Chapter 30: The System Begins Settlement, Wei Yan’s Little Maneuver

Yang Dahai had no idea what his wife was thinking. When he heard her scolding, he looked innocent and couldn’t help but explain.

“I didn’t expect it either. Boss Chen barely drank a bottle of alcohol, and he was already like this.”

“You’re still making excuses? As the boss’s personal driver, you don’t even know his alcohol tolerance? That’s your negligence.”

Hearing Yang Dahai’s explanation, Dong Hong instantly got upset and glared at him fiercely.

Seeing this, Yang Dahai chuckled sheepishly.

His years of experience told him that if he dared to argue now, he would definitely be the one to suffer.

Seeing that Yang Dahai didn’t continue the debate, Dong Hong didn’t press the matter further. She turned and walked toward the kitchen.

“Keep an eye on him. I’ll go make some hangover soup.”

    Early morning.

Sunlight streamed onto the bed, leaving tiny golden specks.

Chen Mo rubbed his aching head and slowly opened his eyes.

As his memories of last night gradually surfaced, his expression turned awkward.

    Damn it.

I actually forgot that I can’t handle alcohol.

It’s all their fault for toasting me so much. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have given in and drunk a few cups.

Who was the first to toast me?

Chen Mo seriously thought about it and slowly recalled Li Shen’s face.

    Was it him?

Chen Mo had a good impression of Li Shen. The guy had always been obedient.

Unlike that rebellious Wei Yan, who was constantly trying to bring in orders for the company, making it harder for him to spend money.

    Right—

Wei Yan didn’t attend the dinner last night. Could it be that he was up to something again?

Startled, Chen Mo quickly checked the system panel in his mind. Seeing that the system funds were still the same few hundred yuan as last night, he let out a sigh of relief.

    But he was still uneasy.

He picked up his phone and made a call.

“Hello, Boss Chen? You’re looking for me?”

Wei Yan’s voice came from the other end.

Hearing that the call had gone through, Chen Mo asked directly,

“I just want to check—did you receive any new orders last night? And what about today?”

“No new orders yet. But don’t worry, Boss Chen, I’ll definitely work hard to bring in more business for the company.”

“Oh, right, there’s one more thing—”

Before Wei Yan could finish speaking, he realized the call had already been hung up.

Looking at his phone, he thought for a moment and then put it away.

    Forget it.

I’ll report to Boss Chen in person when I get back to the company.

Anyway, all the stockpiled clothes have been sold. There’s no rush. Besides, I need to tally up the total sales over the past few days. I’ll transfer the money to the company’s account once it’s done.

Upstairs, Chen Mo hung up with an annoyed expression.

That rebellious guy is still thinking about bringing in more orders—he’s really trying to mess with me.

But fortunately, no new orders have come in. That means this time, the system’s settlement should go through successfully.

    Knock, knock, knock…

    A series of knocks sounded.

Chen Mo walked to the door and glanced outside. Not seeing anyone, he already had a guess in mind. He reached out and opened the door.

Sure enough, a small figure was standing by the doorway.

“Brother, Mom told me to bring this to you.”

Yang Duoduo spoke as she stretched out her hands, offering a bag to Chen Mo.

Chen Mo took the bag, ruffled Yang Duoduo’s small head, and said softly,

    “Thanks, Duoduo.”

    “Hehe, then I’m heading back!”

Yang Duoduo giggled, then dashed downstairs.

Back inside the room, Chen Mo looked at the table—there were neatly made buns and a bowl of stomach-soothing soup.

    His heart was touched.

Ever since he had hired Yang Dahai and his wife at the company and given them good salaries, their family had always found little ways to show their gratitude.

After finishing breakfast quickly, Yang Dahai drove him to the company.

    “Good morning, Boss Chen.”

Shen Rou was wiping down the office desk when she saw Chen Mo walk in. She greeted him politely.

    “Morning.”

Chen Mo nodded and walked straight to his desk.

Looking at the system panel in his mind, he couldn’t help but smile.

    > [Host: Chen Mo]

    [System Funds: 385/2,000,000]

    [Personal Assets: 1,993]

[Settlement Cycle: Two weeks (Countdown: 3 hours…)]

Only three hours left until settlement—he was finally about to become a millionaire!

This time, Chen Mo was full of confidence. After all, Wei Yan hadn’t taken any new orders, so there wouldn’t be any surprise payments ruining the settlement.

Feeling great, he turned on his computer to look for a game to play.

But this time, he was much more careful in his selection.

He didn’t want to encounter another game like Heavenly Dragon(Tianlong), where some rich guy had crushed him and mocked him ruthlessly.

Just thinking about it made him mad.

When I get rich, I’m definitely going back for revenge.

    In the warehouse.

Li Shen walked in and saw Wei Yan waiting there. He approached and asked,

“Brother Yan, you were looking for me?”

“Yeah. The leftover stock from last night is completely sold out now. We should tally up the total sales from the past few days. Once we finish, we’ll send the total amount to Boss Chen.”

    “Alright.”

Li Shen nodded and joined Wei Yan in calculating the revenue from their clothing sales.

After a while, they both stared at the final number on the calculator.

    “Seventy thousand. Not bad.”

Wei Yan commented lightly. The warehouse had originally been filled with over ten thousand returned clothes. Selling them at the night market for five to ten yuan each, making seventy thousand in sales, was pretty decent.

More importantly, these were all defective returns that would have just gathered dust in the warehouse otherwise. Now, they had not only cleared up storage space but also brought in some money.

“Alright, I’ll transfer this to the company account. Just wait for the good news.”

Wei Yan said as he got up to leave, thinking to himself:

Boss Chen will be really happy when he sees that we managed to make this much from unsellable stock.

Watching the countdown tick down, Chen Mo happily played his game, even humming a tune:

“Beyond the mountains, beyond the seas, there’s a group of Smurfs. They are lively and smart, mischievous and quick…”

Shen Rou, sitting at her desk, occasionally glanced at him.

Boss Chen seems really happy today. Did something good happen?

Also, this song sounds so cheerful. I’ve never heard it before. Maybe I should ask him about it later—if I visit the orphanage again, I can sing it for the kids.

Chen Mo kept an eye on the system panel while playing his game.

Watching the countdown tick away, he felt himself getting closer and closer to becoming a millionaire.

    Ding-dong!

    His phone suddenly buzzed.

Chen Mo instinctively glanced at it—his expression froze in an instant.
