by MarineTLChapter 350: How Many Days Must I Wait to See the Killer?
At that moment,
Chief Xu, the head of the Shanghai Police Department, suddenly called. There was no doubt it was related to this case.
Given Old Morgan’s influence and the urgency of the situation, reaching out to the authorities under the name of Morgan Financial Group was by far the most efficient route.
After all,
Morgan Financial Group, known as the world’s creditor, was a colossal commercial empire that no country could afford to ignore.
…
After nodding to the others in the room, Lin Tian picked up the call.
Since it was Chief Xu on the other end, Lin Tian didn’t put the call on speaker, but he also didn’t step out of the conference room. He simply spoke in front of everyone.
“Chief Xu.”
“What’s the matter? Why the sudden call?”
After he spoke,
Chief Xu seemed to be explaining the reason for the call.
Lin Tian narrowed his eyes slightly, glanced at Su Ming across from him, then nodded with certainty.
“No problem, Chief Xu.”
“If Old Morgan has already reached out through official channels, that means deep down, he’s already agreed to let us go to the United States to help find the killer who murdered Little Morgan.”
“Since this is unprecedented, requesting a video call for further confirmation is completely reasonable.”
“Of course, rather than worrying about opposition from other U.S. organizations or financial groups, I believe… Old Morgan wants the video call mainly to assess the strength of our Dragon Country Police.”
“After all, at this point, he doesn’t care about appearances. He just wants the killer to pay as soon as possible.”
At this point,
Lin Tian paused, listening to Chief Xu on the other end, then responded while still on the call.
“Don’t worry, Chief Xu.”
“We’ll proceed with caution. There won’t be any unexpected issues.”
“Since this will be the Dragon Country Police’s first cross-border manhunt in the United States, we will not fail in our duty. We will bring the fugitive K back to face justice.”
“That’s all for now, Chief Xu. I’ll contact Old Morgan immediately.”
With that, Lin Tian ended the call, then looked at the ever-confident Su Ming and said with deep emotion,
“Xiao Ming, you really called it.”
“Old Morgan is so furious he can’t wait another second. He’s already reached out to us using Morgan Financial Group’s official identity.”
“But there’s one thing we need to pay attention to… Old Morgan has requested a video call with you. Most likely, he wants to judge the strength of our police force.”
“As long as nothing goes wrong during the video call, we should be able to depart immediately.”
Upon hearing this,
Su Ming smiled nonchalantly and nodded with ease.
“No problem, Chief Lin.”
“It’s actually a good thing that Old Morgan reached out first. It gives me a chance to clarify some key matters before we begin, so we won’t have to go back and confirm things later.”
“After all, in a foreign country like the United States, where we don’t know the people or the terrain, the difficulty of criminal investigation could easily be several times higher than here.”
“Since we’re going at the invitation of Morgan Financial Group, they need to provide effective support.”
“If there’s nothing else, let’s set up the video call with Old Morgan as soon as possible. K’s already had several days to run.”
“I’ve been… looking forward to going to the United States for a long time.”
…
At that moment,
Inside the forensic lab at the New York Police Department,
A secretary, fiddling with a laptop, leaned toward Old Morgan, who was resting with his eyes closed in a chair, and spoke softly.
“Chairman.”
“We’ve completed contact with the Dragon Country authorities and satisfied the preliminary requirements for communication. We can begin the video call at any time.”
Though he appeared to be resting, Old Morgan’s mind was replaying the earlier video footage. He opened his eyes and gave a slight nod toward the laptop in front of him, his voice firm and unquestionable.
“Begin.”
With that,
The secretary immediately picked up the mouse and clicked to initiate the video conference.
The next second,
“Ding-dong—ding-dong—ding-dong—”
The sharp, slightly grating ringtone began to play.
A few seconds later, with a soft “beep,” the video call connected.
Old Morgan looked at the face on the screen—the same Dragon Country officer who had called him earlier—and his eyes filled with doubt. He frowned openly.
Because the man on the screen, Su Ming, looked far too young. He even appeared to be a few years younger than Little Morgan.
If a police officer’s experience was tied to age,
Then in Old Morgan’s eyes, this young Dragon Country officer likely had no real experience at all. He was probably just a staff member sent to speak on behalf of someone else.
With that thought,
Old Morgan tapped his fingers lightly on the table, his brow furrowed, and spoke in a low, impatient voice.
“Have someone else come.”
“What I need right now is a police station leader who can make decisions and take charge, not a young, inexperienced intern who has to consult their superior about everything.”
“What about the officer I spoke to on the phone earlier? Let him talk to me!”
Old Morgan’s words were laced with impatience.
Su Ming, however, didn’t show the slightest hint of displeasure. Instead, he gave a faint smile, shrugged casually, and replied in a relaxed tone.
“CEO Morgan, I believe you’ve misunderstood.”
“From the very beginning—when you were first contacted by email, informed of Young Master Morgan’s body location, and later sent the latest related video—it’s been me the whole time. That hasn’t changed.”
“Of course, if you think I’m too young and would prefer someone else, that can certainly be arranged.”
“But personally, I’d advise against it. I’ve been involved in this entire case from the start, and my understanding of these criminals far surpasses that of anyone else.”
“If you want to catch the person who killed Young Master Morgan as soon as possible, well…”
Su Ming didn’t finish the sentence.
But Old Morgan clearly caught the implication. He raised an eyebrow in surprise, clearly reassessing Su Ming with a bit more respect.
Though he rarely visited the Dragon Country, he was well aware of how things worked in its official circles.
In the video call, the higher-ups were surely sitting just off-camera. If this young man didn’t have real skill and substance, he wouldn’t dare speak so boldly.
With that thought, Old Morgan stopped dwelling on Su Ming’s youth. He tapped his index finger lightly on the table and spoke.
“As for the matter we discussed earlier, I’m willing to agree. In fact, I can even expedite things… pull some strings so you can be on a plane to the United States tonight. But right now, I need to know one thing…”
“How many days?”
“How many days will it take before I can see the killer with my own eyes?”
