Make Money C08
by MarineTLChapter 8: Settlement Begins—Why Did an Extra 40,000 Appear?
Old Town Residential Complex.
Chen Mo leaned against the sofa, staring intently at the settlement countdown.
15 minutes.
10 minutes.
…
When the countdown reached just over 3 minutes, the system panel suddenly flickered.
At first, Chen Mo didn’t think much of it, but then he quickly noticed something unusual.
The system funds, which were originally only 231, had suddenly changed.
What the hell?!
Thinking he was seeing things, Chen Mo rubbed his eyes hard and looked again.
The system funds had indeed changed.
He wasn’t mistaken.
What was going on?!
Staring at the sudden extra 40,000 in system funds, Chen Mo was completely dumbfounded.
Where did this 40,000 come from?
As the countdown neared zero, he wanted to spend the extra money, but at this point, it was obviously impossible.
【System settlement in progress…】
【System settlement complete, beginning fund conversion.】
【Fund conversion complete, replenishing system funds.】
【System funds replenished. Please check.】
Hearing the system messages, Chen Mo instinctively looked at the system panel.
【Host: Chen Mo】
【System Funds: 2,000,000】
【Personal Assets: 3,287】
【Settlement Cycle: Two weeks (Countdown: …)】
Seeing that his personal assets had shrunk to just over 3,000, Chen Mo slumped lifelessly onto the sofa.
One million!
One million had just slipped through his fingers!
After a long silence, Chen Mo slowly sat up. Looking at the newly replenished system funds, he felt his motivation return.
This time, as long as he could spend the 2 million in system funds down to below 2,000 before the next settlement, he could fully convert it into personal assets.
That was twice as much as before!
But first, he had to figure out where that extra 40,000 had come from.
If not for that money, he would already be a millionaire today!
He had to investigate and find out who was sabotaging him.
Ring, ring, ring!
The sound of a phone ringing interrupted his thoughts.
Glancing at the caller ID, he saw it was Wei Yan. He picked up the call without much thought.
As soon as he answered, an excited voice came through.
“President Chen, a payment of 40,000 just came in. You should have received it, right?”
Oh, great.
He hadn’t even started investigating yet, and the culprit had already delivered himself.
Grinding his teeth, Chen Mo asked, “Yes, I received it. I’d like to know—what is this 40,000 for?”
“Oh, it’s the advance payment for an order I secured yesterday.”
“President Chen, don’t worry. Even though this order isn’t huge, I’m confident I can bring in more business in the future!”
Wei Yan’s voice was filled with anticipation and ambition.
Chen Mo’s mouth twitched. He wanted to scold the guy, but Wei Yan had done this entirely for the company’s benefit. He really had no grounds to reprimand him.
Wei Yan, huh?
I’ll remember this.
Hanging up, Chen Mo took a moment to self-reflect.
This failure was partly due to his own carelessness.
Who would have thought that within just two days of acquiring the company, Wei Yan would already be bringing in orders?
Clearly, just spending money wasn’t enough—he had to find a way to curb the company’s profits as well.
Only then could he safely convert all system funds into personal assets.
This time, he’d treat it as a lesson learned. But he was determined to get that 2 million next time.
The Next Morning—Monday
Chen Mo got up early to wash up.
He couldn’t just sit around at home anymore.
He needed to go to the company and find more ways to spend money. Two million wasn’t a small amount—he had to act fast.
As he stepped out and started heading downstairs, he noticed that the door to Apartment 301 on the third floor had opened.
A middle-aged man and a six- or seven-year-old girl stepped out.
A moment later, a middle-aged woman leaned out and handed the man a lunchbox.
“Be careful on the way. Here’s your lunch—remember to eat it.”
“Finding a job takes time. Don’t rush it. You’ll get one eventually.”
She spoke gently.
Chen Mo raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Just two days ago, he remembered this couple having a huge argument.
He could hear them shouting all the way up on his floor.
But now, they seemed to have made up completely.
And looking at the woman’s concerned expression, there was no trace of the anger from before.
What an interesting family.
At that moment, they noticed him coming downstairs.
The woman quickly retreated back inside, while the little girl shyly hid behind the man.
The man subtly stepped aside, making way for him to pass.
Clearly, he was letting Chen Mo go first.
Chen Mo didn’t hesitate.
He gave the father and daughter a friendly smile before walking past them.
Leaving the complex, he hailed a taxi straight to the company.
Changfeng Garment Factory
“Good morning, President Chen!”
Seeing Chen Mo arrive, Wei Yan immediately came forward to greet him.
At the sight of Wei Yan, Chen Mo was instantly reminded of the million yuan he lost yesterday.
His heart ached.
Clearing his throat, he asked, “So, Wei Yan, do you have any plans for the coming days?”
Is he testing me?
Wei Yan’s heart skipped a beat.
Straightening his posture, he quickly replied, “President Chen, the company desperately needs more orders. I’ve reached out to many former clients and plan to negotiate with them. I hope to secure more deals and generate greater profits for the company!”
More orders?!
Chen Mo’s eyes widened in horror.
No way!
Never mind the settlement—every new order meant he had to spend more money.
That would make it even harder to burn through all the system funds!
I must find a way to stop him from taking more orders!
After a moment’s thought, he casually said, “Hmm… there’s no rush on orders. I have another task for you.”
“Yes, President Chen! Please give me your instructions.”
Wei Yan straightened up even more.
Was this an important assignment?
“Well, I noticed the paint on the exterior walls of the company is peeling. Find a contractor to repaint it.”
“President Chen, we can just assign this task to the workshop staff. I should focus on bringing in business. If we don’t get more orders soon, the workers will have nothing to do!”
“Wei Yan, you need to think long-term. Once the internal issues are taken care of, won’t orders naturally follow?”
“But… this is something anyone can handle!”
Wei Yan looked puzzled.
Chen Mo simply smiled and patted him on the shoulder.
Then, without another word, he walked into his office.
Sitting down, he began brainstorming more ways to spend money.
Salaries?
No, they had just been paid. He couldn’t issue another round of wages so soon.
Wait… if I can’t pay current employees more, I can just hire new ones!
Chen Mo’s eyes lit up.
Right now, the company didn’t even have a finance or HR department—he could justify hiring people for that.
And as the boss, wasn’t it reasonable for him to have a personal assistant?
Maybe even some additional workshop staff and salespeople.
But the salespeople had to be carefully chosen—he needed ones with terrible sales skills.
Otherwise, if they were all as competent as Wei Yan, he’d be in trouble.
As for his assistant, they didn’t need to be overly capable either.
Just someone who could handle basic tasks.
Otherwise, if they managed the company too well and boosted profits, that would be a disaster!
