by MarineTLChapter 2: Unlocking the Car Door in Three Seconds
In the Huaihai Criminal Investigation Team parking lot.
Xu Changsheng was walking toward his private car while discussing the current arrest operation.
“This operation is targeting the Western-type drugs, commonly known as heroin.”
“The information was provided by an informant, and it’s highly accurate with a large quantity of drugs involved.”
“According to the informant’s intel…”
“The buyer intends to purchase five batches of Western-type drugs, five grams per batch, that’s already twenty-five grams.”
“As for the seller…”
“He’s a seasoned criminal, already having served time. If he’s caught again for drug trafficking, even if he doesn’t get the death penalty, he’ll definitely spend the rest of his life in prison.”
“The buyer and the seller are making their first transaction and aren’t familiar with each other.”
“They’ve arranged the deal at Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, a busy area with lots of tourists and foot traffic, which will effectively cover their tracks.”
“These are the methods of experienced criminals.”
As Xu Changsheng said, real drug traffickers often choose public places for their transactions.
In fact, they usually avoid secluded corners and prefer crowded areas.
More people means better cover.
Especially since both parties are unfamiliar with each other, they fear the police might be conducting a sting operation.
“To prevent them from noticing and canceling the transaction, we’re using plainclothes officers¹.”
“In addition to the three of us, there are more than ten others involved in this operation, hiding in various corners and locations.”
“You two should stick with me, so we don’t make any moves that might alert them.”
“By the way, Chief Lin just said…”
“From now on, you two follow me, but you don’t need to call me ‘Sir,’ that makes me feel too old.”
“Just call me ‘Brother’—I’m only a year older than you, it’s not like I’m taking advantage.”
After Xu Changsheng explained the basic details of the operation and subsequent arrangements, both Su Ming and Wang Hu nodded in unison and replied.
“Got it!”
The three of them walked side by side to their car.
Xu Changsheng reached into his pocket, but suddenly stopped, checking every pocket and realizing he didn’t have the car key.
He quickly approached the window and saw the keys on the seat, slapping his thigh in frustration.
“Damn it!”
“I left the car keys inside, now we’re in trouble. We need to call someone to unlock it!”
“We need to act fast, or the operation will be compromised!”
Xu Changsheng sighed, feeling a bit annoyed, and looked at Su Ming and Wang Hu beside him.
“That’s my problem—I’m fine with everything, but I always forget the little things. I often end up losing stuff.”
“This is the third time I’ve left the keys in the car.”
“Alright, I’ll call the locksmith, I’m getting pretty familiar with this.”
To ease the awkward situation, Wang Hu, quick on his feet, noticed a vending machine nearby and tried to break the tension.
“Brother Sheng, Brother Ming, do you want something to drink?”
“I’ll grab a bottle while we wait for the locksmith. We’re probably going to have to stake out for a while.”
Xu Changsheng wasn’t really paying attention, waving his hand casually.
“Anything’s fine.”
“You decide.”
He then slammed his hand on the car roof.
“Dammit!”
“Where the heck is the locksmith? Why isn’t he answering the phone?”
Su Ming looked around for a moment, then quickly walked over to a nearby iron fence, ripped off a piece of thin wire, and walked back to the car door.
“Brother Sheng, move aside.”
“Let me see if I can unlock it.”
Xu Changsheng, about to dial another locksmith, saw the thin wire in Su Ming’s hand and instinctively stepped aside. However, he didn’t have much hope.
“Alright.”
“Su Ming, give it a try, I’ll find another number for the locksmith.”
He then returned to searching for a nearby locksmith shop.
But three seconds later…
“Click—”
The sharp sound of the lock opening echoed.
Su Ming opened the car door without a care and said, “Done, Brother Sheng.”
“Let’s hurry to the designated spot and prepare for the operation.”
Xu Changsheng froze, still holding his phone to his ear, hearing the locksmith’s voice on the line.
“Hello?”
“Hello? Who’s there?”
“Say something, you idiot!”
As the call was disconnected, Xu Changsheng immediately realized what happened and gave Su Ming a long look at the wire in his hand.
Quickly picking up the keys, he started the car.
“Let’s go, get in!”
Su Ming shoved the wire into his pocket, opened the passenger door, and called out to Wang Hu, who was still at the vending machine.
“Huozi, let’s go!”
Seeing the car already started, Wang Hu froze for a moment, then, clutching a pile of water and drinks, quickly ran over.
“Damn it, coming, coming, wait for me!”
…
The car started and headed toward Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street.
Xu Changsheng glanced at Su Ming, whose gaze was firm, and casually asked, “Who taught you this?”
“That was fast, even faster than some seasoned locksmiths.”
Su Ming didn’t answer immediately. In his mind, he was recalling the countless criminal simulations he had participated in, where he had to use lock-picking skills for thefts or break-ins.
To be honest, Su Ming’s lock-picking skills were nearly on par with a lifetime locksmiths.
As for other skills, they weren’t far behind either, thanks to the enhancements from a hundred thousand criminal simulations.
Shaking off those thoughts, Su Ming shrugged casually and replied, “I learned it online.”
“Honestly, it’s not that hard. As long as you practice, anyone can master it.”
Xu Changsheng wasn’t surprised by the casual response and didn’t press further. He smiled and said, “No wonder you were the first in the police exam in years. You can learn lock-picking skills just by watching a few videos online.”
“By the way…”
“If you weren’t a detective, I’d probably have had you register for the locksmith’s license just now.”
Su Ming glanced out the window, his eyes flashing with thoughts.
“If I weren’t a detective, the number of unsolved cases in this world would probably be unimaginable.”
“With a hundred thousand simulations, the perfect crime is already at my fingertips.”
As Xu Changsheng and Su Ming were talking, Wang Hu, sitting in the back seat with his arms full of drinks, was confused.
He glanced back and forth between Su Ming and Xu Changsheng.
What the hell?
Is it supposed to be this exaggerated?!
He just bought a few bottles of water, why can’t I keep up with the conversation?!!
