Chapter 93: Working Overtime Without Permission Is Not Allowed

When Jiang Cheng heard Lu Zhenguo’s words, he fell silent.

After a while, he slowly raised his head.

ā€œOld Lu, I’m really sorry. The workshop is already full—there are no spare positions left to bring in new workers.ā€

ā€œBut don’t worry. If any positions open up in the future, you’ll be the first person I think of.ā€

After he finished speaking, Jiang Cheng looked at Lu Zhenguo apologetically. The truth was, there really weren’t any openings in the workshop at the moment.

Although, with his current position as Workshop Director, he could force someone into the workshop if he really wanted to.

But he absolutely wouldn’t do that. General Manager Chen entrusted the workshop to him, and he had to live up to that trust.

Even though Lu Zhenguo was his friend, he wouldn’t use his position for personal gain or do anything that would harm the company’s interests.

Hearing Jiang Cheng’s refusal, Lu Zhenguo looked a little disappointed. Still, he believed the explanation about the workshop being full.

After all, with such a good job, how could there be any vacancies?

ā€œAlright then, just remember me when there’s an opening in the future.ā€

ā€œDon’t worry, Old Lu. If a position opens up, I’ll come to you first.ā€

    Jiang Cheng promised.

    ……

    Old Town Community

A small truck pulled up in front of the entrance to a building.

Yang Dahai jumped down from the passenger seat and directed a few movers to unload the appliances from the truck.

ā€œTake them up to the fourth floor, apartment 2.ā€

Hearing this, the movers got to work, carrying the appliances upstairs.

    Fourth Floor, Apartment 2

Chen Mo had just finished the lunch delivered by Aunt Dong downstairs. As he was wondering what to do next, someone knocked on the door.

    Could it be Yang Duoduo?

He’d been living here for a while now, and Yang Duoduo often came by to bring food, so she was already quite familiar with him.

Sometimes, when she didn’t feel like studying, she’d sneak over to his place.

With him as her excuse, Aunt Dong couldn’t really do anything about it.

Thinking this, Chen Mo walked to the door and slowly opened it.

But what greeted him was a large cardboard box, with a head poking out from behind it, asking him:

    ā€œHello, where should I put the refrigerator?ā€

    Refrigerator?

    Chen Mo looked puzzled.

    ā€œDid you deliver to the wrong place? I didn’t buy a refrigerator.ā€

The mover paused and looked up at the door number.

Fourth floor, apartment 2—it was correct.

ā€œNope, this is the right place.ā€

Just then, Yang Dahai’s voice came from downstairs. After a few footsteps, he appeared at the door.

ā€œPresident Chen, we didn’t deliver to the wrong place. I told them to bring it here.ā€

    ā€œBrother Yang, this is…?ā€

Chen Mo looked at Yang Dahai in confusion, though he already had a bit of a guess in mind.

ā€œPresident Chen, these are the prizes from the sports meet. Our family already has all these appliances, but your place is too empty—there’s barely anything. So we decided to bring them here.ā€

    ā€œYou can actually use them.ā€

    Yang Dahai said cheerfully.

He and Dong Hong had discussed it last night. They’d been to Chen Mo’s place before and knew it didn’t even have the most basic appliances.

So they decided to bring the sports meet prizes over to him.

Whether or not Chen Mo used them, they’d feel much more at ease this way.

After all, they only participated in two events at the meet and won four prizes. It had been too easy—it felt almost unreal.

ā€œBrother Yang, isn’t the finance office on break these days? How did you even redeem the vouchers?ā€

Chen Mo suddenly remembered the company went on break right after the sports meet ended.

ā€œPresident Chen, we haven’t gone to finance yet. We just paid for these with our own money first. We’ll redeem the prize vouchers on Monday—no big deal.ā€

Hearing Yang Dahai’s explanation, Chen Mo was genuinely touched.

Even though the prizes were distributed by him, once they were in Yang Dahai’s hands, they technically belonged to Yang’s family.

Now, by bringing them here, Yang Dahai was willingly giving up his own belongings.

Chen Mo watched as the movers slowly brought the appliances in.

There were exactly four: refrigerator, washing machine, TV, and air conditioner.

Then a few installers came in to set up the air conditioner and any other appliances that needed installation.

Looking at how the place had changed, Chen Mo couldn’t help but sigh—if only he had more employees like Yang Dahai, he wouldn’t be living so frugally.

    ……

    The holiday passed quickly.

Chen Mo was leisurely sitting in his office, holding a freshly brewed cup of coffee made by Shen Rou.

He was deep in thought about how to spend the system’s 3 million yuan in funds.

    Knock knock knock!

Someone knocked on the office door.

    ā€œPresident Chen, I’ve finished inspecting the machines.ā€

Jiang Cheng walked in and placed a folder of documents on Chen Mo’s desk.

ā€œThat fast? You already finished the inspection?ā€

Chen Mo looked at the proposal on the desk in surprise.

He remembered assigning Jiang Cheng to inspect the machines during the sports meet—but the company went on break right after that. Today was the first official day back at work.

How could the inspection be done already?

Hearing the question, Jiang Cheng quickly explained.

ā€œPresident Chen, I took my wife out shopping over the weekend, and while we were out, I stopped by the machinery market to do the inspection.ā€

Chen Mo frowned slightly upon hearing that. That counts as working overtime without permission.

Thankfully, he was just scouting machines—if he’d gone out to make money on the side, that would’ve been a real issue.

    Still,

He should give a warning, just in case.

He looked at Jiang Cheng a bit sternly.

ā€œJiang Cheng, what you did counts as working overtime without permission. Don’t do that again, understand?ā€

ā€œAny work-related matters need to be handled during official working hours.ā€

    ā€œUnderstood, President Chen.ā€

    Jiang Cheng nodded obediently.

Seeing this, Chen Mo nodded too and turned his attention to the folder Jiang Cheng had brought.

It contained pricing details for each machine, with photos and descriptions of their uses.

But he only focused on the prices—he didn’t even glance at the pictures or functions.

When he saw the prices, he frowned.

The machines weren’t expensive at all. The cheapest was only 4,500 yuan, some were around 10,000, and the most expensive—an automatic bag-trimming machine—was just 60,000.

The total cost for replacing all the machines only added up to about 500,000 yuan. That was still far from the 3 million he needed to spend!

It didn’t come anywhere close to his planned budget!

He’d expected to spend at least 2 million on this purchase.

Machines were supposed to be expensive—why were they so cheap? Most likely, Jiang Cheng had just picked out the most affordable ones.

ā€œJiang Cheng, are there really no more expensive options for these machines?ā€
