Chapter 18: Go for the Best, Saving Money Is Not an Option

Chen Mo’s expression stiffened. Over 7,000? Was this a joke?

Was Wei Yan out of his mind?!

“Xiao Wei, a 7,000-plus configuration is indeed sufficient for now, but you need to consider the company’s future growth. As the company expands, it might enter other fields, and by then, a 7,000-plus setup may not be enough.”

“So, let’s go with the 43,000 option—twelve units.”

“President Chen, wouldn’t the 43,000 one be too extravagant?”

Wei Yan admitted Chen Mo had a point, but going straight for the highest configuration was completely unnecessary.

Even if they ventured into other fields in the future, a 20,000 setup would be more than enough.

“We’re going with the highest one. No need to say more.”

Chen Mo didn’t give Wei Yan another chance to argue and directly finalized the price.

“Oh, by the way, President Chen, I heard the electronics market will have a discount event in half a month. Should we wait and buy then?”

“No need. The office needs them urgently. Place the order now and have them prepare everything as soon as possible.”

“But I heard the discounts could save a lot of money.”

    “Not necessary.”

Chen Mo spoke calmly and hung up the phone.

This Wei Yan was really giving him a headache.

Wait another half a month? By then, the financials would have already been settled.

Not far away, Shen Rou had been paying attention to Chen Mo. Seeing him hang up with a frustrated face, she was curious.

Who could have made President Chen so upset?

Half an hour later, the first-floor offices were all cleaned up.

“President Chen, everything’s done. What should we do with these old desks and chairs?”

Li Shen walked over and pointed at the furniture they had moved out.

“You guys can handle it. See if anyone in the workshop needs them. If not, contact a second-hand dealer and sell them. Use the money to buy yourselves some cigarettes.”

Chen Mo glanced at the furniture and casually instructed.

They might be old, but they were still in perfect condition—totally usable.

    “Thank you, President Chen!”

Li Shen quickly expressed his gratitude. These desks and chairs would work perfectly as dining tables back home.

Chen Mo nodded, and when he noticed the group of workers behind Li Shen, an idea suddenly struck him.

“By the way, give me the names of those who helped move the desks.”

Li Shen was puzzled but still obeyed and handed over the list.

Chen Mo looked through it, found their bank accounts, and transferred 200 yuan to each person.

These workers had helped with moving furniture, which wasn’t part of their regular job, so paying them extra was only fair.

It wasn’t much—just over 2,000 yuan for all of them combined—but it was better than nothing. He might as well spend what he could.

    “President Chen, this money…”

Li Shen soon received the transfer notification.

“It’s payment for moving the furniture. Don’t worry about it.”

“President Chen, this was just something we should do. We don’t need the extra pay.”

    Li Shen said sincerely.

The other workers chimed in as well.

“President Chen, for such a small task, just let us know in the future. You already let us take the old furniture; there’s no need to give us money too.”

“President Chen, let us return the money. You’ve already been good to us.”

Seeing this, Chen Mo quickly raised a hand to stop their protests.

“This wasn’t part of your job. Your work is in the workshop. That’s why you should be paid for this, and there’s no need to debate it further.”

Hearing this, everyone looked at Chen Mo with admiration.

Life had long worn down their sharp edges. Forget moving office furniture—they had even helped their bosses move houses before.

But in the eyes of their past employers, such tasks were simply expected. They had gotten used to it.

Chen Mo’s approach, however, showed them a level of respect they had never experienced before.

    “Thank you, President Chen!”

Without prior coordination, they all spoke in unison.

Their voices were sincere, coming from the heart.

Chen Mo looked at them and remained silent for a long time before finally waving his hand.

“Alright, that’s enough. Get back to work.”

Hearing this, the workers quietly turned and headed toward the workshop.

Once everyone had left, Yang Dahai approached with a serious expression.

    “Thank you.”

He had also received a transfer just now.

“No need to thank me. It’s your rightful pay.”

Chen Mo shook his head. He hadn’t expected such gratitude for what he did. He simply wanted to spend the system’s funds as efficiently as possible.

“Then why did I get money too? I didn’t even move the furniture!”

Just then, Shen Rou walked over, looking confused.

    Chen Mo cleared his throat.

After a brief hesitation, he said,

“You directed them on where to place the furniture earlier. Even though you didn’t do physical labor, directing is also a form of participation.”

    “Ah?!”

Shen Rou’s mouth opened slightly. She thought back to earlier—she had indeed given a few instructions.

But all she did was tell them to shift the desks a little to the left.

Just a single sentence, and she got paid 200 yuan?

Since when was it this easy to make money?

“Alright, let’s not dwell on this anymore.”

Chen Mo didn’t want to continue discussing it. Leaving behind those words, he turned and walked into his office.

The afternoon passed quickly, and soon it was time to get off work.

    “Yan-ge, you’re back.”

Li Shen greeted as he saw Wei Yan drive into the company.

“Yeah, don’t even mention it. Spent the whole day picking computers for the boss and didn’t meet a single customer.”

    Wei Yan sighed.

“President Chen is good to us. If he asked you to do this, he must have his reasons.”

“I know, I was just talking. Not complaining.”

“But President Chen really is generous—he bought the highest-end office computers, over 40,000 yuan per unit!”

Wei Yan spoke with admiration. That kind of spending was exhilarating.

He recalled the scene at the electronics market when he confirmed the purchase of 12 top-tier computers—the sales rep’s excitement was hilarious in hindsight.

Hearing this, Li Shen nodded in agreement.

“President Chen is really not short on money. You wouldn’t believe it—today, a few of us helped move some desks, and he gave each of us 200 yuan afterward.”

“It’s not about having money. There are plenty of rich bosses, but how many of them go to this extent? I’ve never seen one.”

    “That’s true.”

Li Shen nodded in deep agreement before adding,

“I heard there’s a night market in the north district with lots of street vendors. Let’s check it out tonight.”

“Sounds good. Let’s load up the clothes into the trunk and backseat.”

    Wei Yan nodded.

Before long, the two of them were hauling out the excess inventory from storage and loading it into the car.

Just as they were halfway through, a familiar voice came from behind them.

    “Need a hand?”

Chen Mo looked at the two of them working hard and offered his help.
