I Have A Store C248
by MarineTLChapter 248: Brought to Justice
When Zhou Dafu heard Zhou Yimin’s words, he was completely stunned. Once he processed what had been said, he anxiously asked, “Uncle Sixteen, are you sure you didn’t see it wrong? I just saw him coming out of the Subdistrict Office.”
“And I don’t even know him—how could he be so sure I’m the one who paid to buy a job post?”
“Walk me through everything that happened,” Zhou Yimin said.
Zhou Dafu hurriedly explained the entire sequence of events.
Zhou Yimin was nearly certain that this guy had been targeted for a while.
“Dafu, he must’ve started watching you when you went to the steel factory and chatted with the gatekeeper. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of setting up a trap just for you to walk into. We need to go to the Subdistrict Office right now and find that guy. If he escapes Four-Nine City, you’ll never get your money back.”
Zhou Dafu, now both anxious and furious, began swearing up a storm.
It was obvious he’d completely lost his composure.
After all, that money was his entire fortune—and more than that, he’d even borrowed from others. If his parents found out, they’d beat him half to death. What nerve, taking out so many loans.
Zhou Dafu rushed off with Zhou Yimin toward the Subdistrict Office. He was in such a panic he practically sprinted there like he was running a 100-meter dash.
The two of them arrived at the Subdistrict Office. Grandpa Guo, the security guard, saw them and greeted them.
Zhou Yimin said, “Grandpa Guo, we’ll catch up later. We have something urgent—we need to speak to Director Li right away.”
With that, he took Zhou Dafu straight to Director Li’s office.
Luckily, Director Li hadn’t left work yet—otherwise, they would’ve had to go to her house.
Seeing the two men rush in looking flustered, Director Li asked, “What’s going on? Why are you two in such a hurry?”
“Dafu just bought a job post at the steel factory from some middle-aged man. But I could tell right away the transfer agreement was fake. So I brought him here to see if you could help us track the guy down,” Zhou Yimin explained.
Director Li immediately understood the seriousness. Buying a job wasn’t a small sum—we’re talking hundreds of yuan. She quickly said, “Yimin, this kind of thing should be reported to the police. Come on, let’s go to the station.”
“Dafu said the guy had just come here with him, and he looks like someone who’s been to the office before. That’s why I thought to ask if any of the staff here recognized him,” Zhou Yimin explained.
Director Li’s expression darkened.
“You two, come with me. I’ll go ask around.”
She quickly walked to the clerks’ office.
Everyone had been getting ready to leave, but when they saw Director Li enter, they all paused, sensing her bad mood and not daring to provoke her.
She asked directly, “Did a middle-aged man come in earlier to handle some kind of job transfer paperwork?”
Everyone looked at each other in confusion and shook their heads.
Director Li frowned.
Just then, Clerk Liao spoke up: “Middle-aged man… Could it have been Yang Daguo? But he wasn’t here to transfer a job. He came to get a referral letter—said he was heading south to look for opportunities.”
Director Li asked, “You mean that street hustler, Yang Daguo?”
“That’s right, Director Li, it was him,” Clerk Liao confirmed.
Hearing this, Director Li was almost certain it was the guy. Petty theft was one thing, but to con someone out of this much money—unthinkable. She immediately said, “Xiao Liao, go with Yimin and the others to the police station, then to Yang Daguo’s home to see if it’s really him.”
Clerk Liao was speechless. He had hoped to pass this trouble along—only to get hit with an even bigger headache. Still, he quickly said, “Yes, Director Li, I’ll go right now.”
Zhou Yimin then led the group to the police station.
The station wasn’t far from the Subdistrict Office—less than a ten-minute walk. Joint enforcement was pretty easy in situations like this.
Once they got to the station, Clerk Liao quickly explained the whole situation.
The officers immediately recognized this as a major case—720 yuan was involved. In more serious terms, this could’ve warranted a bullet.
Director Zhang of the station personally mobilized a team and led them to Yang Daguo’s residence, with Clerk Liao in tow.
To be cautious—since he didn’t know if the suspect was still home—Director Zhang instructed the team to ready their gear in case of resistance.
One of the officers gave the door a solid kick, knocking it open.
Yang Daguo and Wu Fei were lying on the bed and jolted upright in fright. They had train tickets for the next morning, ready to leave Four-Nine City.
“Who the hell kicks open my door like that? Are you tired of living?” Yang Daguo shouted in anger.
Just then, several officers rushed in with weapons drawn, aiming them at the two men.
Terrified, Yang Daguo raised his hands. Recognizing a familiar face, he immediately said, “Director Zhang, this must be a misunderstanding! I didn’t do anything wrong—no need for all this drama, right?”
Director Zhang sneered. “You conned someone out of 720 yuan and claim you didn’t do anything wrong? What do you call that, then?”
A military veteran, Director Zhang had no patience for guys like this. Normally, for petty stuff, he’d let the Subdistrict Office handle it, but this guy had clearly grown bold.
Upon hearing this, Yang Daguo and Wu Fei collapsed to the floor.
They never imagined that bumpkin would react so fast—he hadn’t even gone to the steel factory yet, so how had the fake agreement been exposed already?
“I didn’t scam anyone, Director Zhang,” Yang Daguo stammered.
Director Zhang was disgusted that they were still trying to lie and shouted toward the door, “Clerk Liao, you can bring them in now.”
Hearing this, Clerk Liao led Zhou Yimin and Zhou Dafu inside.
Yang Daguo and Wu Fei had been hoping to lie their way out, but seeing the victims appear in person, they realized there was no escaping now. They slumped to the floor, knowing exactly what fate awaited them.
They’d never expected things to turn out like this. If they had known, they wouldn’t have dared try to cheat anyone out of that money.
Director Zhang wasn’t sympathetic. He waved his hand. “Take them both back to the station.”
No way he was going to miss out on such an easy collar—and there was something even more important.
He had heard Zhou Yimin’s name plenty of times but had never had the chance to meet him. Now the opportunity had come knocking.
Seeing Yang Daguo caught, Clerk Liao said, “Team Leader Zhou, Director Zhang, I need to return to report to Director Li, so I’ll head back first.”
“Clerk Liao, thank you for your help today,” Zhou Yimin said.
Director Zhang nodded as well.
Clerk Liao left without looking back. As soon as he stepped outside, he couldn’t help wiping sweat from his forehead.
If Yang Daguo had gotten away, he would’ve been in big trouble.
But things had worked out. With Yang Daguo caught, that poisonous sore was finally gone from his district—no more headaches over his antics. Even if they didn’t end up with a bullet, 720 yuan was still enough to land them years behind bars.
Thinking that, Clerk Liao suddenly felt much better.
