Make Money C14
by MarineTLChapter 14: This Boss Has Ulterior Motives
The living room fell silent.
Seeing this, the look of anticipation on Dong Hong’s face gradually turned into disappointment.
She had learned about this job fair from a colleague and thought that Yang Dahai would find a job there. But now, judging by his silence, she knew he hadn’t.
Yang Dahai sighed when he saw his wife’s disappointed expression.
“It’s not that I didn’t find anything. There is a job, but I feel like it’s a bit unreliable.”
“What kind of job? It’s not manual labor, is it? That won’t do. Your back can’t handle it. Have you forgotten? The last time you took a job at a construction site, you ended up lying at home for half a month.”
Dong Hong said anxiously.
Yang Dahai quickly explained, “It’s not manual labor. It’s my old profession—driving.”
“Then isn’t that perfect?”
“But this job…”
Yang Dahai explained everything in detail.
“A monthly salary of 8,000, plus full benefits, and the boss is the young man who just moved in upstairs. It does sound a little unreliable.”
After hearing her husband’s explanation, Dong Hong fell into deep thought.
“How about we ask Yaoyao? She knows more about these things.”
“Forget it. It’s late now, and she’s probably still studying. Let’s not bother her.”
Yang Dahai stopped her.
“I’ll go to the company tomorrow and take a look. I’ll know if it’s real or not once I see it for myself.”
“That works.”
Dong Hong nodded and reminded him, “You can check it out, but if they ask you to pay any fees, don’t agree. I’ve heard that companies that ask for money upfront are all scams.”
“I know.”
Nighttime, Jiangcheng University, Girls’ Dormitory.
Shen Rou returned to the dorm after finishing her part-time job, looking utterly exhausted.
“Rou Rou, didn’t you go to the job fair today? Why did you still go to your part-time job?”
Her roommate, Zhang Lan, sat up on her bed.
“I went straight to my part-time job after the job fair.”
Shen Rou casually placed her backpack on the desk and collapsed into her chair.
“You really work yourself to the bone for money. How was the job fair? Based on your resume’s requirements, I doubt you got any offers. Prepaid salary? No way. Bosses these days are all stingy.”
Shen Rou rested her chin on her palm, looking troubled as she placed a slightly crumpled piece of paper on the desk.
“There was one company that agreed to a prepaid salary.”
“That’s great! Why do you look so unhappy then?”
Zhang Lan was puzzled by Shen Rou’s troubled expression.
“It just doesn’t feel real. This company not only agreed to pay in advance but was also very generous, offering a salary of 6,000 per month.”
Shen Rou absentmindedly fiddled with the piece of paper, recalling the young interviewer she had met. He didn’t seem like a scammer.
“They’re offering 6,000 for a mere intern? This boss is way too generous.”
“Let me see what company it is.”
Zhang Lan exclaimed in surprise.
“It’s here.”
Shen Rou pointed to the piece of paper on the table.
Zhang Lan eagerly got out of bed and picked it up.
Only a company name and an address were written on it—Changfeng Garment Co., Ltd.
Zhang Lan read the name out loud and immediately grabbed her phone to look up the company’s information.
After a while, she looked up and said, “The records show that this company has only about 30 employees. Not long ago, the legal representative changed, meaning the company got a new owner.”
“There’s no record of any illegal operations, but for a private company of this size, there’s absolutely no reason to hire an assistant at 6,000 per month. It doesn’t make sense.”
“Exactly! I don’t understand either. Why would such a company need an assistant?”
Shen Rou frowned.
“I know why!”
Zhang Lan suddenly raised her voice.
“Why?”
“The company’s boss must be interested in your looks and wants to keep you as his mistress!”
“Our Rou Rou is so beautiful, it must be that!”
Zhang Lan moved closer to Shen Rou, playfully tilting her chin up and grinning.
“As they say, ‘When there’s work, the secretary does it; when there’s no work…’”
“What nonsense are you talking about? I only saw a young interviewer, not the boss!”
Shen Rou slapped Zhang Lan’s hand away in exasperation.
Seeing that Shen Rou wasn’t in the mood for jokes, Zhang Lan dropped the act and asked seriously, “So, are you going tomorrow or not?”
“I’ve decided to go and take a look.”
After a brief hesitation, Shen Rou made up her mind.
“Then be careful. Call me when you get there. I don’t have a good feeling about this.”
Zhang Lan reminded her. She didn’t believe a small private company would need an assistant, but she also knew how much Shen Rou needed this job, so she didn’t try to stop her.
The Next Day
Chen Mo arrived at the company early in the morning.
“Good morning, President Chen!”
“Good morning, President Chen!”
One by one, employees greeted him respectfully as they passed by.
Chen Mo smiled and responded as he walked into his office.
Feeling bored, he thought about playing a game on his computer to pass the time. But the old office computer was so slow that it couldn’t even run a game properly.
Wait a minute!
The computers could be upgraded too!
Chen Mo suddenly thought of another way to spend money.
With such outdated computers, how were employees supposed to work? They had to be replaced with high-end ones!
Since he had bought twelve sets of desks and chairs yesterday, that meant he needed twelve new computers as well. And of course, they had to be the best available.
He wasn’t sure how much money twelve high-end computers would cost, but it was a good excuse to give Wei Yan something to do. He could send him to check out the computer market.
Chen Mo shook his head, sighing.
Wei Yan was the most unruly employee in the company. He was either trying to bring in clients to make money or haggling for discounts to save the company money.
Such an improper work attitude needed to be corrected immediately.
Sure enough, before long, Wei Yan knocked on the office door and entered.
“President Chen, the desks and chairs have been purchased. They’ll be delivered soon.”
“Here’s the purchase receipt.”
He handed a receipt to Chen Mo.
Chen Mo took it and checked the final amount, nodding in satisfaction.
Good.
It was purchased at full price.
“Well done.”
“Thank you, President Chen.”
Wei Yan was taken aback. He hadn’t expected President Chen to praise him.
Even when he brought in the company’s first order, he hadn’t received a compliment.
“By the way, do you have anything else to do later?”
Chen Mo asked suddenly.
“I was planning to visit some clients and see if I could bring in more orders. The last batch of orders is almost finished. If we don’t get new ones soon, the workshop might have to halt production.”
Wei Yan answered honestly.
Last night, when he and Li Shen were selling clothes at the night market, Li Shen had mentioned it, so he planned to meet some clients today to try and secure new orders.
