wasn’t completely useless—his competence had played a role in earning his spot as president.

Otherwise, given Hu Yuantai’s strict nature, Zhang Gui wouldn’t have kept his job for long.
