Make Money C56
by MarineTLChapter 56: When I Grow Up, I Want to Work at Brother’s Company Too
“Big Sister Shen!”
“Big Sister Shen!”
“……”
A group of children ran forward, calling out excitedly.
In no time, they rushed to the front gate and surrounded Shen Rou.
“Big Sister Shen, it’s been so long since you last visited us.”
“Big Sister Shen, I missed you so much!”
“…….”
“I’ve been quite busy recently, but look what I brought for you today.”
Shen Rou gazed at the children around her with a gentle smile, leading them toward a small mountain of gifts.
“Wow! So many presents!”
“Big Sister Shen, are all these for us?”
“…….”
The children eagerly examined the pile of gifts, their little eyes sparkling with excitement.
But despite their enthusiasm, not a single child reached out to take a gift without permission.
“Xiao Rou, it’s already wonderful that you’re back. Why bring so many things? You spent too much!”
Suddenly—
An elderly woman walked over, looking at Shen Rou with mild reproach.
“Grandma Wu, I haven’t visited in a long time. Besides, these are just small things, they didn’t cost much.”
Seeing the elderly woman, Shen Rou quickly ran over, affectionately holding her arm.
“You!”
Grandma Wu sighed helplessly.
“You little rascals, stop just standing there staring. Hurry up and bring everything inside!”
“Oh, time to move the presents!”
“I’m carrying the biggest one!”
“I can carry three at once!”
Hearing Grandma Wu’s words, the children scrambled to carry the gifts inside.
Chen Mo wanted to help but found no opportunity to intervene.
“Xiao Rou, aren’t you going to introduce this young man?”
Once the children had gone inside the orphanage, Grandma Wu turned her gaze to Chen Mo, scrutinizing him.
“Grandma Wu, this is Chen Mo, my boss.”
“And this is Grandma Wu, whom I mentioned in the car.”
Shen Rou introduced them with a smile.
“So you’re Xiao Rou’s boss. Thank you for taking care of her during this time.”
Grandma Wu’s face was full of gratitude. She knew Shen Rou had recently joined a new company and was earning a good salary.
Now, hearing that the young man in front of her was the company’s owner, she quickly expressed her thanks.
“Grandma Wu, no need to thank me. Shen Rou is very capable—our company’s growth depends on her.”
Chen Mo shook his head humbly.
Hearing this, Shen Rou blushed slightly.
Her daily tasks were just basic assistant work—any experienced assistant could do them.
Although she was constantly learning, she still had a long way to go before becoming an elite assistant.
Chen Mo was exaggerating her abilities too much.
But Grandma Wu, unaware of this, smiled proudly at the praise.
“Xiao Rou has always been smart—she’s the first college graduate from this orphanage.”
“Alright, let’s not stand around here. Come inside.”
…
“You two keep the children company. I’ll go prepare lunch.”
Once inside the orphanage, Grandma Wu led them to a classroom before turning to leave.
“Grandma Wu, I’ll help!”
Shen Rou hurriedly chased after her.
“Help with what? You’re going to leave him alone with the children?”
Grandma Wu said gruffly, gesturing toward Chen Mo in the classroom.
“But can you manage everything on your own?”
“Wasn’t I managing just fine before you arrived? It’s just two extra mouths to feed.”
“Go back inside.”
Impatiently, Grandma Wu pushed Shen Rou back into the classroom.
“Weren’t you going to help?”
Chen Mo asked, puzzled, as Shen Rou returned.
“Oh, Grandma Wu said she can handle it and doesn’t need me.”
Shen Rou responded while watching the children playing in the room.
“Big Sister Shen, who is this big brother?”
Suddenly—
A little girl, about five or six years old, ran up, looking at Chen Mo curiously.
“This is Brother Chen. He’s also my boss!”
Shen Rou crouched down and whispered to the little girl.
The girl bit her finger and asked in confusion,
“What’s a boss?”
“A boss is someone who pays me my salary.”
Shen Rou gently ruffled the little girl’s hair, patiently explaining.
“Oh, I see! Then, Brother Chen, can you be my boss too?”
The little girl looked up at Chen Mo, her face full of hope.
Amused, Chen Mo crouched down and asked with a smile,
“What’s your name?”
“My name is Dong Yue’er. You can call me Yue’er, Brother!”
“Can you tell me why you want me to be your boss?”
“Because if Brother becomes my boss, you can pay me a salary, and then I can buy gifts for my little brothers and sisters!”
Dong Yue’er said happily.
“Yue’er is still young. You need to focus on studying. Once you graduate from college, you can come work at my company, okay?”
Chen Mo chuckled, finding the children rather endearing.
“Then let’s pinky swear! When I graduate from college, you have to be my boss!”
The little girl stretched out her tiny hand, making a pinky promise gesture.
Chen Mo smiled and extended his own pinky. Their fingers hooked together.
“Pinky swear, hang it high, a hundred years, no change. Whoever breaks it is a little dog!”
“Stamp it!”
Their thumbs pressed together in a final seal.
After playing with the children for a while longer, Chen Mo and Shen Rou left the classroom.
“I didn’t expect you to get along so well with kids.”
Walking down the hallway, Shen Rou looked at Chen Mo in surprise.
The way he had played with the children earlier was nothing like a typical boss.
“They’re quite adorable.”
Chen Mo smiled.
Of course, there was something else he hadn’t mentioned.
Before he transmigrated to this world, he had also been an orphan.
Seeing these children reminded him of his past self.
But he was lucky—he got a second chance at life and now had a loving family.
Speaking of which, it had been a while since he last visited home.
Once he finished dealing with company matters, he should make time to go back.
“Let me show you around the orphanage.”
Shen Rou thought for a moment before suggesting.
And so, the two wandered through the orphanage.
Eventually, they stopped on the third floor.
“This is where the children’s dormitories are. Come, I’ll show you.”
With that, Shen Rou pushed open a dormitory door and stepped inside.
Chen Mo followed, taking in the room’s simple layout.
Inside, there were only two wooden beds. Neatly arranged under each bed were washbasins and slippers.
However, the beds were extremely worn-out. Some of the bed legs had already broken and were being propped up with bricks.
Chen Mo frowned at the sight.
On the way here, he had already learned from Shen Rou that the orphanage’s situation wasn’t great, but he hadn’t expected it to be this impoverished.
He thought for a moment and focused his consciousness on his system panel.
He wanted to see if the system funds could be used for charity.
