by MarineTLChapter 58: Cross-Province Retrieval of Case Files, There Must Be Connections Between the Cases!
Many murder cases are actually quite difficult to solve right from the initial investigation, as the killers nowadays are consciously avoiding surveillance cameras and other monitoring systems.
Basically, investigators usually extract useful clues from the victim’s body, the crime scene, and related personnel interrogations, then narrow down a range for further investigation.
After identifying suspects with potential criminal intent, a more detailed comparison and interrogation are conducted to confirm the final perpetrator.
This alternative method of exclusion is frequently used in criminal investigations.
…
At this moment, after listening to Su Ming’s analysis and the extracted characteristics of the suspect, Xu Changsheng nodded in agreement.
“Indeed, we can’t afford to waste any more time.”
“Although we haven’t found any decisive clues yet, the numerous fragmented inferences can certainly support an initial screening.”
“Excluding school staff at Shude Middle School or identifying potential suspects would be beneficial for the progress of the investigation.”
“Alright, I’ll have the technical department look into Shude Middle School’s staff right away.”
“We must identify any potential suspects!”
At this point, Xu Changsheng looked at the thin dog across the table, tapping the desk as he calmly asked.
“Thin Dog.”
“Although you’ve provided a lot of information, something just occurred to me.”
“Earlier, you said that this criminal organization controls at least fifty percent of the drug trade in the Dragon Kingdom, but you’ve never even met your superior. How did you come to that conclusion?”
“Moreover, a drug organization this large has managed to remain hidden for so long. Isn’t that a bit strange?”
The thin dog, sitting in the interrogation chair, showed a slightly fearful expression but responded confidently.
“Officer, fifty percent is just my guess.”
“But I think…”
“If you dig deeper and investigate the specific trade shares and networks, the actual scale might be even more shocking than I mentioned.”
“As for how I knew about it, I can only say that, while we’re not as sophisticated as the police, we street-level drug dealers have our own sources of information.”
“When I first got targeted by them, I thought about running, but the key was figuring out how big their organization really was.”
“So the next day, I immediately contacted various connections and asked my drug dealer friends in surrounding cities if they had access to high-purity white powder.”
“Half of them said… yes!”
“Except for that organization, I think no one else would be willing to buy such high-purity drugs.”
“As for why they’ve been able to remain hidden for so long, maybe it’s because no one dares to give them up.”
“Or maybe before anyone could talk, those people were already taken care of…”
Xu Changsheng thoughtfully nodded and then gathered the interrogation materials, slowly standing up.
“Alright, this is where we’ll end the interrogation for now.”
“Thin Dog, you’ll stay at the police station for the time being, no need to return to the detention center for now.”
“If anything else comes up, we’ll come to you first.”
Then, Xu Changsheng stood up and, along with Su Ming, prepared to conclude the interrogation and move on to the next step.
Just as they were about to open the door and leave the interrogation room, Thin Dog suddenly remembered something and hurriedly turned to Xu Changsheng, pulling on the chair.
“Officer, Officer.”
“My daughter, my daughter! They’re definitely going to…”
Before Thin Dog could finish, Xu Changsheng turned around and cut him off, speaking with urgency.
“Don’t worry.”
“Since we’re aware of this situation, we’ll make sure to ensure the safety of your family to the maximum extent.”
“I’ll have some plainclothes officers stationed nearby to keep an eye out for any potential suspects.”
“You don’t need to worry about that.”
“Right now, all you need to do is think carefully and let me know if you recall any other critical clues or issues.”
After saying this, Xu Changsheng closed the interrogation room door.
Walking alongside him, Su Ming thought for a few seconds before looking at Xu Changsheng and asking.
“Brother Sheng.”
“I’d like to cross-city and retrieve the files on the Tie San case. I hope to find some useful clues.”
“Since the killer of this falling case comes from the same organization that threatened Tie San, maybe there’s a connection between the two.”
“Even if there’s none…”
“At least we might be able to uncover some information about this large criminal organization.”
Xu Changsheng naturally didn’t oppose Su Ming’s suggestion. After all, Su Ming had once found valuable clues from case files dating back twenty years.
He waved his hand in agreement.
“Alright, no problem.”
“But time’s tight, so don’t go through the usual lengthy process for cross-city or cross-province case file retrieval.”
“You go directly to Director Lin’s office. Have him help expedite the process and get special permission for the files, while also mentioning this large drug organization.”
“This case is really giving me the chills with what’s been uncovered!”
With that, Xu Changsheng headed toward the criminal investigation technical department to use the police’s citizen database to filter and identify potential suspects among Shude Middle School’s staff.
Su Ming walked up to the director’s office and knocked lightly.
Knock—knock—knock—
“Come in, the door’s not locked.”
A hoarse voice from Lin Tian responded.
Su Ming turned the doorknob and entered the office.
As soon as he stepped in, the thick smell of smoke hit him, and the office was shrouded in a thin haze.
Looking toward the desk, he saw Lin Tian with his right elbow resting on the table, his forearm raised, and his index and middle fingers holding a nearly burned-out cigarette.
From the still-intact ash on the half-burnt cigarette, it was clear that Lin Tian hadn’t smoked for several minutes.
The nearby ashtray contained at least two packs’ worth of cigarette butts, with most of them still showing no signs of yellowing from excessive smoking.
It was obvious that Lin Tian had simply lit the cigarettes… and was holding them.
Su Ming walked up and noticed that Lin Tian’s left hand was pressing down on the 5.13 Magic City University dismemberment case files.
It seemed that Xu Changsheng’s earlier comment about having found nearly twenty-year-old clues from these files had made Lin Tian so focused on them, hoping to make further progress and catch the perpetrators of this significant case.
As Su Ming got closer, Lin Tian extinguished his cigarette, pushed the dismemberment case files aside, and looked at Su Ming with a faint smile.
“What’s up, Xiao Ming?”
“Is there a problem with the falling case? Tell me what’s going on.”
Before Su Ming could respond, the phone on the desk rang loudly.
Lin Tian glanced at the caller ID, then raised his hand, signaling Su Ming to wait, and answered the call somewhat impatiently.
“Hello, Principal Qu.”
“The case is still under investigation. Is there something specific you’re calling about?”
After a brief pause, as if waiting for the other side to speak, Lin Tian continued.
“Don’t worry, Principal Qu.”
“We should have a conclusion soon. I understand the difficulties your school is facing.”
“For juvenile cases, the media and public opinion bring a lot of pressure.”
“But we can’t just make up an excuse to satisfy them, right?”
“No matter how big the case gets, we need to get to the bottom of it.”
“Alright, that’s enough.”
“Please don’t keep calling.”
“If there are any developments, I’ll contact you.”
“Goodbye…”
