by MarineTLChapter 298: The Operation Begins, Su Ming’s True Confidence
This time,
Su Ming’s plan was nothing short of bold.
He intended to attempt a long-range sniper shot to neutralize the Priest, a strategy that was clearly daring in the extreme.
But it had to be said, compared to a direct breach and entry, this approach offered a significant tactical advantage.
After all, the Priest, who had survived war-torn Middle Eastern battlefields and was armed with a heavy sniper rifle, posed a terrifying threat that needed no further explanation.
The rooftop he was hiding on had only one point of access—a reinforced iron door.
Even if they used a breaching charge followed by a flashbang, the moment the door opened, the Priest could easily fire through it with his heavy sniper rifle, potentially hitting the officers waiting behind.
Judging by the power of that weapon,
Even after penetrating the iron door, the bullet would likely retain enough force to go straight through a human body.
Under those circumstances,
Forcing the door open would almost certainly lead to unnecessary casualties.
As for using drones to drop explosives, while technically feasible, the rooftop was on the west side, fully exposed and swept by strong winds. Tear gas and smoke grenades would be largely ineffective.
So, to ensure that the Priest would be incapacitated before the breach—unable to retaliate or harm the officers entering the rooftop—
The only remaining option seemed to be using a hand grenade with enough destructive force to disable him. But that also carried the risk of killing him outright.
Nobody wanted it to come to that unless absolutely necessary. Given the Priest’s special relationship with K, it was clear that he likely possessed a wealth of intelligence about the drug trafficking organization.
Alive, his value far surpassed that of a corpse.
In fact,
If he died, his usefulness would end there and then. He’d be of no help in dismantling the organization.
There was also the idea of a prolonged lockdown to wear him down through dehydration and starvation, which could have worked.
But since the Priest had a heavy sniper rifle and the capability to kill civilians at long range, the area would need to be sealed off for several days.
However, Sanhe Square was a high-traffic area. A long-term lockdown would cause a massive public outcry.
The idle workers who lived day-to-day on odd jobs would definitely stir up trouble. That clearly wasn’t a viable option.
After weighing all this,
Su Ming concluded that if they wanted to capture the Priest quickly and keep him alive,
Then the best option under these constraints was to take up a sniper position in a nearby high-rise and neutralize him with a counter-sniper shot.
Of course, the key reason Su Ming chose this plan was because—he had absolute confidence in his own sniping skills, enough to outmatch even the battle-hardened Priest from the Middle East.
…
Three minutes later,
Su Ming accepted the light sniper rifle handed to him by the SWAT team captain.
The moment it was in his hands, he began checking it with practiced ease—swapping the magazine, peering through the high-powered scope, and inspecting every part of the weapon.
The SWAT captain standing beside him gave a slight nod of approval upon seeing Su Ming’s familiarity with the rifle. Clearly, he felt more at ease about the upcoming operation.
Once he confirmed the weapon was in perfect working order and wouldn’t hinder the mission, Su Ming turned to Lin Tian and the others and signaled.
“Chief Lin, Captain Lei.”
“To avoid interfering with the arrest of Ghost, we need to move quickly.”
“I’ve decided to use the rooftop of that building over there for this operation. While it’s not as ideal a position as the one the Priest chose,”
“In terms of overall height and angle, it’s the best option we’ve got.”
Hearing this,
Lin Tian looked toward the building Su Ming indicated, then nodded, his brows furrowed in concern.
“Alright.”
“We’ll go with that building.”
“I’ll head up to the rooftop with you, see if there’s anything I can help with. Otherwise, I—”
Before Lin Tian could finish,
Su Ming shook his head and cut him off, replying with firm seriousness.
“No, Chief Lin.”
“I don’t need anyone else up there with me. It would only increase the risk of unexpected incidents and could distract me.”
“Against someone as experienced as the Priest, I need a quiet environment to ensure nothing goes wrong.”
“At the same time, I’ll need support from the rest of you.”
“Once I’m in position, I need you to initiate contact with the Priest—call out to him, try to draw him out. That’ll give me a chance to pinpoint his location.”
“Also, we need officers stationed at the rooftop door. The moment the Priest is incapacitated, they must rush in and secure him. If he’s seriously injured, get him to the hospital immediately to prevent his condition from worsening.”
“In this drug trafficking organization, aside from the founder K, the Priest and Ghost are the two most critical members.”
“The intelligence they hold is key to bringing this entire case to a close.”
At this point,
Su Ming paused for a couple of seconds, carefully reviewing everything in his mind to make sure he hadn’t missed anything. Then he waved his hand.
“That’s it. Let’s move.”
“Once we’ve taken down the Priest, we still have Ghost to deal with.”
“If we can capture both of them, this drug trafficking organization is as good as finished. It’ll only be a matter of time before it collapses.”
At that moment,
Su Ming exhaled deeply, then picked up the light sniper rifle and headed toward the distant high-rise.
This was the second-best sniping position he had identified.
While it wasn’t as advantageous as the one the Priest had chosen, it still offered a viable shot. At the very least, he wouldn’t be rendered useless by poor angles or height differences.
…
He arrived on the rooftop of another high-rise about a hundred meters away. Below him, Sanhe Square had been cleared of civilians.
The building where the Priest was hiding and the one Su Ming had chosen stood at opposite corners of Sanhe Square. Both rooftops offered a commanding view of the entire plaza.
Crouching slightly, Su Ming used the railing to conceal his silhouette.
He jogged over and leaned against the railing, peeking out to get a look at the building across the hundred-meter gap.
Confirming that the Priest was still hiding and hadn’t made any moves, he nodded toward the officers stationed at the stairwell by the iron door, signaling that everything was normal.
Although Su Ming had insisted that no one else join him on the rooftop to avoid affecting his focus or shot, Lin Tian had still assigned a few officers to wait at the stairwell with emergency medical supplies.
They made no noise, standing by in case Su Ming was injured and needed immediate aid.
Taking a deep breath, Su Ming pressed the button on the miniature earpiece and spoke softly.
“Chief Lin, we’re ready. Begin the operation.”
