Era-Ch43
by MarineTLChapter 43: All Based on Skill, No Empty Claims
Splash!
Splash!
A sudden downpour came without warning, its raindrops hitting the leaves with a “whoosh” sound, and everything went silent for a moment, leaving only the white noise of the rain and occasional thunder.
Lin Heng’s arrow flew through the air like a black lightning bolt, elegantly arcing through the sky. Whether it was the wind playing tricks or his own nervousness, the arrow failed to hit its target accurately and instead struck the wild boar’s hindquarters.
“Yow!”
Amidst the sound of the pouring rain, the wild boar let out a shrill scream, and the pain caused its adrenaline to surge as it sprinted away.
At the same time, both Xiongba and Lin Heng chased after it.
In the heavy rain, Xiongba ran like a cheetah, its powerful limbs blurring with speed, its head bobbing up and down, its ears flapping wildly.
At that moment, Lin Heng didn’t think about anything else. He didn’t even bother to put on a raincoat. He just focused on the boar’s figure and ran after it frantically.
It was like a fisherman’s line being pulled by a fish; he couldn’t think about anything else and dove into the water to chase.
However, the speed and strength required to run for your life were different from the strength needed to chase prey. Gradually, the wild boar’s figure disappeared into the rainforest.
“Wang, Wang!” Xiongba barked, trying to catch the scent of the blood left on the ground.
“Hurry up, Xiongba! Once we catch this, we won’t have to deal with Xiaoxia bothering you for a month,” Lin Heng said, panting, his hands on his knees.
The few hundred meters he had just run felt like it nearly drained the life out of him. His heart and lungs felt as if they were about to explode.
“Wang!”
Upon hearing this, Xiongba’s ears perked up, and it sprinted ahead.
Lin Heng caught his breath for a moment, then followed Xiongba.
Although the wild boar was injured, Lin Heng didn’t have much hope. The heavy rain obscured the scent, washing away the blood traces, making it harder to find.
It seemed that Xiongba was especially motivated by his words.
Lin Heng took out a thin plastic sheet and covered himself, unable to withstand the rain as he shivered in the cold.
After more than ten minutes without any results, and no blood to be seen on the ground, Lin Heng sighed.
“Let’s go, Xiongba. Time to head home,” he said, shaking his head.
“Wang Wang!”
Xiongba glanced back at him with its faint golden eyes, filled with determination, and then continued searching the ground for any clues.
“Alright, we’ll search for ten more minutes. If we don’t find it, we’ll head back,” Lin Heng said, accompanying the dog as they continued their search.
Boom!
The sky had already dimmed to the point where only the road was barely visible. Thunder and lightning cracked in the sky, and the sound of rain mixed with the thudding of Lin Heng’s footsteps made him feel like a wandering hero.
Inside, he kept reflecting on his earlier actions. He felt he was still too nervous and should’ve gotten closer before shooting.
“Wang Wang!”
Suddenly, Xiongba barked twice and ran ahead.
“Did you find it?” Lin Heng’s face lit up as he hurried to catch up.
Catching up to Xiongba, he didn’t see the boar but saw a large pool of blood on the ground.
“It’s bleeding a lot, looks like it won’t last long!” Lin Heng exclaimed with excitement. He had initially thought his arrow only caused a superficial wound, but now it seemed to have hit the boar’s internal organs.
The blood trail was clear now, so there was no need for Xiongba to track it any longer.
“Wang Wang Wang!!”
A few minutes later, Xiongba howled beneath a large rock.
“Yow!”
The wild boar under the rock let out a fierce scream.
Lin Heng walked over and saw the boar curled up in the crack of the rock, still bleeding. Its black almond eyes were filled with fear, desperation, and anger.
“Gurgle~”
It seemed it had lost so much blood it could no longer make any sound. Blood foam appeared at its mouth, and its eyes showed only the desire to survive.
“Unfortunately, you’re not going to make it.”
Lin Heng shook his head and shot an arrow into its neck, quickly ending its life.
After it died, Lin Heng pulled the arrow out and confirmed it was dead before grabbing its front legs and pulling it out of the rock.
“No wonder it died. This arrow slanted into its belly!” Lin Heng looked at the arrow lodged in the boar’s left hindquarters and marveled at his luck.
If it had hit the center of the buttocks, it probably would have escaped.
He lifted the boar, weighing it in his hands, and couldn’t hold back a smile. “Definitely 20 pounds, maybe even 30 pounds!”
“Yow!”
Xiongba also happily trotted around, its tongue out and grinning.
“You’re half responsible!”
Lin Heng patted Xiongba and said with a laugh, “I’ll reward you properly when we get home.”
With that, he hoisted the wild boar onto his shoulder and began to head back. His body didn’t feel cold anymore, his waist wasn’t sore, and his legs didn’t ache.
If he had a phone, he would’ve definitely taken a picture and shared it online.
By the time Lin Heng and Xiongba reached the base of Red Maple Mountain, the sky had completely darkened. Although they were physically exhausted, their excitement overshadowed it all.
“Lin Heng, is that you?” A voice came from the distance, along with the light of a flashlight.
“What are you doing here?”
Lin Heng quickly walked over and saw his wife, Xiulan, holding a flashlight and wearing a raincoat.
“I came… you… you caught such a big prey??”
Xiulan paused halfway through her words when she saw the wild boar on Lin Heng’s shoulder. Her mouth and eyes widened in surprise.
“Hahaha, of course! I ran around an entire mountain for this!” Lin Heng laughed heartily, very pleased with his wife’s reaction.
Xiulan was still in shock. She walked closer and examined the boar, confirming it was a wild boar and that it had been killed by an arrow, not someone else’s pig.
“How did you catch it?” Xiulan asked in disbelief, struggling to believe that her husband had managed this.
She was so stunned that she forgot she had come to deliver the flashlight, and her gaze was completely fixed on the boar.
“Well, that’s a long story!” Lin Heng chuckled and began to boast about his skills.
He didn’t want to give up or lose hope midway, and he was certain the boar’s internal organs had been injured, which made it easier to catch.
He exaggerated his story like a fisherman who had caught a big fish, claiming that it wasn’t luck but pure skill.
“Of course, Xiongba played an indispensable role in all of this!” Lin Heng chuckled.
Xiongba looked directly at him with wide eyes: “Yow!”
It seemed to be thinking, “So this is the kind of master you are, aren’t you ashamed?”
“Impressive, really impressive!” Xiulan believed him, especially since the prey was right there.
Her eyes were filled with admiration as she reached out and patted the boar in shock. “How many days will this feed us? The fur could probably be sold for 30 or 40 yuan!”
