by MarineTLChapter 355: Old Morgan Personally Welcomes Them at the Airport, Seven-Day Countdown to Solving the Case Begins
The next day.
Inside the Chairman’s Office of Morgan Tower.
After a proper nap and some rest, Old Morgan arrived at the office early as usual to handle the financial group’s decisions and affairs.
Although the Morgan Financial Group had grown immensely and many decisions no longer required Old Morgan’s personal attention to assess their feasibility, he still insisted on reviewing a random selection of decisions each day. This was to ensure the group’s health and minimize internal issues or kickback schemes.
By doing so, he sent a clear message to all the professional managers running the company on his behalf: just because you hold a certain amount of power doesn’t mean you can act recklessly behind the scenes. Old Morgan always held the sword of Damocles over their heads, ready to fall at any moment.
This unique system of random inspections was precisely what kept the massive Morgan Financial Group largely free from poor decisions and misconduct. Even amid a global economic downturn, the group remained stable and secure.
Because of this, even after Little Morgan was confirmed dead and the sole heir to the group was gone, the financial group didn’t experience any major upheaval.
Everyone believed that as long as Old Morgan was still alive, any rumors or unrest within the group would be swiftly corrected.
He was the anchor in the storm.
Old Morgan was undoubtedly the stabilizing force of the entire financial group, and one of the most powerful individuals in all levels of American society.
Though the loss of Little Morgan left him with a deep, unspoken sorrow, Old Morgan still fulfilled his duties with professionalism and completed the day’s work.
He also carefully reviewed whether any rival families or business empires were trying to take advantage of the situation to carve out a piece of Morgan Financial Group.
The result: all major families and financial groups acted as if nothing had happened. None dared to provoke Morgan Financial Group, fearful of being labeled as the mastermind behind the murder and risking their own heirs becoming collateral damage in retaliation from The Organization.
This only further confirmed Old Morgan’s belief that there was no larger puppet master behind the incident.
The killer was none other than the Poker Organization, hidden in the dark underbelly of the United States.
The details provided earlier by the police officer from the Dragon Country had once again been validated.
At that thought, Old Morgan glanced at the clock on his desk. Seeing that it was about time, he pressed the intercom.
Seconds later, the office door was knocked on, and a suited secretary stepped in respectfully.
“Chairman,” the secretary said. “Do you have any instructions?”
Old Morgan looked at the photo of Little Morgan on the desk, then stood up and said firmly, “To New York Airport.”
“The police from Dragon Country should be arriving soon. I need to confirm their operational details in person.”
…
An hour later.
As a large international flight landed at New York Airport, Su Ming and his team, guided by the flight attendants, disembarked faster than even the business class passengers. It seemed word had already reached the top.
This time, the plane didn’t stop at a terminal. Instead, they were to be transferred via shuttle within the airport.
However, as Su Ming and the others stepped out onto the airstairs, they noticed there were no shuttle buses waiting for them.
Standing at the bottom of the stairs was Old Morgan’s secretary, the same one who had appeared in the earlier video. Beside him were several bulletproof Mercedes vans and a particularly eye-catching Rolls-Royce Phantom.
The secretary, dressed in formal attire, gave a slight bow and gestured with an inviting hand. In somewhat broken but understandable Chinese, he said:
“Honored guests, please board the vehicles prepared by Morgan Financial Group.”
“For your convenience during the investigation, these vehicles will be at your full disposal. Wherever you wish to go, simply inform the driver.”
“As for Chief Su Ming, if you would please come with me. The Chairman is already waiting in the car and wishes to speak with you directly about further details.”
After hearing this, Liu Yang, familiar with official reception protocols, frowned and muttered in complaint.
“They’re putting pressure on us the moment we arrive.”
“They say it’s for convenience, but it’s clearly… to monitor our every move.”
“Once we use these cars, I bet the drivers will report our every step to their superiors. It’s a bit unsettling.”
“From this alone, you can tell this mission won’t be easy at all.”
Su Ming, however, simply shrugged and replied with confidence.
“Relax, Chief Liu.”
“Old Morgan isn’t some stubborn old man. As long as we catch the killer, everything else will be negotiable.”
“And in a way, these vehicles might actually serve as the best cover for us.”
“Either way, let’s get in the car. I’m curious what Old Morgan wants to ask that made him come all the way to the airport to meet us personally.”
“By all rights, he should be far too busy for this.”
With that, Su Ming took the lead and walked down the airstairs. After signaling to the others, he followed the secretary to the side door of the Rolls-Royce in the center of the convoy.
The secretary deftly opened the door and gestured for Su Ming to enter.
Without hesitation or nervousness, Su Ming bent down and took the left rear seat. Then he turned slightly to look beside him.
An elderly white man with distinguished features was reclining with his eyes closed, resting quietly. Between them was a central armrest, lowered to hold two glasses of red wine.
There was no doubt about it.
This was a high-level business reception, the kind of treatment Old Morgan would only extend to peers of equal standing. That he offered it to Su Ming spoke volumes about how seriously he took this matter.
Or rather… how seriously he took the hunt for Little Morgan’s killer.
After studying Old Morgan carefully, Su Ming didn’t speak. He simply closed his eyes as well, as if adjusting to the time zone.
Once everyone was settled, the motorcade began to move. Their destination was unmistakably the New York Police Department.
As the vehicles rolled out, Old Morgan slowly opened his weathered eyes. He didn’t look at Su Ming right away. Instead, he raised his wrist, checked the time, and said with absolute certainty:
“It’s now ten in the morning.”
“Seven days from now, at this exact time, I expect to see the person who killed Little Morgan.”
That sentence was clearly a form of pressure, a solemn reminder to Su Ming.
Don’t forget the promise made in the video: within seven days at the latest, J would be brought before him.
And the countdown had already begun, from the very moment Su Ming set foot in the United States… personally initiated by Old Morgan himself.
