“He’s not some big shot, just someone I happened to meet, Mr. Jiang and Mr. Duan,” Shen Fei said, speaking with indifference and distance before either Jiang Tiancheng or Duan Guxiang could say anything.
“How could that be! Mr. Zhang specifically went down to greet you! Even Mr. Duan looked so anxious when he saw you! Brother, just tell us directly! We won’t look down on you!” The man said, his smile insincere.
“Shit, Xu Jinhao, are you looking for trouble? Why ask so many questions? What’s it to you who he is? If he’s some big official, are you going to kneel and call him ‘Daddy’? Or if he’s a minor official, are you trying to step on him? You look so cheap, can’t even take a look at yourself!” Jiang Tiancheng retorted.
“Wow, I was just asking, what’s the deal? Jiang Young Master, are you attacking me personally?” Xu Jinhao was also no pushover, and he felt awkward after Jiang Tiancheng’s sharp words.
“No, you’re wrong! Personal attacks require at least you being a person first!” Jiang Tiancheng taunted.
The tension between the two was palpable.
Shen Fei noticed that Jiang Tiancheng seemed to have some grudge against this man.
“Come on, we’re all from the same circle, no need to make things awkward,” Duan Guxiang quickly intervened with a smile, sensing the rising conflict.
“Awkward? I don’t want to talk to the lapdog of Kong Fuwen! Back when the Kong family was still thriving, this guy Xu Jinhao was trying to please Kong Fuwen, badmouthing me everywhere! It’s like he wanted to dig up their family’s grave!” Jiang Tiancheng spoke angrily.
Duan Guxiang froze, clearly unaware of this history between them.
“Jiang Young Master, if this bothers you, I’ll apologize!” Xu Jinhao’s face shifted through several expressions before he finally yielded.
After all, the Kong Group’s downfall was a huge affair, and many speculated that Old Mayor Jiang Anbang played an important role. That’s why everyone had to be cautious around Jiang Tiancheng.
“Don’t play tricks on me! Do you think I need your apology? Just get lost! Don’t show your face in front of me!” Jiang Tiancheng snapped.
“Fine, I won’t bother you anymore,” Xu Jinhao quickly withdrew, though his unwillingness was clear, but due to the circumstances, he had no choice but to suppress his anger.
Once Xu Jinhao left, Shen Fei couldn’t help but ask, “What happened there?”
“It’s not a big deal. When the Kong family was still powerful, Xu Jinhao, that guy, he was just a sycophant. To please Kong Fuwen, he kept throwing shade at me behind my back. It was like he was out to ruin me!” Jiang Tiancheng said in a low voice.
“Now the Kong family has fallen, and Xu Jinhao has no support. People are saying my father pushed things along, so now no one dares mess with me. Probably, he’s realized that and decided to back off,” Jiang Tiancheng continued, then laughed and added, “You see how stupid these people are! If my dad knew I was using his power to bully others, he’d break my legs. These guys really have no brains!”
Shen Fei could only smile helplessly. What Jiang Tiancheng said was true; if he had acted like Kong Fuwen, Jiang Anbang would have indeed punished him.
“So, what’s Xu Jinhao’s background?” Shen Fei asked, puzzled.
“His father is the deputy director of the prosecutor’s office! Sounds impressive, but it’s just an honorary position. He doesn’t have real power. Otherwise, Xu Jinhao would have been flaunting it all over town and not sucking up to every powerful second-generation kid he meets,” Jiang Tiancheng mocked, glancing over at Xu Jinhao who was still laughing and chatting with others across the room.
He turned to Duan Guxiang and said, “Old Duan, not to criticize, but you’re throwing a party and inviting people, why’d you bring this dog along?”
“Your mouth really doesn’t spare anyone! If I knew you two had this kind of bad blood, I would’ve never let you meet here!” Duan Guxiang sighed. “I don’t know much about the situation in Deep City, but this is about networking, right? He’s here, and I couldn’t exactly kick him out.”
“Alright, I’m not going to mess up your networking. If Kong Fuwen’s here, talk to him. It’s all my business; I’m just about loyalty!” Jiang Tiancheng said with a proud look on his face.
“Let’s go, Fei, we’ll introduce you to others!” he added.
“Alright,” Shen Fei agreed, not wanting to refuse Jiang Tiancheng’s offer.
The gathering had people with billions in assets, as well as second-generation officials from various social strata.
Everyone in Deep City who had power and money was present.
Shen Fei, called “Brother Fei” by Jiang Tiancheng, noticed that despite his modest attire, the second-generation heirs gave him contemptuous looks. However, they were still polite, all because of Jiang Tiancheng’s status.
Jiang Tiancheng had the face of a young master; those who didn’t want to make enemies with him ignored Shen Fei altogether. But this didn’t bother Jiang Tiancheng in the slightest.
The atmosphere in the living room became awkward.
Just then, the door opened again, and three people slowly entered.
The leader was Zhou Zhengji, the son of the district mayor of the Junyue Pavilion area, followed by Jin Liyao, the son of the head of the Deep City Tax Bureau, and Jia Tong, the young master of Tongle Group, the biggest Porsche dealership in Deep City.
“What’s this guy doing here?” Jiang Tiancheng frowned when he saw Jia Tong.
“I don’t know. My dad owns an Audi and a Benz, both parked next to his. I really don’t want to meet him,” Duan Guxiang said with a worried sigh.
“What the hell? Your family’s really sandwiching him between the two cars?” Jiang Tiancheng asked, confused. “Are you sure you’re not doing this to stir up trouble?”
“If you want to blame someone, blame Jia Tong’s dad. If he hadn’t been so rude, saying my dad was a nouveau riche, this wouldn’t have happened. But you know, my dad’s business is doing better than his now!” Duan Guxiang said with a playful smile.
Jiang Tiancheng couldn’t help but twitch his mouth at Duan Guxiang’s words.
“Fine, Jia Tong’s your mess. You deal with him!”
“I can’t help it!” Duan Guxiang shrugged, smiling helplessly.
Shen Fei stood still, watching the scene unfold. He had a strong feeling that something bad was about to happen.
And this time, it truly was his sixth sense kicking in.
“Fei, do you know these guys?” Hu Yuantai asked, noticing Shen Fei’s expression.
“No, I don’t know them. Who are they?” Shen Fei asked.
“The one leading is Zhou Zhengji, the son of the district chief here. The guy on the right is Jin Liyao, the son of a high-ranking official in Deep City’s municipal government. You should know about him, since he’s close with Jiang Shengcai. He’s a playboy, though, always trying to get close to young women,” Jiang Tiancheng said, scoffing.
“As for the other one, Jia Tong, the young master of Tongle Group. His family owns all the Porsche dealerships around here. This fool thinks he’s some big deal just because he has some money!” Jiang Tiancheng said, sneering at him.
