Chapter 29: How Do We Drink This Wine?

“Oh, if you’re busy, then it’s fine not to go.”

Chen Mo glanced at Shen Rou and responded casually.

The money had already been spent—whether someone attended or not didn’t really matter.

After thinking for a moment, he added, “While you’re at it, notify the other employees as well. Let them know that tonight’s gathering is entirely voluntary.”

    “Got it, President Chen.”

Shen Rou nodded quickly, her previous concerns instantly fading away.

“Li Shen, President Chen is organizing a company dinner tonight, so you don’t have to go to the night market with me. There aren’t many clothes left anyway—I can handle it alone.”

Wei Yan found Li Shen and shared his thoughts.

Although President Chen had said attendance was voluntary, it would still be better if more people showed up.

Li Shen nodded in agreement. “Alright, just make sure you move around more tonight.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll definitely clear out the rest of the clothes tonight. Tomorrow, we can go to the company and transfer the money from the sales back to President Chen.”

“I bet he’ll be pleased. While I’m at it, I’ll also give you credit for the idea—after all, this whole sales channel was your idea.”

Wei Yan patted Li Shen on the shoulder. Over the past few days, Li Shen had been helping him sell clothes at the night market, and he was truly grateful.

Now that the time had come to take credit, he wasn’t the type to turn his back on a friend.

“Brother Yan, President Chen treats his employees well. Helping out a little is nothing.”

    Li Shen shook his head.

“That won’t do. I can’t just forget about you in this,” Wei Yan insisted. “Your brother here isn’t an ungrateful man.”

    “Alright, that settles it.”

Without giving Li Shen a chance to refuse, Wei Yan turned and moved the last two bundles of clothing into the car.

    7:30 PM.

    Xingyu Restaurant.

A few employees stood outside, marveling at the luxurious decor of the restaurant.

“Damn, this place looks fancy. The prices must be sky-high.”

“This is one of the top-ranked restaurants in Jiang City,” Wang Maonian commented. “Their chefs are all industry stars, so the prices are naturally high. The average cost per person is around 500 to 800 yuan.”

As a star chef himself, Wang Maonian couldn’t help but feel a bit emotional.

Others had become high-end restaurant chefs, while he had ended up working in a company cafeteria.

If his old colleagues found out, they’d probably laugh at him.

But what choice did he have? The pay from President Chen was just too good.

“500 to 800 per person? That means for all of us, the total cost will be over 20,000 yuan.”

    “President Chen is really generous.”

Hearing the price, the employees couldn’t help but exclaim in amazement.

“Alright, stop standing around at the entrance. Let’s go in.”

Li Shen glanced at the gathered employees and took the lead in entering the restaurant.

“Welcome. Do you have a reservation?”

A waiter approached them quickly with a friendly smile.

    “Yes.”

Li Shen nodded and relayed the details from President Chen.

    “Understood. Please follow me.”

The waiter’s attitude became even more courteous. The restaurant manager had specifically mentioned this reservation earlier, so she had to take it seriously.

“No wonder this is a high-end place. The service here is on another level compared to small restaurants.”

“If it weren’t for President Chen, I probably wouldn’t have ever come to a place like this in my life.”

Some employees whispered to each other as they admired the elegant surroundings.

    “Please, go ahead.”

The waiter led them to a private dining room, opened the door, and bowed respectfully.

“You’re all here. Sit wherever you like,” Chen Mo said with a smile. “This was arranged on short notice, but next time, I’ll plan something even better.”

While chatting with the restaurant manager earlier, he had looked at the menu and realized he could have spent even more.

It seemed that in the future, company team-building events could be a great way to stabilize expenses.

But for now, he had already spent all his system funds, so he’d have to wait until next time.

    “Thank you, President Chen!”

All the employees expressed their gratitude in unison.

“No need to be so formal. Just sit down.”

Chen Mo waved his hand and gestured toward the table.

One by one, the employees took their seats as the waitstaff began rolling in food carts.

Wang Maonian fell silent as he observed the dishes being served.

With his years of experience as a chef, he could tell at a glance that just the high-end dishes like Australian lobster were pushing the per-person cost beyond 1,000 yuan.

He hadn’t expected that President Chen would go to such great lengths for a simple employee gathering.

As time passed and more drinks were poured, the atmosphere grew livelier.

Li Shen stood up, raising his glass.

    “What are we?”

“Brothers!” the employees responded in unison, lifting their glasses.

    “How do we drink this?”

    “Bottoms up!”

They all downed their drinks together.

Chen Mo watched with a small smile.

Then a thought struck him—beer was relatively cheap. Next time, he’d switch to red wine. Given their drinking capacities, that would definitely rack up a hefty bill.

As he was lost in thought, Li Shen approached him with a glass in hand.

“President Chen, I’d like to toast you. Ever since you took over, the workshop employees have found new motivation. Everyone is looking forward to the future now.”

    “Thank you, President Chen.”

Without waiting for a response, Li Shen downed his drink in one gulp.

Chen Mo felt a little awkward.

He hadn’t done all this for such noble reasons—he just wanted to spend the system’s funds.

After Li Shen, other employees also came forward to offer toasts, growing bolder with each drink.

    Late Night.

With Yang Dahai supporting him, Chen Mo finally made it back upstairs.

The lively atmosphere had led to him drinking a few glasses, but he had completely forgotten his own low alcohol tolerance. A few drinks in, and he was already feeling lightheaded.

With no other choice, Yang Dahai had to bring him back early.

“How could you let Xiao Chen drink so much?”

Dong Hong looked at Chen Mo lying on the bed and couldn’t help but scold Yang Dahai.

Over the past few days, she and her family had grown very close to Chen Mo. He had never acted like a boss around them and always treated them with respect, as if they were elders.

This made Dong Hong very grateful, and unconsciously, a thought took root in her mind.

Her eldest daughter was currently a freshman in college, just a few years younger than Chen Mo.

When her daughter came home for break, maybe she could arrange for them to meet.

Young men like Chen Mo weren’t easy to find. If her daughter could be with him, it would be a blessing.

As she thought about it, she looked at the sleeping Chen Mo with increasing satisfaction.
