    Chapter 138 – Then Let’s Start with 500,000

That morning, Chen Mo had still been racking his brain over how to do some charity work.

And now, the opportunity had presented itself.

Helping stray cats and dogs was also a kind of public service!

“If I want to donate to that animal rescue shelter, who should I talk to?”

Chen Mo looked at Tang Qiu.

Since Tang Qiu had previously donated dog food to that animal rescue shelter, she should be familiar with how donations worked.

“President Chen, that particular rescue shelter doesn’t accept monetary donations. If you really want to help, you can donate cat and dog food, or things like used blankets,” Tang Qiu explained.

She had originally wanted to donate money too, thinking that would give the shelter staff more freedom to allocate resources where they were most needed.

But upon arriving at the shelter, she found out they didn’t accept money.

After looking into it, she learned that some people who donated money would start obsessively tracking how the donation was used—demanding the animals be moved to better facilities, questioning the quality of the food, and so on.

If the shelter’s actions didn’t meet their expectations, or even slightly deviated from them, these donors would immediately suspect that their money had been embezzled, stirring up all kinds of trouble.

Because of this, the shelter had stopped accepting money altogether, and only took in-kind donations.

“I see. Then if I want to donate pet food, which brand is best?”

Since they didn’t accept money, Chen Mo figured he could just buy a large amount of pet food. It was just one extra step—didn’t really affect his spending at all.

He wasn’t familiar with pet food though, so he had to ask Tang Qiu.

“President Chen, there’s no need to buy any fancy brands for the shelter. As long as it’s safe and healthy, it’s good enough. There’s a pet food factory here in Jiangcheng that I’ve personally visited. They use very healthy ingredients,” Tang Qiu said.

“Normally it sells for around 20 yuan online, but if you buy over a ton and tell the factory it’s for donation to a shelter, they’ll offer a discounted price of 13 yuan per jin (half a kilogram).”

“But there’s one condition—they’ll send someone from the factory to follow the delivery, to make sure it really goes to the rescue shelter.”

“If you’re serious about the donation, I can help contact them. I know the owner of the factory.”

Tang Qiu looked up at Chen Mo. From what he’d said earlier, she had pretty much figured out he was planning to donate pet food.

“Alright, go ahead and make the contact,” Chen Mo nodded. Since Tang Qiu had the connections, it’d save him the trouble—he’d just foot the bill.

He didn’t care about the discount.

After all, it was for the rescue shelter. If it was cheaper, he could buy more, and the shelter could get by a little longer.

Seeing Chen Mo nod, Tang Qiu asked, “President Chen, how much pet food are you planning to donate?”

“Let’s start with 500,000 yuan worth.”

    Chen Mo said it casually.

He wasn’t going to spend the entire 1.2 million yuan charity fund on pet food. The shelter wasn’t going anywhere—he could donate more anytime.

It was better to keep some of the charity funds available in case of emergencies.

When Tang Qiu heard the amount, her hand, holding her phone, froze for a moment.

    Had she heard that right?

“President Chen, did you say fifty thousand, or five hundred thousand?”

“Five hundred thousand. Get 300,000 worth of dog food, 200,000 worth of cat food,” Chen Mo said, slightly annoyed by the overreaction. He hadn’t even spent the whole charity fund yet.

If he had used it all on pet food—

Her phone would probably fly out of her hand.

    Clatter!

Startled by the sudden sound, Chen Mo turned toward it and saw Song Xia standing there, mouth agape.

One hand was frozen mid-air—her phone had already fallen to the ground.

“Ah, carry on, don’t mind me.”

Song Xia quickly bent down and picked up her phone.

But inside, she was in utter shock—five hundred thousand yuan.

She had lost less than 300,000 opening a milk tea shop, and her parents had been stressed for over a month because of it.

She hadn’t even dared go home for the holidays and ran off to stay with her sister.

And now? Five hundred thousand—just like that, spoken casually and decided in a single breath.

Looking at Chen Mo’s expressionless face, Song Xia finally understood why he had so easily offered her such generous benefits before—he really wasn’t short on money.

Tang Qiu took a deep breath. Thinking back to the staff sports day and the celebration banquet—none of those were cheap.

This 500,000 yuan pet food donation? That was totally in character for President Chen.

    Still—

She hadn’t expected him to be this compassionate. With this support, the Corner Cat & Dog Rescue Shelter would definitely have a bit of relief in terms of food expenses.

“I understand, President Chen. But with this much food, it might take a couple of days for the factory to prepare everything.”

“That’s fine,” Chen Mo nodded. He wasn’t in a rush.

“I want to go too. When we donate it, can I come along? I don’t have much money, but I can volunteer!”

Song Xia excitedly raised her hand.

“Sure, just come if you’ve got time,” Chen Mo replied casually.

The three of them chatted for a bit longer.

Soon, Wang Yang and Chen Jun came over from the adjacent room after finishing the measurements.

Not long after that, the measurements for the milk tea shop were completed as well.

    Wang Yang walked over.

“President Chen, the measurements are all done. I’ll head back and get the plans and designs drafted. I’ll send them to you afterward.”

    “Sounds good.”

Chen Mo stood up and walked them to the door. Seeing that there was nothing else to do here, he said goodbye to Tang Qiu and Song Xia and returned to the office.

    ……

    In a university dorm—

“There’s a clothing factory here hiring fashion designers. The pay’s not bad—interns get 6,000 yuan. Should we apply?”

“Let me see… Changfeng Clothing Factory. I’ll check them out. Hmm, just a small company. Probably no real future. That 6,000 salary is probably just bait. Once we join, they’ll probably change their tune.”

“Then what should we do? We’ve already tried all the big fashion companies. If not this, we might have to look out of town.”

In the dorm, a few girls gathered around a job site, discussing quietly.

“Yaning-jie, what do you think? Should we apply for this company?”

Zhou Yu turned to ask Xu Yaning, who had been silent all this time.

The other two girls also looked to Xu Yaning, waiting for her decision.
