Good Baby C03
by MarineTLChapter 3
The hat that Fan Chunxiang had knitted was indeed exquisite and cute. Even unmarried people, upon seeing it, couldn’t help but think about buying one for their younger relatives. However, that didn’t mean they would snatch it off someone’s child’s head.
An’an, holding his head with a nervous and guarded look on his face, looked so adorable. The aunt, who had no intentions earlier, squatted down in front of him and reached out to touch the ears of the little tiger hat.
“Ah, what should I do if I like this, huh?”
Xie Shi’an furrowed his brow, leaned back slightly, and gently shook his head. He then pointed to the remaining items on the stall.
“Ah, buy it~”
Fan Chunxiang was stunned when she heard An’an speak. It took her a while to snap back to her senses. She put down what she was holding and crouched in front of An’an, holding his little hand.
She couldn’t speak, and An’an didn’t understand sign language, so she could only look at him with eyes full of expectation, hoping he would say something again.
An’an didn’t know why his mother was suddenly so happy. He was worried that the aunt wouldn’t want to buy anything else, so he persistently said:
“Pretty~”
“Yes, very beautiful.”
A child so small trying to sell something with all his might, combined with the aunt’s original desire to buy, led to her purchasing everything that was left on Fan Chunxiang’s stall.
After paying, before leaving, she said a few words to Fan Chunxiang.
“Your child is really cute. I hope my child can be like this.”
The little one, who had been praised as cute, would have had his tail up in the air if he had one, lightly shaking his head and humming along to the song from the park’s broadcast.
Not only had she sold all her goods today, but An’an also spoke. A smile had never left Fan Chunxiang’s face.
In the afternoon, when she took An’an to the market to buy vegetables, she even bought a piece of meat, intending to celebrate.
Raising a child meant Li Datiao was becoming busier every day.
It was hard work, but just thinking of the scene where his son would come over and kiss his cheek, the exhaustion seemed sweet in his heart.
Their lives, as a couple, had a new direction because of the arrival of this child.
Since System 250 discovered that it had spent half a lifetime accumulating points only to receive a small ancestor who had lived for many years but was actually not very useful, it no longer acted so stingy.
It had become quite adept at enjoying life and occasionally rewarding itself. For example, right now, it was eating sunflower seeds while watching the host’s growth status through the electronic screen.
Rather than saying it was working together with the host to complete tasks, it was more like being a system dad, raising the baby virtually every day.
Someone as lucky as Xie Shi’an typically didn’t have bad looks.
Even though their family circumstances weren’t great, Fan Chunxiang and Li Datiao were willing to spend money on this child, who had grown up white and chubby.
The system remembered how An’an looked when he first arrived in this world. It had watched this little one grow, and the joy of raising him was something not just anyone could experience.
Recently, An’an had started learning to speak. Little words occasionally came out in his babyish voice.
One day, Li Datiao came home as usual. As soon as he entered the door and put down his things, he eagerly pulled a lollipop from his pocket and offered it to An’an.
When An’an was with his parents, he was practically a kiss maniac.
His little hand tugged on his father’s somewhat dirty coat, and Li Datiao bent down in understanding. An’an stood on tiptoe, leaned to the side of his face, and kissed him.
Every time Li Datiao came home, Fan Chunxiang, no matter what she was doing, would always come out to take a look. This time was no exception.
After Li Datiao washed his hands, he began to unwrap the lollipop for An’an. Holding the lollipop stick in his little hand, An’an said a few words in his unclear baby voice.
“Xie xie, daddy~”
Li Datiao couldn’t hear what the child said, but from his lip movements, he could roughly guess that he had spoken. Just as he was about to turn around and tidy up the scrap he had picked up, he saw Fan Chunxiang gesturing with her finger.
An’an, called you daddy.
Li Datiao’s body instantly froze, and in the excited gaze of a grown man, there were a few tears welling up.
He glanced at the little one, who was focused on the lollipop, and then at Fan Chunxiang.
Fan Chunxiang nodded at him, confirming that there was no mistake. Li Datiao’s lips almost stretched to the back of his ears in a smile.
