    Chapter 280: The Old-School Tyrant CEO 24

“Stop staring. Did I say something wrong?”

After everything that happened yesterday, Mother Shen was truly afraid. If they missed out on a daughter-in-law like Mingyue, her foolish son would surely end up alone for the rest of his life.

With his emotional intelligence, what woman could possibly put up with him?

Well, that wasn’t entirely true. Women who were only after money might endure it for a while.

But those were all little vixens lusting after their family fortune. Could they really live a good life with Xiuyan?

She would be the first to object to Xiuyan finding a woman like that.

But Mingyue was different. She was a good girl from a family they knew inside and out. Even if Mingyue spent every cent they had, Mother Shen would be perfectly content.

Besides, while her foolish son lacked emotional intelligence, his IQ was high enough. Even if Mingyue spent money lavishly every day, she could never outpace his ability to earn it.

She was just that confident, and her double standards were crystal clear.

After finishing his morning routine, Shen Xiuyan picked up the lunch box Mother Shen had prepared and started putting on his shoes at the door.

As he was leaving, Mother Shen called out to him, “Don’t be in such a hurry to come back after you deliver that. If anything comes up at the company, let your father handle it. If Mingyue is free, take her out to have some fun. Remember, you must be willing to buy, buy, buy for your future wife.”

Shen Xiuyan patted his chest with a bit of pride. “Don’t worry, I have experience with this. Mingyue has my black card right now!”

Mother Shen covered her face and leaned her head against her hand.

Was that really something to be proud of?

Forget it, as long as he was happy.

At least he’d gained a bit of sense and knew to give her a black card to show his resolve.

    *

Father Su, who had just woken up, heard the doorbell. Through the security monitor, he clearly saw Shen Xiuyan’s handsome face.

Oh boy, he’s here awfully early.

Why was this boy coming earlier and earlier every day? Any earlier and he’d be waking up before the household staff…

“Xiuyan, why so early? Mingyue isn’t up yet!” Father Su said with a kind smile as he watched Shen Xiuyan bend over to change his shoes.

He noticed the young man was holding a bouquet of fiery red roses. “Oh, you even bought flowers.”

Shen Xiuyan pursed his lips and smiled, a hint of bashfulness in his expression. “These are for Mingyue.”

    “Oh, good, good, good.”

Father Su was very satisfied. There was definitely something going on between these two.

Shen Xiuyan walked over and casually placed the food container he was carrying on the table. “My mother asked me to bring breakfast for Mingyue. Since she’s not up yet, would you like to have some first?”

“Oh, why bother bringing breakfast? It’s not like we don’t have a maid to cook. Your mother must have worked hard, getting up so early.”

Shen Xiuyan waved it off. “It’s fine. She knows Mingyue loves her buns. The ones the maids make aren’t nearly as good as hers. As for getting up early, she seemed quite happy about it.”

How could she not be happy?

This was the major business of winning over a daughter-in-law.

The two men chatted for a while about recent financial trends. As they talked, Su Mingyue walked out, yawning.

She couldn’t help it; she had been so excited yesterday that she’d spent the whole night tossing and turning, unable to sleep soundly.

Seeing that it was already light out, she decided to just come downstairs.

She hadn’t expected to see Shen Xiuyan the moment she stepped down. She felt a mix of surprise and delight.

“Mingyue.” Shen Xiuyan waved. “Come have some breakfast. My mother made these buns specifically for you. It’s the filling you like.”

Su Mingyue trotted down the stairs, her voice overflowing with joy. “What are you doing here?”

    “Am I not welcome?”

    “You’re welcome~”

Father Su shook his head, choosing to leave the space to the two of them. He stood up. “You two eat. I’m still feeling a bit sleepy, so I’m going back for a nap.”

Once Father Su had left, Shen Xiuyan picked up the roses from the table and tucked them into her arms. “For you.”

“Wow.” Su Mingyue let out a small cry of surprise.

Her heart felt sweet. It seemed Xiuyan had taken her words from yesterday to heart.

Now this was the proper attitude for someone pursuing another. It allowed her to clearly feel that he liked her.

    “Do you like them?”

