Chapter 237: The Phoenix Man Who Soared Before the Apocalypse (42)

Brother Lei looked up in disbelief. “Where are you going to find one? We’ve got quite a few people here. The ones you saw are just a portion. Everyone’s got families, they’re just hiding in the villas right now…”

Shen Xiuyan gave him a mysterious smile, one laced with confidence. “You don’t need to worry about that.”

Brother Lei’s confusion was practically solidifying into a giant question mark.

Why was Young Master Shen being so secretive?

But since he said it like that, it meant he had a plan. All they needed to do was trust him.

“Alright, then I’ll leave it to you, Young Master Shen. I’ll go back and tell them to start getting ready early.”

    “Mm, go ahead.”

Once they parted ways, Shen Xiuyan immediately returned home.

He wasn’t short on vehicles or fuel, but he needed to figure out how to bring out a vehicle without drawing attention.

As Su Mingyue passed by and saw his brows furrowed in thought, she curiously pounced over.

Hooking her arms around Shen Xiuyan’s neck, she grinned and asked, “What’s wrong? Why the long face?”

Shen Xiuyan was momentarily stunned, then flipped the script and pulled her into his arms.

“Nothing. I’m just thinking about how to bring out the vehicle without raising suspicion.”

“Bring it out?” Su Mingyue blinked her big eyes, clearly not understanding what he meant.

Shen Xiuyan couldn’t help but tap her on the nose. “Yeah, those supernatural ability users outside agreed to come with us, but the ones you saw aren’t all of them. They’ve got families hiding in the villas. So I’m thinking of pulling a bus out of the space to use for transport. It’ll be easier to manage everyone that way.”

Su Mingyue’s eyes instantly lit up with admiration. “They agreed to come with you? That’s great news! With them around, our journey will be much safer.”

“Yeah, sticking together benefits everyone.” Shen Xiuyan gently stroked her hair. “So your husband here needs to head out again soon to bring the bus out. But… I’ve never driven a bus before. Not sure if I can handle it.”

That was what Shen Xiuyan was most worried about—how to get the bus in motion.

“Hahaha, that’s easy,” Su Mingyue said smugly.

    Shen Xiuyan: “?”

Su Mingyue leaned in and whispered in his ear, “Your father-in-law can drive. Just ask him for help. If you don’t want him to find out about your Space Ability, then it’ll be a bit more troublesome. You’ll have to bring the bus out first, then bring him over.”

Shen Xiuyan looked at her in disbelief. “Impressive, my dear father-in-law.”

Then he paused, thinking it over. “Wait a minute, why should we trouble Dad? Now that you mention it, I remember—among those guys outside, there’s bound to be someone who can drive a bus. No, I better go ask around right away.”

Su Mingyue quickly grabbed his sleeve to stop him.

“No, just ask Dad. It’s safer that way…”

Until they were absolutely secure, the fewer people who knew about the Space Ability, the better.

She didn’t want Shen Xiuyan to be exposed to any danger.

Even the slightest chance of exposure—she wanted to nip it in the bud. After all, they’d just had a fight with Sun Lei’s group. No matter how docile they seemed now, she still didn’t trust them.

Seeing the worry written all over Su Mingyue’s bright little face, Shen Xiuyan couldn’t bring himself to reject her concern.

So he nodded. “Alright. If you don’t mind Dad going through the trouble, then of course I’ll ask him first.”

“It’s no trouble. What trouble? Come on, let’s go tell Dad.” Seeing that he’d changed his mind, Su Mingyue smiled so brightly her eyes curved. “If Dad knows he can help you, he’ll be thrilled.”

Just as Su Mingyue predicted, Father Su was overjoyed to hear he could be of help.

He didn’t know where his son-in-law planned to find a bus, but he changed clothes right away and was eager to head out with him.

Su Mingyue grabbed her father’s hand with a smile. “Wait a bit, don’t be in such a rush. Let Xiuyan find the bus first, then bring you over.”

Shen Xiuyan waved his hand. “It’s fine. Let’s just take Dad now, save me a trip later.”

“Huh?” Su Mingyue froze, her eyes full of disbelief.

Take Dad now? Then wouldn’t he find out about Xiuyan’s Space Ability?

How was she supposed to keep it a secret?

Shen Xiuyan patted her head. “We’re family. Sooner or later, they’ll find out.”

Shen Xiuyan trusted his father-in-law’s character.

Even if he found out about the Space Ability, it wouldn’t cause any harm.

They were all in the same boat, and he was responsible for protecting his daughter. Only a fool would expose him.

Su Mingyue’s smile grew even brighter at those words. “Alright, if you think it’s fine, then we’ll do it your way! But I’m going too.”

    “Sure.”

Shen Xiuyan figured they were just going to pick up a vehicle. The road wasn’t dangerous, so he agreed without hesitation.

“Dad, let’s head out now.” Shen Xiuyan gestured politely.

“Leaving again? First you say you’re going, then you’re not…”

    Father Su was thoroughly confused.

He had no idea what kind of riddles these two kids were playing…

Oh well, he’d just follow along. They wouldn’t lead him into trouble anyway.

Shen Xiuyan drove them to a safe, open area.

Father Su, already puzzled, was even more confused now. He turned to Su Mingyue and asked, “Weren’t we going to find a vehicle? Where is it? What are we doing here? There’s nothing but empty land.”

Su Mingyue gave him a playful wink and said mysteriously, “Exactly. There’s nothing here.”

    Father Su: “???”

Just as she finished speaking, Father Su saw Shen Xiuyan step out of the car.

He stood in the empty lot, and in the blink of an eye, a large bus appeared out of thin air right in front of them.

    Father Su: “…”

    “!!!”

Good heavens, did he just see a ghost in broad daylight?!

He stiffly turned his neck and asked in a robotic voice, “W-what just happened?”

Su Mingyue smiled sweetly. “Let Xiuyan explain it to you on the bus.”

    Soon, Shen Xiuyan returned.

He climbed aboard and handed over a set of keys. “I’ll be counting on you now, Father-in-law.”

Father Su took the keys with trembling hands, muttering under his breath, “No, seriously, you two need to explain what’s going on here.”

Shen Xiuyan rubbed his nose and gave an embarrassed smile. “It’s pretty clear. I have a Space Ability. I stored this bus in my space before the Apocalypse, so we don’t have to waste time searching for one. We can just use it.”

    Father Su: “…”

Seeing that he was still speechless, Shen Xiuyan casually added, “Didn’t I say I got wind of the Apocalypse ahead of time? So I stocked up on supplies and stored them in the space.”

At that, Father Su snapped out of his shock. He reached out and gave Shen Xiuyan a firm smack on the back of the head.

“You brat! Why didn’t you say so earlier? If you had this Space Ability, you should’ve asked me for more money before! You could’ve stocked up even more supplies, and we wouldn’t have to worry now. But no, now that money’s just a pile of worthless paper.”
