Chapter 124: Touring the Clothing Factory

“I’m Chen Jingrui, but I didn’t buy any appliances. What appliances are you delivering?”

Chen Jingrui looked at the deliverymen at the door, speaking in confusion.

“Oh, I bought them. Just bring them in. You’re responsible for installation too, right?”

Upon hearing the conversation at the door, Chen Mo rushed over.

“Yes, we’ll install everything for you.”

The deliveryman responded while directing the others outside to carry the appliances into the house.

“Son, what appliances did you buy?”

Seeing one appliance brought in and being told there was more, Chen Jingrui couldn’t help but turn to ask Chen Mo.

“I just bought an air conditioner, washing machine, refrigerator, water heater, LCD TV, and a foot spa.”

    Chen Mo replied casually.

“Why did you buy so many? The ones at home still work. Isn’t this a waste?”

Before the father could speak, his mother had already come over.

“If it really won’t do, then just return them.”

“Mom, the money’s already paid and the installers are here. We can’t return them now. Besides, our old appliances are way outdated. It’s time to replace them. Plus, I’ve made a bit of money from work.”

Chen Mo quickly stopped his mother, afraid she might go out and try to return everything.

He felt secretly relieved he had gone with the “act first, explain later” approach.

Otherwise, he might not have been able to buy them at all.

“These must’ve cost a lot. You worked hard for your money. You should’ve saved it for yourself.”

Yang Xiulian muttered as she watched the appliances being carried in one by one.

“Mom, it wasn’t expensive. The mall was having a sale, everything was discounted—really cheap.”

Chen Mo quickly comforted her, knowing she was always careful with money.

His parents had lived frugally their entire lives, and the only thing they never skimped on was him.

In the end, with Chen Mo’s half-truths and persuasion, the appliances were successfully installed.

The old appliances were also picked up by someone who bought used electronics for cash.

    That night,

When Chen Mo came out of his room to use the bathroom, he accidentally saw his parents watching TV while fighting over the foot spa.

    He smiled quietly.

    …………

    In Jiang City,

    At an old residential community.

Yang Dahai’s family welcomed their eldest daughter home.

“Yao Yao, what am I going to do with you? I gave you that money to spend, why did you bring it all back?”

Dong Hong looked at the money her daughter returned—untouched from the last time she transferred it—and spoke with a trace of heartache.

“Mom, I know exactly what our family’s situation is. Keep the money for yourselves, or buy something nice for little sis. I have a part-time job off campus, and I also have a scholarship. It’s more than enough.”

Yang Yaoyao replied seriously, looking at her mother.

She understood her family’s situation better than anyone. That amount of money her mother had sent her must’ve taken a long time to save up.

“You silly girl, why won’t you believe me? Your dad and I really did find good jobs. Right now, together we already make…”

Dong Hong hesitated. How much was it again? She remembered that recently, Boss Chen gave everyone a raise, but she couldn’t recall the exact number.

“At least over sixteen thousand. So you really don’t have to worry about the family anymore. You can stop working part-time, focus on school.”

    “Really?”

Yang Yaoyao looked at her mother’s momentary hesitation, instinctively doubtful.

Given what she knew of her parents’ abilities, it was hard to believe any company would pay them that much.

Over sixteen thousand combined meant over eight thousand each—that’s more than what a lot of fresh college grads make!

She felt more and more like her parents had made this up just to ease her mind.

“Yang Dahai, come explain to your daughter.”

Dong Hong looked helplessly at her daughter’s disbelief.

    “Alright!”

Yang Dahai responded, took out a metal box from the room, and placed it on the table in front of Yang Yaoyao.

Then, with a touch of ceremony, he took out two labor contracts and slid them in front of his daughter.

“These are the employment contracts your mom and I signed. Take a look.”

Yang Yaoyao picked them up and read carefully—sure enough, they were legitimate contracts.

“And see that car downstairs? That’s the company car I drive to pick up and drop off the boss every day.”

Seeing she finished reading, Yang Dahai led her to the window and pointed at a business car below.

As he spoke, he even pressed the key fob and toggled the lights.

When Yang Yaoyao saw the key truly worked for that car and thought back to the contract, she finally believed her parents really had found decent jobs.

“Dad, who exactly is the boss of this company? He’s not making you do anything illegal, right?”

Yang Yaoyao asked with concern. She was worried that someone might be taking advantage of her parents’ lack of knowledge and making them do shady work.

“What kind of question is that? I cook in the cafeteria every day, and your dad just drives. What illegal stuff could we possibly be doing? Don’t say things like that again. President Chen is a very good man.”

Dong Hong quickly replied, unable to hold back.

“Yeah! Brother Chen is super nice!”

Little Yang Duoduo also raised her hand and chimed in.

Seeing even her little sister defend this President Chen, Yang Yaoyao became more curious.

If everything her parents said was true, she really wanted to see what kind of company this was—one that paid so well.

“How about this: since we have nothing else to do today, I’ll take you to the company. That way, you can stop worrying.”

Yang Dahai thought for a moment and then suggested.

    “Can we?”

Yang Yaoyao looked up at her father. After all, it was currently the holidays.

“It’s fine. I saw in the company group chat that some employees who live on-site haven’t gone home. They’re still there.”

    Yang Dahai replied.

“I wanna go too! I wanna see Brother Chen’s company!”

Yang Duoduo bounced and raised her hand excitedly.

    “Alright, then we’ll all go.”

    Not long after,

The whole family changed into fresh clothes, went downstairs, hailed a taxi, and headed for the clothing factory.

Yang Dahai didn’t take the company car since it was a personal trip during the holiday. Driving the company vehicle would’ve been inappropriate.

    At the factory,

The family got out of the taxi one after another.

Yang Duoduo turned her little head, looking around curiously, trying to spot Brother Chen’s company.

Though curious, Yang Yaoyao didn’t have high expectations. No matter how nice a factory was, it was still just a factory.

She came only to confirm whether it was a legitimate business—if there were any safety hazards or illegal activities going on.