    “I do.”

“As long as you like them. I’ll bring them every day from now on.”

    “Every day?”

    “Mm-hmm!”

This answer was beyond Su Mingyue’s expectations. Of course, she didn’t take it too literally. After all, a grand President was very, very busy. How could he have so much time to spare for her?

If the person holding the nation’s economic lifeline wasn’t busy, the economy would likely suffer a shock.

But hearing him say it made her very happy.

Her requirements weren’t that high. It didn’t have to be every day; as long as he occasionally remembered to give her a surprise, that was enough.

Su Mingyue was just such a kind and considerate little fairy.

The two of them shared a breakfast where the atmosphere was thick with tension and attraction.

After the meal, Shen Xiuyan asked, “Did you like it?”

Su Mingyue nodded vigorously. “I did. The buns your mother makes are the best.”

Being able to eat breakfast with Shen Xiuyan was something she hadn’t even dared to dream of. Even if the food had only been mediocre, her current mood would have made it taste like a ten-star delicacy.

Shen Xiuyan chuckled softly. “Then, do you like me accompanying you for breakfast?”

Su Mingyue gave a reserved nod and whispered very quietly, “I do…”

Shen Xiuyan patted her head dotingly. “Then how about I accompany you for breakfast every day from now on?”

Su Mingyue pursed her lips, a bit hesitant. “But what about your work?”

Shen Xiuyan smiled. “There’s no conflict at all. I’ll go to the company after breakfast. The timing is perfect.”

    “Mm!” Su Mingyue nodded hard.

“Then for the rest of the day, is Eldest Miss Su free?” Shen Xiuyan reached out his hand. “It’s the weekend. Do you want to go out and play with me?”

With a flushed face, Su Mingyue placed her small hand into his large one. “I do!”

A pleasant day ended just like that.

The next morning, Shen Xiuyan arrived as promised, and he didn’t forget to bring a bouquet of flowers.

The third day, the fourth day… a week passed.

Su Mingyue also developed the good habit of sleeping early and waking early. She had no choice, considering Shen Xiuyan arrived so incredibly early.

The sole victim of this situation soon emerged: Father Su.

His daily routine was completely disrupted. Just as he was supposed to be waking up, Shen Xiuyan would arrive, and Mingyue would get up right after. The two of them would then eat breakfast together in a sticky, sweet display of affection. It was all so very harmonious.

If he were to insert himself, an old man, right into the middle of that perfect picture…

What would that even look like?

The scene was too beautiful; he didn’t dare look.

He at least had that much situational awareness.

Of course, it wasn’t that he hadn’t considered taking his food back to the bedroom, but if he accidentally let it slip during a conversation later, how awkward would that be for everyone?

It was better to just skip the meal entirely and stay in bed with his wife, sleeping until they could both get up and eat at the same time.

Mother Su sat up and stretched.

“Oh?” she asked, surprised. “You didn’t get up today either? Is Xiuyan here again?”

Father Su curled his lip. “What do you think? He’s more consistent about coming to our house than punching a clock1 at work. At least people take a day off from work once in a while, but him? Rain or shine, he’s here. Is it really worth it just to deliver a bouquet and have one meal?”

“You know perfectly well whether it’s worth it.” Mother Su reached out and poked his cheek. “Wipe that grin off your face before you start complaining. Your expression doesn’t look like you’re annoyed at all.”

“Heh, I’m making a sacrifice, just a small sacrifice. Our daughter’s happiness is what matters most. Seeing the two of them like this makes me happier than words can say.”

Mother Su nodded, her voice tinged with excitement. “I’ve always said Xiuyan is a boy we’ve watched grow up; he’s absolutely reliable. He’s a perfect match for Mingyue. Maybe our family will have some good news to celebrate very soon.”

“Hahaha, that would be for the best. Then the grandson or granddaughter I’ve been dreaming of can join our family sooner, too.”

    1. punching a clock: The original text (上班打卡, shàngbān dǎkǎ) refers to the strict attendance systems in Chinese companies. Father Su is joking that Shen Xiuyan is more disciplined in his courtship than most employees are at their jobs. ↩
