Chapter 75: Educated Youth Who Abandoned His Wife and Child – 6

Actually, Su Mingyue had noticed them the moment they walked over.

Cui Cui, who was following behind them, even kept winking at her, as if warning that the newcomers weren’t friendly.

Su Mingyue only had to think for a moment to understand what was going on—it was all because Huaizi liked Shen Xiuyan.

Huaizi was the best-looking girl in the village, and she used her beauty as leverage to suppress others, not allowing anyone else to “taint” Shen Xiuyan.

But Su Mingyue wasn’t afraid. Shen Xiuyan was hers now.

Even if he hadn’t been before, she still wouldn’t have been afraid. Getting into a relationship was supposed to be mutual—just because one person wanted it didn’t mean it was going to happen.

Huaizi had only managed to block many of Shen Xiuyan’s potential romances by taking advantage of the fact that he didn’t know what was going on. But would she dare let him know all the shady things she’d done?

What would he think of her then?

At this moment, Shen Xiuyan turned around when he heard the voice behind him.

He looked confused and asked, “Who are you?”

That expression delighted Su Mingyue, and she couldn’t help but giggle.

See? So what if she’s good-looking? If Brother Shen doesn’t like you, he won’t even remember what you look like.

Su Mingyue felt a little smug for a moment.

Huaizi shot her a glare when she heard the laugh, then quickly turned her head back, putting on her usual pure, sweet “white lotus” expression.

“It’s me! I took you to the educated youth point before. Last time when the team delivered supplies, I was the one who brought them to you. You really don’t remember at all?”

As she spoke, her eyes began to glisten with tears, like she’d been wronged.

As if Shen Xiuyan forgetting her was somehow his fault.

Shen Xiuyan took a deep breath, and suddenly everything clicked. Ah, so it was another one who was just after his good looks.

    Pfft. What good looks?

He was a grown man, but he still felt a little weird thinking about it.

Still, comparing himself to these girls, his skin really was smoother and fairer than theirs…

There really was a big gap between rural and urban living…

The alpha male within—his 6’1″ ego—was not pleased.

With a sigh, he looked at the girl in front of him who was still trying to put on her pure and innocent act.

She probably didn’t realize that this style was completely outdated now.

As someone from the modern era, he was about to show her what real “green tea” tactics looked like.

This was the trending persona now.

And don’t think he didn’t notice the glare Huaizi shot at Mingyue earlier.

    Yup. Totally petty and biased.

“Oh…?” Shen Xiuyan let out a long “oh,” and Huaizi’s face lit up. See? She knew it—there was no way he didn’t remember her.

But then Shen Xiuyan exhaled heavily and said, “Haha, sorry, still don’t recall. Maybe I’ve just been too busy. Unimportant things don’t really stick in my mind.”

He added with an apologetic smile, “Ah, wait, that didn’t come out right. My bad. You’re not mad, are you?”

Huaizi felt like there was something strange about how he said it, but she still pretended to be understanding. “Of course not. How could I be mad at Brother Shen?”

Shen Xiuyan smirked internally. Embarrassed yet?

No matter how pretty she was, to the original Shen Xiuyan, she was just a useless village girl.

To him, she was worth even less than Su Mingyue, the so-called “Heiniu,” in terms of usefulness.

It wasn’t that he looked down on just Huaizi—he looked down on everyone in this village equally.

And because of that condescension, no matter how the girls tried to curry favor with him, he always acted indifferent.

Which made things much easier for the current Shen Xiuyan to take control.

So he put on a conflicted expression and said, “Um, Comrade Huaizi, right? We don’t even know each other. How about not calling me Brother Shen? Someone might think I’ve got a sister who also came to the countryside.”

    Huaizi: “……”

    The group behind her: “……”

    Su Mingyue: “Legend.”

Even with Huaizi’s thick skin, she was too embarrassed to keep calling him that.

    “Okay… Comrade Shen,” she mumbled.

Her face turned bright red. To an outsider, it might’ve looked like she was flustered from a love confession.

Ugh, why hadn’t she realized before how sharp-tongued Comrade Shen was?

He was like a block of wood—totally unresponsive and utterly oblivious to her hints.

Giving up wasn’t an option. Huaizi gave herself a mental pep talk and tried again with her sweet, innocent act.

She didn’t believe anyone could resist this side of her.

“Comrade Shen, I didn’t expect to run into you today. What were you and Heiniu just talking about? If there’s anything you need help with, just say the word—I’m happy to help.”

The implication: You don’t need Heiniu. Ask me instead.

Shen Xiuyan gave an awkward smile. “I don’t think it’s something I can talk to you about.”

    Huaizi pouted.

Su Mingyue felt a burst of pride seeing her like that.

Huaizi caught a glimpse of Su Mingyue’s smug expression, and with how many times she’d just been rejected, her jealousy flared.

She blurted out, “Not convenient? Comrade Shen, don’t tell me you and Heiniu are… courting?”

Huaizi smirked to herself. Let’s see you laugh now.

No man would tolerate being paired with someone like Heiniu—especially not in public.

But Shen Xiuyan’s eyes went wide, and he quickly replied, “No way! You already know after just one day? You psychic or something?” As he spoke, he clapped in mock amazement. “Wow, didn’t expect that—you’ve got skills!”

    Huaizi: “……”

    The crowd behind her: “……”

    Su Mingyue: “!!!”

Brother Shen actually admitted their relationship right in front of Huaizi! Her heart instantly felt as sweet as honey.

    Huaizi was completely stunned.

What Shen Xiuyan had just said was nothing like what she expected.

She understood each word, but somehow couldn’t make sense of the sentence.

She looked at Shen Xiuyan, then at Su Mingyue. They were really dating???

Was Brother Shen blind or something?

What could he possibly see in Heiniu???

He had to be blackmailed… that must be it…

Huaizi refused to believe this was reality.
