by MarineTLChapter 286: Seeking the Professor’s Help—The Ghost Must Not Be Allowed to Live
“Click—”
The Ghost finished speaking.
Without waiting for a response, he hung up the phone immediately.
Listening to the busy tone on the other end, K’s temples throbbed, and he clenched his fists tightly.
It was clear now.
He fully understood that the Ghost had essentially slipped out of his control. The Ghost had even begun to suspect that K was planning to have him eliminated.
This would undoubtedly make handling the Ghost in the future several times more difficult.
Not only would they have to evade the scrutiny of the police, but they would also need to lower the Ghost’s guard as much as possible to prevent him from playing both sides.
Because if the Ghost went off the rails and hid himself away in some remote corner, neither the Priest nor Gray Wolf—who had come specifically for this—would have any good way of dragging him out. The situation would tilt even more in the police’s favor.
After all,
The backdoor access to the Sky Eye Surveillance system had already been sealed. K could no longer use it to gather real-time intel, nor could he rely on it to track the Ghost’s movements.
After thinking carefully for several seconds,
K picked up his phone again and dialed another number.
When the call connected,
A pleasant female voice came through the speaker.
“K.”
“Have you arrived in Bangkok already?”
“There are plenty of flights from Dubai to the United States. Just grab a ticket and head over as soon as you can.”
“J heard you were coming back and went out of his way to buy a bunch of expensive red wine. Said he wants to throw a long-overdue party.”
“To celebrate the return of the one he respects most—K—back to the family.”
“I really don’t get it. You’re clearly being forced to return, so why is J acting so enthusiastic, like he’s been waiting for you to fail?”
Listening to Q’s half-complaint, half-resigned tone,
K’s anger eased a little, but his expression grew serious again. He spoke in a low voice.
“Q.”
“I might need to stay in Bangkok for a while. I’m not planning to head to Dubai just yet.”
“The Ghost is almost completely out of my control now, and he’s already figured out… that I might be sending someone to silence him permanently.”
“The next few hours will be the most critical.”
“I need to stay in Bangkok to handle this, in case something unexpected happens and I’m stuck midair, unable to issue any commands.”
“The Priest?” Q’s voice turned cold and heavy, immediately pressing for answers.
“Didn’t the Professor say you sent the Priest to deal with the Ghost too? And with Gray Wolf just three hours away from Jiahe City, there shouldn’t be any problems.”
K stared out at the airport runway, eyes narrowed, and answered calmly.
“Jiahe City is under lockdown.”
“Even the Priest isn’t fully confident he can get in. I think those dogs have also figured out that the Ghost knows about the evidence Lan Cai’er has.”
“With the keen instincts of their leader, I’m sure they’ve already guessed we’re planning to eliminate the Ghost.”
“So they’re definitely trying to get to him first, capture and control him, and use him to get their hands on Lan Cai’er’s evidence.”
“For now, we can only try to keep the Ghost calm. But I can no longer be certain… that he’ll actually go to the location I gave him. That’s the most troublesome part.”
Upon hearing this,
Q could no longer suppress her fury. Her voice turned icy as she cursed.
“That damn J.”
“We should’ve castrated him back then. Just because he opened a brothel, he thinks he’s some big shot.”
“He even killed that kind of person, and now we’re all being dragged into a mess by a mere Ghost, completely on the back foot.”
“If this gets exposed, not even the Professor will be able to protect him!”
After venting for a while,
Though Q was still audibly seething, she did her best to calm herself. Her tone became serious and resolute.
“K.”
“So what’s your plan now?”
“Or rather… did you call because you need me to do something?”
Despite her anger,
Q’s mind remained sharp. She knew that K wouldn’t be calling at a time like this just to report on the current mess.
At this moment,
K was unusually calm. He watched a plane take off from the runway and replied,
“I’ll stay in Bangkok for now.”
“I’ll keep in contact with the Ghost, try to stabilize him, and make sure we don’t lose track of his movements. That way, we’ll have the best chance to carry out the execution.”
“Q.”
“What you need to do is relay orders to Gray Wolf in real time.”
“The Priest mentioned earlier that if he fails to infiltrate Jiahe City and his cover is blown, he’ll try to draw attention away from Gray Wolf.”
“So if that happens, Gray Wolf becomes our final option for dealing with the Ghost.”
“To ensure we don’t lose track of the Ghost, I need the Professor’s help. I believe… no matter how difficult the situation, he’ll find a way to locate the Ghost.”
Hearing this,
Q fell silent for a few seconds, then gave a firm response.
“Understood, K.”
“I’ll get the Professor involved. He’ll help clean up this mess.”
“And when it’s all over, we’ll make J kneel in front of us and apologize. This entire disaster is his doing.”
With that,
She hung up without hesitation, clearly already moving to take action.
K slowly lowered the phone, still staring at the empty airport runway ahead, gently rubbing the pure silver ring on his finger.
In this moment,
He chose to believe in the Professor—the man he saw as omnipotent.
…
8:30 AM.
Traffic on the highway had noticeably increased.
Among the many vehicles on the road, a truck marked with “Green Channel Vegetables” was speeding toward the toll station at Jiahe City.
A truck moving at such high speed naturally drew the ire of many drivers, some of whom were ready to call the traffic police to report it.
But when they saw the words “Green Channel Goods” on the side of the truck, they immediately understood and gave up the idea.
A Green Channel Truck.
Driving that fast actually made perfect sense.
At the Jiahe City toll station,
The Priest was waiting in line to pass through. His face wore that same dull, harmless expression—no trace of aggression, only honesty and simplicity.
But in his line of sight,
He had already spotted a traffic police officer approaching slowly to inspect his vehicle…
