    Chapter 119: The Doomsday Martyr – 2

“Are you out of your mind? Talking to me like that… don’t you want me to help you out once I make it big? Don’t act like you’re the only one sacrificing anything. I’m working hard too! I recently got close to a squad leader. I’ll definitely take you with me to the lower levels, to see what life is like deeper underground.”

Ren Xin let out a cold snort. “I’m not interested in your indigestible pipe dreams. I’ve made up my mind: from now on, we go our separate ways. I’m giving you until noon to move out. If you don’t, I’ll throw you out myself. Aren’t you getting along famously with that Xie Mingyi guy? You can go sell your dreams in his bed; I’m sure he’d love a taste.”

    “You…”

Ren Xin looked at her coldly. “Or would you rather get lost right now? Either way works for me. I’m very accommodating!”

Seeing that Ren Xin seemed genuinely furious, Ren Yi softened her tone. “Sister, you promised Mom and Dad that you would take care of me. Have you forgotten? I’ve never had to work outside before. You can’t just abandon me like this.”

Ren Xin replied with total indifference, “Oh, I certainly can. In a world like this, staying alive is the only thing that matters. Promises don’t mean squat. If you’re not happy about it, go find Mom and Dad in the afterlife and take it up with them. Tell them I broke my word and I’m untrustworthy.”

Ren Yi talked until her lips were dry, but Ren Xin remained unmoved.

“Time’s up. Looks like I’ll have to do this myself.”

As Ren Xin spoke, she stood up, grabbed Ren Yi by the collar, and dragged her toward the door before tossing her out. Ren Xin then clapped her hands clean. “Don’t mention it. As for your things, I’ll sell them secondhand. They should be worth a bit of money. As for you, feel free to drop dead wherever you like!”

    Bang!

The door slammed shut. Only then did it sink in for Ren Yi that Ren Xin was serious. She began pounding on the door incessantly, trying to get Ren Xin to open up.

This drew the ire of the other neighbors. “You stupid bitch! If you’re looking to die, go outside! Don’t disturb our sleep or I’ll kill you myself!”

A group of fierce-looking men shouted abuse at Ren Yi, showing absolutely no chivalry. Nowadays, everyone was struggling just to survive; no one had the sympathy to spare for someone else’s plight.

It seemed only the original owner of this body had been a freak of nature; everyone else was living with their eyes wide open.

Left with no choice, Ren Yi went to find Xie Mingyi. The only person who could help her now was this childhood friend from next door.

To her surprise, when Xie Mingyi heard the news, he spoke with disbelief. “Ren Xin would never do something like that. There must be some misunderstanding. You two sisters just need to talk it out.”

“Sister might already know about the relationship between us.”

Xie Mingyi’s expression shifted instantly. “Did you let something slip?”

Ren Yi tried to explain herself, feeling wronged and insisting she hadn’t said a word. Xie Mingyi didn’t believe her at all. The mere thought of losing such a convenient, free ATM made his heart ache.

“It’s not convenient for me to let you stay here, either. You know I’m sharing this place with several other guys. It wouldn’t be right.”

Ren Yi was on the verge of tears. What was she supposed to do?

“I think you should swallow your pride and go back to Ren Xin. Coax her a bit. After all, she’s always listened to you. Just stabilize her for now, and we can figure out the rest later.”

Ren Yi had no other choice but to try.

However, by the time Ren Yi went back to try and smooth things over, she found the place empty.

The next tenant was already carrying their luggage in, finalizing the move-in process. The safe zone never lacked for tenants; as long as there was a vacant room, people would fight over it.

Ren Yi demanded loudly, “Where’s the person who lived here before?”

The agent replied impatiently, “Gone. If you don’t have business here, get moving. Don’t get in the way.”

Ren Yi still couldn’t believe it, but the safe zone was massive. Trying to find a single person was like searching for a needle in a haystack. Finally, she was forced to face reality: Ren Xin had truly vanished.

    Her sister had abandoned her.
