Chapter 2: Is a Failing Company Easier to Spend Money On?

    “Right now.”

Hearing Liu Cheng’s question, Chen Mo didn’t hesitate. He picked up his phone, found Liu Cheng’s bank account, and quickly transferred 400,000 yuan.

Such a great opportunity to spend money—how could he let it slip away?

Then, he transferred another 50,000 yuan for attorney fees to Tang Qiu.

As soon as the transfer was completed, he felt a subtle change in the system panel in his mind. He quickly focused his thoughts and checked.

The original 1 million yuan in system funds had now become 550,000.

Now, the question was how to reasonably spend the remaining 550,000 yuan.

It seemed necessary to visit the company to see if there were any places to spend money.

“President Chen, you’re so straightforward. I can tell you’re someone who does big things.”

Seeing the transfer notification on his phone, Liu Cheng was invigorated, his face beaming with a bright smile.

“It’s still early. How about I take you to the factory for the handover?”

Just as he was thinking about visiting the company, Liu Cheng brought it up.

    How thoughtful.

Chen Mo nodded in satisfaction and agreed to Liu Cheng’s invitation. Then, he turned to Tang Qiu.

“Attorney Tang, do you want to come along and take a look?”

    “Sure.”

After some thought, Tang Qiu nodded in agreement. She mainly wanted to see if there were any hidden issues with the company.

If there were, she could at least try to resolve them in her capacity as a lawyer.

After all, the 50,000 yuan she received as an attorney fee seemed too easy—she hadn’t really done anything.

Leaving the café, the three of them headed to the parking lot.

Chen Mo glanced at Liu Cheng’s old van, then turned and got into Tang Qiu’s luxury Mercedes-Benz.

“President Chen, you didn’t drive here?”

Tang Qiu, seeing him sitting in the front passenger seat, asked curiously.

    “I don’t have a car.”

Chen Mo answered truthfully. In this world, his family wasn’t poor, but they weren’t particularly wealthy either.

There wasn’t extra money for him to buy a car.

Tang Qiu’s expression grew even more peculiar. She hadn’t expected that someone who could spend 400,000 to buy a failing company wouldn’t even consider buying himself a car.

She was starting to find young people these days harder and harder to understand.

The car slowly started and followed behind Liu Cheng’s van.

West City Industrial Park, Changfeng Garment Factory

“You guys might not know yet, but the boss has already sold the factory. Today is the day they sign the contract.”

Inside the factory, a dark-skinned young man loudly announced to the dozen or so workers gathered around.

    “How do you know that?”

    One of the workers questioned.

“I overheard it. This morning, when I went to the office to pick up a production schedule, I clearly heard the boss talking about it on the phone.”

Li Shen explained, seeing the skeptical looks on their faces.

As soon as his words fell, the group erupted into discussion—some were doubtful, some panicked, and some were concerned…

“The boss did sell the company, but it has nothing to do with us. It’s just a change of ownership. We’ll keep doing what we’re supposed to do. It won’t affect us at all.”

A deep voice came from the factory entrance.

A man in a white shirt walked in. He looked to be in his early thirties.

“Wei Yan, you’re in sales, so of course, you’re on Liu Cheng’s side.”

Li Shen glared at the approaching man with an unfriendly expression.

    Wei Yan sighed helplessly.

He had already known about the sale two days ago. However, after confirming that the new owner intended to keep the company’s structure intact, he decided to wait until the contract was signed before informing the employees—just to avoid unnecessary panic.

But he hadn’t expected that before the contract was even finalized, the news had already leaked.

Looking at the restless employees, he patiently explained,

“The boss has gone to sign the contract. If all goes smoothly, he should be back soon with the new owner. If there are any changes, you can ask directly when they arrive.”

“Even if what you’re saying is true, tell me—who’s going to pay our wages this month? Liu Cheng, or the new owner?”

Li Shen had already decided to go all out. He didn’t care whether the company was changing owners or not; he just wanted to know who was going to pay his salary for this month. He wasn’t about to work for free.

As for whether this would offend the new boss, so be it.

It wasn’t like this was some amazing job. If things didn’t work out, he could just find another one.

Wei Yan was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t considered the issue of wages.

Logically speaking, Liu Cheng should have cleared the salary payments before signing the contract. But he hadn’t—whether intentionally or because he forgot, Wei Yan didn’t know.

But now that the contract was signed, the company already belonged to someone else.

He had no idea how to answer this question.

After thinking for a moment, he looked at Li Shen.

“That is indeed a valid concern. When the boss returns, we can choose a few representatives to discuss it. But there’s no need to make such a big fuss over it.”

He was an employee, too, and he also needed his salary. But as an adult, he preferred to resolve issues through peaceful discussions.

The vehicle slowly entered West City Industrial Park.

“President Chen, this is our garment factory.”

After parking the car, Liu Cheng led Chen Mo and Tang Qiu to a factory area and gestured towards it.

Chen Mo briefly surveyed the surroundings, then his eyes locked onto the old, shabby company signboard. His eyes lit up.

The signboard was the face of the company.

How could such a broken sign be acceptable? He definitely needed to replace it with a grand, high-end one.

Sure enough, as soon as the thought arose, the system didn’t issue any warnings.

    This was feasible!

He hadn’t even stepped inside, and he had already found a way to spend money. What a great sign!

Chen Mo was excited and couldn’t help but exclaim, “Good!”

“President Chen, as long as you’re satisfied! Let me take you to the office first.”

Hearing Chen Mo’s enthusiasm, Liu Cheng’s smile grew even wider.

Tang Qiu, on the other hand, glanced at the dilapidated signboard, looking puzzled.

She couldn’t understand what Chen Mo saw in this company.

    It was clearly rundown!

And then, she suddenly realized something.

Why was Liu Cheng introducing the company to Chen Mo?

    Could it be…?

Thinking of this, she quickly caught up with Chen Mo.

“Is this your first time visiting the company?”

    “Yeah!”

Chen Mo nodded without hesitation, continuing to look around for ways to spend money.

    Tang Qiu’s expression darkened.

She had assumed that since he was buying this company, he had at least done an on-site inspection beforehand.

She had never imagined that he had never even visited and just bought it outright.

“Aren’t you worried there might be problems with this company?”

“Haven’t you already checked that it has no legal issues?”

    Tang Qiu was momentarily speechless.

So this was Chen Mo’s bottom line—he only cared that it wasn’t illegal.

“President Chen, this is the factory building. The left side is the office on the first floor, with employee dorms upstairs. The right side is the workshop, also two stories high.”

“I’ll take you to the office first, then we’ll go meet the employees.”

Liu Cheng led them to a row of factory buildings.

The two-story structure had peeling walls and looked quite run-down.

Fixing the exterior could also be an expense, Chen Mo thought to himself.

As they stepped inside, Liu Cheng was about to continue his introduction when he noticed several employees gathered in the office lobby.

    What was going on?

Before he could ask, Wei Yan approached quickly.

“Boss, the employees already know the company was sold. They want to discuss this month’s wages.”
