He Lianshan, the boss of the Lanhe Cross-Border Trading Company, a man with a round face, a greasy look, and a beer belly, was furiously berating his subordinates.
In recent days, due to some mistakes in the company’s decision-making, a lot of business and orders had been lost. He hadn’t had time to find Han Mengyao, his young mistress, and indulge in her youthful body. Every day, he was stuck dealing with his wife at home, who had a yellowed face, and he had no interest in her at all.
If it weren’t for the fact that most of the company’s shares were still in his father-in-law’s hands, he probably would have thrown the divorce papers at his wife by now.
After finishing his scolding, He Lianshan returned to his office, preparing to make a video call to Han Mengyao, to take some verbal advantage and flirt a bit.
At that moment, six uniformed criminal police officers entered the company.
After showing their police IDs at the front desk, they immediately proceeded to push open the door to the chairman’s office.
Under He Lianshan’s stunned gaze, the lead officer placed a summons document on the desk and then pulled out a pair of silver handcuffs, placing them on He Lianshan’s wrists. In a cold tone, the officer said:
“He Lianshan, right?”
“This is the Huaihai Criminal Investigation Team. We strongly suspect you are connected to a murder case, and we need you to cooperate with our investigation at the police station.”
Just as He Lianshan was about to shout angrily at the officers, upon hearing that he was involved in a murder case, he immediately panicked. He quickly said:
“No, no, officer, this must be a mistake! How could I be connected to a murder case? I’ve been so busy at the company these past few days, I haven’t had time to…”
Before He Lianshan could finish speaking, the officer in charge yanked him up by the handcuffs, expressionless, and said:
“You know Han Mengyao, right?”
“She’s the mistress you’ve been keeping. Two days ago, something happened to her. She was found in the Huainan River, and we seriously suspect your involvement in her death!”
“We need you to cooperate with the investigation. No more nonsense! You’ll have the chance to explain everything in the interrogation room!”
The news hit He Lianshan like a thunderclap. His eyes widened, and he incredulously muttered:
“She… she’s dead?”
“How is that possible? She was fine just two days ago…”
Halfway through, He Lianshan suddenly remembered he was in his company. He couldn’t let his wife or father-in-law find out about his mistress, so he quickly shut his mouth.
Without resisting, he allowed the police officers to take him away, leaving all his questions and concerns for the interrogation room.
Rather than argue at the company, he thought it would be better to cooperate and clear up the suspicions against him.
But even though He Lianshan reacted quickly, the news of the boss being taken by the police spread rapidly through the entire company. The fact that his mistress had been killed quickly reached the ears of his wife and father-in-law.
Meanwhile, in the Haichao Internet Café in the northern part of Huaihai District.
Su Ming, Wang Hu, Xu Changsheng, and others, dressed in plain clothes, entered the internet café through the front and back doors.
With the help of the front desk staff, they quickly identified He Yong, sitting in the corner of the café.
Today, He Yong was wearing a cheap, faded black leather jacket, worn-out long jeans, and had oily hair. Judging by the messy hair and the two instant noodle cups next to the computer, it was easy to tell…
He Yong had been in the internet café for a long time and was likely here since committing the crime.
This kind of behavior was common in previous cases. Many criminals, after committing murder, would panic, afraid of being caught, and would try to numb themselves using alcohol or engage in other activities to distract themselves. Some even went on the run nationwide!
He Yong clearly belonged to the second category. Despite having a criminal record, he was still hiding in the internet café, playing games and numbing himself with late-night sessions.
While He Yong was focused on playing games, Su Ming and the other officers quietly moved into position, ready to make an arrest at any moment.
With years of experience, Xu Changsheng made the first move. He stepped forward, tapped He Yong on the shoulder, and feigned anger, shouting:
“He Yong, what are you still doing here on the internet?”
“Didn’t the boss tell you to go to work? Do you not want this job anymore?”
Although they had already confirmed He Yong’s identity as the suspect, Xu Changsheng still asked the question as a formality, to avoid any mistakes.
Startled by the tap on his shoulder, He Yong turned around and yelled angrily:
“Go to work? Don’t f***ing bother me…”
Before he could finish, Xu Changsheng immediately pushed He Yong’s head onto the desk with his hands.
“Bang!!!”
He Yong’s head slammed into the computer desk.
Just as he was about to resist, Su Ming and Wang Hu quickly surrounded him, pinning him down and pulling his arms behind his back, cuffing him with silver handcuffs!
Once they confirmed He Yong was no longer resisting, Su Ming pulled out his ID and flashed it in front of He Yong.
“I’m a police officer.”
“We suspect you’re involved in a murder case. We need you to cooperate with our investigation.”
“You know Han Mengyao, right?”
When the name Han Mengyao was mentioned, He Yong’s pupils visibly contracted, and in a hoarse and indifferent voice, he said:
“I don’t know her.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. You’ve got the wrong person. I’ve been playing games at Haichao Internet Café these past few days.”
Su Ming raised an eyebrow in disbelief, shaking his head, and started searching He Yong’s pockets.
“I find it strange.”
“He Yong, why do you say you don’t know Han Mengyao but then explain that you’ve been at the internet café all these days? Isn’t this a little too obvious?”
“Alright, I’ve found the car keys. You don’t need to explain anymore. We’ll get the full story when we get to the interrogation room.”
Su Ming took the car keys from He Yong’s pocket and looked over at Xu Changsheng, who was holding He Yong’s shoulder.
“Brother Changsheng.”
“I’ll go check out He Yong’s car. We should be able to find DNA evidence of the victim as physical evidence.”
“And the piece of leather seat that was scratched by the victim’s nails.”
Xu Changsheng nodded and covered He Yong’s head with his coat.
“Okay, then.”
“Xiao Ming, you handle the car evidence comparison. I’ll take He Yong back.”
“There are too many people at the internet café. We can’t stay too long to avoid causing a scene.”
After speaking, Xu Changsheng led He Yong out of the internet café, with three other officers assisting, to prevent him from escaping.
As for Su Ming, he didn’t rush to the parking lot. Instead, he and Wang Hu first went to the front desk to copy the surveillance footage from the last five days, just in case they needed it later.
Then, in the parking lot of the internet café, they located He Yong’s inexpensive second-hand car using the remote control.
After unlocking the passenger side, Su Ming first looked at the top right corner of the passenger seat headrest.
The damaged leather was likely where the victim’s fingernails were. When someone is strangled, they instinctively try to scratch and grab at something above them.
After three seconds, Su Ming clearly saw a small tear about the size of a fingernail on the top right of the passenger seat headrest. His eyes glimmered with confidence.
“Now… we have enough physical evidence!!!”
