Chapter 87: The Whole Family Is Nothing Good!

Carrying a bowl of soup, Li Li returned to the dining table.

“Uncle, Auntie, could it be that Brother-in-law Lixin is about to strike it rich?”

As soon as these words came out, Zhang Xiulian and Han Jian froze mid-bite.

    Strike it rich?

That man addicted to drinking and gambling?

    Impossible!

In fact, they had always believed that the 500,000 yuan in the bank account was money Shen Fei won through gambling. For someone like him who couldn’t hold onto a penny, how could he possibly “strike it rich”?

“Li Li, why would you ask that?” Han Xinyan asked curiously.

“Well, just now when I went to get soup, I overheard that Shen Fei was on the phone with someone named ‘President Jiang,’ talking about tens of millions and even billions! And he even acted like he didn’t care whether the deal happened or not. I just thought, could he have gotten lucky somehow?” Li Li said playfully.

However, hearing this, Han Xinyan only felt embarrassed.

She couldn’t understand why Shen Fei was putting on such a show—what was the point?

Zhang Xiulian scoffed loudly at Li Li’s words, further dismissing Shen Fei.

“That useless man? Tens of millions? Billions? What does that have to do with him? If it weren’t for your sake, I’d have kicked that bum out long ago!”

“Auntie, don’t say that. Whether you like it or not, he still calls you ‘mother-in-law’!” Li Li said, covering her mouth with a sarcastic smile.

Before Zhang Xiulian could reply, Han Jian angrily spoke up.

“He can call whatever he wants! Doesn’t mean we accept him as a son-in-law!”

“Exactly!” Zhang Xiulian chimed in. “Li Li, when you marry into our family, just pretend he doesn’t exist!”

Li Li sneered, her words laced with sarcasm. “Honestly, if Brother Lixin is so capable, why didn’t he stand up to help your family earlier? Anyone listening to that phone call would think he was showing off just for my benefit.”

Her mocking tone finally made Han Xinyan lose her patience. She stood up abruptly and walked out to the balcony.

At the same time, Shen Fei ended his call with Jiang Rou.

Jiang Rou had exploded in anger after Shen Fei casually demanded over 840 million yuan, accusing him of being greedy. But Shen Fei had quickly hung up the phone before she could curse him out further.

Noticing Han Xinyan’s angry expression, Shen Fei asked, “Did they bully you?”

“No! What were you just saying about millions and billions?” Han Xinyan asked, holding back her irritation.

Hearing this, Shen Fei blinked in surprise. “You heard that?”

“No, it was Li Li who overheard!” Han Xinyan said angrily.

Hearing that, Shen Fei chuckled softly.

“What are you laughing at?” Han Xinyan asked, confused by his reaction.

“Li Li really enjoys stirring things up in our already messy family,” Shen Fei said helplessly. He hadn’t noticed her listening earlier.

Realizing this, Han Xinyan also grew frustrated. Every time Li Li visited, she either stirred trouble or ridiculed their family.

They shared a knowing look before heading back inside.

“Daddy, Mommy, I want to go home!”

Shen Jiayue, having finished her meal, cheered excitedly.

“You little brat! Just like your father—eat and run! Hurry up and leave!” Zhang Xiulian snapped harshly.

“Mom, what are you yelling at Yueyue for?” Han Lixin protested angrily, waving to the little girl. “Yueyue, come sit with Uncle.”

The little girl’s bright eyes darted between Zhang Xiulian and Han Lixin but remained quietly seated.

“Come on, Yueyue, let’s go!” Han Xinyan said firmly, no longer polite to Zhang Xiulian or Han Jian.

Before leaving, she looked at Han Lixin seriously. “Lixin, from now on, don’t always call me to come home.”

“When you get married, I’ll give you a big red envelope, but for everything else—just say what you need!”

“I got it, Sis,” Han Lixin said, his eyes reddening as he spoke.

Ignoring Zhang Xiulian’s anger, Han Xinyan calmly left the house with Shen Fei and Shen Jiayue.

Watching the three of them leave, Han Lixin sat in silence, questioning the meaning of marriage. Was he really willing to empty his family’s savings just to marry Li Li? What would he do if she made even more unreasonable demands in the future?

Not long after, Li Li, having achieved her goal, also said her goodbyes. Zhang Xiulian and Han Jian eagerly escorted her to a taxi with exaggerated enthusiasm.

Back in their apartment, Zhang Xiulian, feeling content, spoke up. “Lixin, we’ll meet with Li Li’s parents soon and finalize the wedding.”

“Let’s wait and see,” Han Lixin replied, his desire to marry Li Li starting to waver.

“What do you mean wait and see? Do you think Li Li’s family will keep waiting for you? What if they change their minds?” Zhang Xiulian shouted, now panicked.

“So what if they do? Look at what our family has become because of her! Fine, I’ll give her the bride price. And I agree to buy the house and pay the mortgage. But using all your savings for just the down payment?

“I don’t care whether Li Li still wants to marry me or not, but I don’t want to anymore! I’m marrying a wife, not some high-and-mighty princess. If I drain my family dry, what kind of man am I? I refuse to believe that I can’t find a better woman than her!”

Letting out all the anger he’d been holding back, Han Lixin finally felt relieved. But Zhang Xiulian refused to understand.

“Han Lixin! Let me make this clear—I’ll accept no one but Li Li as my daughter-in-law!”

In her mind, Li Li was beautiful, had a decent job, and was knowledgeable. Bringing her into the family would be a great source of pride.

    On the road.

“We shouldn’t have gone back there today,” Han Xinyan said angrily.

“What do you mean?” Shen Fei asked.

“I wanted you and Lixin to mend your relationship, but instead, we got all this nonsense.”

She was still upset about Zhang Xiulian, Han Jian, and Li Li’s mocking attitude.

“Don’t worry about it. It’s been so many years—I’m used to it,” Shen Fei said, smiling as he changed the topic. “What do you think about Li Li as a person?”

“Well… not great. But as long as Lixin likes her, that’s what matters. Even though he says a lot of dumb things in front of us, he’s like a little kitten in front of Li Li,” Han Xinyan replied with a small laugh.

Seeing her mood lighten, Shen Fei smiled too.

“Yueyue, do you want to go to the amusement park with Mommy and Daddy?” Shen Fei asked.

From her seat, Shen Jiayue cheered excitedly. “Yes! Yueyue wants to go!”

    At QianKun Group.

Meanwhile, Jiang Rou stormed into the secretary’s office.

“Secretary You, I’m in trouble again!”

Despite being a company president, Jiang Rou had found herself repeatedly bested by Shen Fei.
