    Chapter 311: A Small Goal

Chen Mo looked warily at Fang Chang as he walked in.

    “Is there something you need?”

That smile on Fang Chang’s face felt oddly familiar, and not in a good way.

“President Chen, I’ve got some good news. I was going to write up a report, but then I thought, since you’re just upstairs, I might as well come tell you in person.”

Fang Chang sat down in the chair across from Chen Mo’s desk, his face barely able to contain his excitement.

Seeing Fang Chang’s cheerful expression only made Chen Mo feel a stronger sense of foreboding. What these employees considered “good news” rarely ever turned out to be good for him. Who knew what kind of mess Fang Chang had stirred up this time?

Chen Mo forced himself to stay calm and looked at the man sitting across from him.

“So, what exactly is this ‘good news’?”

“Well, President Chen, you know how the Sky Pavilion Club has been hosting the offline tournament for Extreme Survival, right? We partnered with a few live streaming platforms to broadcast the tournament live.”

“Now that the tournament has reached the semifinals, the live streams have become incredibly popular with viewers across all the platforms.”

“And once those platforms saw how well Extreme Survival was doing, they started reaching out to us, asking for the rights to stream it.”

As soon as Fang Chang said that, Chen Mo had a bad feeling. If they were asking for streaming rights, there was no way Fang Chang and his team would be giving them out for free.

Sure enough, Fang Chang continued enthusiastically.

“Since they wanted licensing rights, of course we had to charge a fee. After several rounds of negotiation, we settled on a licensing price—30 million per year.”

Fang Chang was practically glowing with excitement.

At first, when they refused to sell the rights outright, those top-tier streaming platforms had only offered 25 million for the license. But after a few days of the tournament, the streams were pulling in millions of viewers daily, and the numbers were still climbing.

Once they saw the momentum, Fang Chang and Wei Yan discussed it and decided to raise the licensing fee to 30 million.

The platforms, seeing how popular Extreme Survival had become, didn’t push back much. They quickly agreed to the new price.

Just yesterday, they had signed licensing contracts with four streaming platforms. The licensing fees would be transferred to Cangxue Games’ account in the next few days.

Of course, Tiger Head Live wasn’t charged the full 30 million. Since they had been long-time partners and had played a big role in Extreme Survival’s rapid rise in popularity, they were only charged 10 million.

Initially, Fang Chang and Wei Yan had planned to give Tiger Head Live a free one-year license, but Du Ziteng firmly objected. He said Tiger Head Live might be his father’s company, but it had nothing to do with him. Business was business, and they should still charge a fee—no exceptions.

Fang Chang couldn’t quite understand that logic. If it’s your dad’s company, isn’t it basically yours too? But seeing how adamant Du Ziteng was, he didn’t press the issue.

    Fine, charge them then.

Who would say no to money anyway? And in the end, they didn’t charge much—just 10 million.

Regardless of what kind of relationship Du Ziteng had with his family, they had to show some sincerity on their end. That way, future collaborations would be smoother and more convenient.

“How many platforms did you license it to in total?”

Chen Mo swallowed hard, his throat moving twice as he stared at the smiling Fang Chang.

“Four so far. And like I said, Tiger Head Live only paid 10 million because of our existing partnership and their role in promoting Extreme Survival. So the total licensing revenue comes out to exactly 100 million.”

“But President Chen, a few smaller streaming platforms have also reached out to us. They’re interested, but the 30 million price tag is making them hesitate, so nothing’s been finalized yet. Still, if Extreme Survival keeps up this level of popularity, those smaller platforms with enough financial backing will definitely want to buy the streaming rights too.”

Fang Chang explained further. This was something he and Wei Yan had predicted. If Extreme Survival maintained its momentum, it would attract more and more viewers—maybe even a whole wave of “cloud players” who just watched instead of playing.

But if your live streaming platform isn’t able to broadcast Extreme Survival, you’re definitely going to lose a huge chunk of your audience.

Four platforms have already paid a total of 100 million for the streaming rights.

And there are still other platforms that might want to purchase the streaming license for Extreme Survival.

As Fang Chang spoke, Chen Mo felt a wave of dizziness. How was this good news? This was a disaster—an absolute catastrophe!

    “President Chen, are you alright?”

Fang Chang looked at Chen Mo’s dark expression, a bit concerned.

But in his heart, he thought, Wei Yan was right after all. President Chen really doesn’t show any excitement over things like this.

The way President Chen looked now was exactly as Wei Yan had predicted.

According to Wei Yan, President Chen didn’t want to appear too pleased and risk letting them get carried away. That’s why he would deliberately maintain a serious expression.

As expected, Wei Yan truly understood President Chen better than anyone.

    “I’m fine.”

Chen Mo snapped back to his senses and forced himself to calm down.

The deals that had already been signed couldn’t be changed, but for those that hadn’t—he wouldn’t be signing any more.

Thirty million per platform… a few more, and that’s another “small goal” reached.

“If any more live streaming platforms come asking for the rights, just turn them down.”

    “What?!”

“President Chen, if we refuse them, we’ll be missing out on a lot of licensing revenue.”

Fang Chang hadn’t expected President Chen to outright reject further licensing deals. Wasn’t that just leaving money on the table?

Chen Mo looked at Fang Chang, thought for a moment, and said meaningfully,

“You have to think long-term. If you license Extreme Survival to too many platforms, how do you think the four that already signed contracts will feel? Are we saying that the rights to Extreme Survival are that cheap? Ever heard the saying ‘scarcity creates value’?”

“If you give out the streaming rights to everyone, then those rights become worthless.”

“That’s final. If any other platforms come asking, just turn them down.”

Seeing that Fang Chang was still hesitating, Chen Mo made the decision on the spot.

Fang Chang left the CEO’s office with lingering doubts. He felt that the reasoning President Chen gave was a bit flimsy. Could there be something else behind it?

    After thinking it over,

Instead of returning to his own office at Cangxue Games, he went straight to Wei Yan’s.

As the person in the company who understood President Chen best, he needed to hear what Wei Yan had to say.