Although he couldn’t hear it, he could imagine that his son calling him “daddy” was probably the most wonderful sound in the world.
The yarn wasn’t expensive, Fan Chunxiang was patient, and her skills were good. Plus, with An’an as the unbeatable cute model, her business was doing really well.
When the end of the month came, Fan Chunxiang calculated the money she had made that month. After deducting the cost of the yarn, she had earned about two thousand yuan.
She didn’t touch a single cent and chose to deposit it in the bank. After storing it, she placed the thin passbook in her bag, holding An’an and preparing to head home when she happened to see the nearby kindergarten.
The children were engaging in outdoor activities, wearing clean and beautiful clothes.
Fan Chunxiang instinctively looked at An’an. The little guy didn’t notice his mother’s thoughts at all and was completely focused on the new gloves he was wearing.
The new gloves had cute little rabbits knitted on them. After An’an put them on, he couldn’t bear to take them off. When he met familiar faces on the street, he would purposely wave his little hand, acting very proud.
Seeing her son’s reaction made Fan Chunxiang realize that she had been overthinking. She kissed An’an’s cheek.
Since this little guy had come into their lives, he had always been so sensible. Adults often wonder whether their children are dissatisfied with their current situation, seeing the carefree children in the kindergarten and yearning for a different life.
They end up blaming themselves for not being able to provide better conditions for their children.
Caught in this endless cycle of self-blame, it’s hard to break free.
But in reality, kids don’t have that many thoughts. Just like An’an, he wouldn’t even notice how carefree the children in the kindergarten were. He only cared about how cute his gloves were.
When his mother knitted them for him, An’an had stayed by her side, watching as the yarn in his mother’s skilled hands gradually turned into cute and delicate plush gloves.
The little one, who had been admiring his gloves, shifted his attention to his mother and he reached out to hug her neck, also kissing her back.
“Mama~”
Fan Chunxiang took him to the market. That day, there happened to be some very fresh shrimp. After asking the price, Fan Chunxiang felt a little conflicted.
These lively shrimp were priced at forty yuan per jin. For their family, this was a bit too expensive.
But when she looked down at her son’s clean eyes, Fan Chunxiang gritted her teeth and asked the vendor to weigh half a jin.
The vendor was a kind-hearted middle-aged woman. From the shabby clothes on Fan Chunxiang, she could tell that their life wasn’t very good. After packing the shrimp into a plastic bag, she tore a small hole in the corner, allowing the water from the shrimp to drain out.
After weighing, she put a large one in the bag and handed it to Fan Chunxiang.
That evening, when Li Datiao came home and saw the shrimp, he could guess they weren’t cheap. However, he didn’t say anything. After washing his hands, he took An’an outside to play in the yard, pulling out a small toy from his pocket.
Every day when he came home, he would bring something for An’an, sometimes a lollipop that cost fifty cents, sometimes a small pinwheel that cost two yuan.
The little An’an gradually got used to this life. Waiting for his father to return every day became the thing he looked forward to the most.
As the weather grew colder, the leaves on the parasol tree in the yard turned yellow. With the autumn wind, they fell, making a crisp sound when stepped on.
Once An’an noticed this, he refused to walk obediently. Instead, he started hopping a few steps, causing the ears on his hat to wiggle with each movement.
System 250’s attention was drawn to the little guy’s restless movements. Watching An’an, who had developed some baby fat, the sense of accomplishment from watching him grow made it feel an urge to push its elbows outward.
Fan Chunxiang’s business was thriving. Whenever she had time, she would knit new things. The money she earned each month was even more than what Li Datiao made.
Li Datiao didn’t feel embarrassed by being surpassed by his wife. Instead, he took on more of the household chores and, after finishing, looked at the still-early evening and decided to take An’an out for a stroll.
Ever since An’an learned to walk, he loved to run by himself. Unlike before when he relied on his father to carry him everywhere, Li Datiao took a while to adjust to this difference.
Everyone in this small alley knew the deaf-mute couple who lived in the most remote corner. The fact that they had adopted a child was discussed for a long time.
They were usually too busy to notice much, but when a neighbor saw An’an for the first time, they were somewhat surprised.
This child was unusually beautiful.
