Chapter 243: The Phoenix Man Who Soared Before the Apocalypse (48)

Shen Xiuyan said, “Yes, I’m talking about Core Crystals. Zombies have a Core Crystal in their brains. They’ll be the hard currency of the future, the universal currency after the Apocalypse. And high-grade Core Crystals can even enhance Supernatural Abilities.”

    “Hiss~”

    “Hiss~”

    “Hiss~”

A chorus of sharp intakes of breath echoed around them.

“They can be used like that??? Why didn’t you tell us earlier? Do you know how many Core Crystals we’ve wasted on the way here?”

Shen Xiuyan smiled faintly. “Well, I didn’t fully trust you yet.”

Brother Lei scratched his head and asked dumbly, “Huh? What about now?”

Shen Xiuyan gave him a look like he was watching an idiot. “What do you think?”

Brother Lei grinned from ear to ear. What was he even worrying about? Of course Shen Xiuyan trusted them now. He’d clearly accepted them as his own people!

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have brought his wife along and shared such a crucial secret with them.

Brother Lei rubbed his hands together excitedly. “Should we go help out Sister-in-law?”

Shen Xiuyan waved his hand. “Go ahead. From now on, whoever kills a zombie gets the Core Crystal. If it’s a team kill, then take turns. Anyway, these are just the lowest-grade crystals. They won’t do much to boost your abilities.”

The buzz-cut Wang Qiang raised his hand high. “Not much of a boost, but it still helps, right?”

Shen Xiuyan nodded. “Yes. Try it yourselves and you’ll see. But if you ask me, it’s a waste of Core Crystals.”

Everyone’s eyes lit up at that. No need to think twice—going forward, they’d be even more motivated to kill zombies.

Even a small boost was still a boost.

As long as they had enough Core Crystals, they’d improve eventually.

And that improvement was their lifeline in this world.

Energized by the news, the group quickly scattered and swept up all the Core Crystals from the fallen zombies.

When Brother Lei passed by Su Mingyue, he couldn’t help but shudder.

Even though he knew Sister-in-law wasn’t some psycho killer, the way she swung that blade—clean, precise, not even blinking—was terrifying…

He looked at the jagged mess he’d made just to dig out one Core Crystal, then looked over at her side.

She was taking out zombies with one clean strike each.

Seriously? It was bad enough that their Supernatural Abilities couldn’t compare to Young Master Shen’s, but now they couldn’t even keep up with a woman?

    This Apocalypse was brutal…

Good thing they’d met Young Master Shen. Otherwise, they’d probably be dead by now.

    “Twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three. All right, twenty-three in total.”

Brother Lei finished counting the Core Crystals his group had collected and handed them to Shen Xiuyan.

“Young Master Shen, these are all the ones we dug up. They’re yours.”

Shen Xiuyan was momentarily surprised, then waved his hand. “Just split them up like I said earlier.”

“But most of these were killed by you…” Brother Lei looked genuinely embarrassed.

Shen Xiuyan, the undisputed Core Crystal tycoon, didn’t even blink. “Forget it this time. You all keep them and try them out. Otherwise, none of you will know how to use them.”

“Thank you, Young Master Shen.” Brother Lei looked at him with emotion. “Should we head into the supermarket now to clear it out?”

Shen Xiuyan nodded. “Yeah. Stay sharp. There are just as many zombies inside as outside.”

    “Yes, sir.”

The group cracked their knuckles and headed in. Shen Xiuyan quickly turned to Su Mingyue and said, “Why don’t you go back to the car for now?”

But this time, Su Mingyue didn’t cooperate. She shook her head. “Why can’t I go in with you?”

Although Shen Xiuyan was fully capable of protecting her, he still felt uneasy.

In the end, he firmly refused. “No. Be good and wait in the car.”

Su Mingyue looked reluctant. She glanced at the car, then at the supermarket entrance, and her eyes lit up.

“I can drive the car inside, right? How about that?”

Seeing how eager she was, Shen Xiuyan didn’t refuse this time.

“All right. But we’re setting some ground rules. Lock the doors and don’t get out of the car.”

Su Mingyue waved him off impatiently. “Got it, Daddy Shen. You nag like an old man.”

“You…” Shen Xiuyan was helpless against her.

Inside the supermarket, the ability users had already teamed up and started clearing out the zombies.

When Su Mingyue drove the car in, Wang Qiang couldn’t help blurting out, “Holy crap, she drove the car inside? Sister-in-law is badass.”

Brother Lei smacked the back of his head. “You’ve got time to gossip? Not afraid a zombie’s gonna bite your face off? Focus and kill zombies!”

“Ow ow ow! I get it, I get it! Stop hitting me, Brother Lei!”

Scolded into shape, Wang Qiang immediately snapped to attention and stopped goofing off.

Thanks to everyone’s teamwork, the zombies inside the supermarket were soon cleared out.

    “We’re clear over here.”

“Nothing left on our side either.”

    “All clear!”

Hearing the reports, everyone finally let out a collective sigh of relief.

Shen Xiuyan waved his hand. “Those who are gathering supplies, get to it. Those digging for Core Crystals, start digging. Move!”

    “Yes!”

The group scattered again, each person busily doing their part.

Su Mingyue chose that moment to open the car door and step out.

Shen Xiuyan frowned. “Didn’t I tell you not to get out?”

Su Mingyue winked playfully. “You said, ‘Those digging for Core Crystals, start digging.’ That’s my job, remember?”

    Shen Xiuyan: “…”

    Fine. You win, wife.

How did this suddenly become your job?

She wasn’t the least bit delicate or pretentious. Where had that pampered, charming heiress from before the Apocalypse gone? How was she adapting so well?

No wonder he’d fallen for her at first sight!

Suddenly, a commotion broke out in the distance.

“Holy sh*t, there are still zombies over here!”

“Dear god, why are these zombies so fast?”

“There’s more than one! Another one’s coming!”

“They even know how to hide now? Damn, these zombie bros are seriously leveling up!”

Shen Xiuyan immediately rushed over. Sure enough, he saw two zombies moving at lightning speed, charging toward several of his people.

Damn. These two were fast and agile—clearly evolved.

If the previous ones were Level 1 zombies, these had to be Level 2.

There was no way the others could handle them.

Shen Xiuyan stepped in without hesitation.

He also shouted, “Fall back! I’ll handle them. These zombies have leveled up. You can’t take them.”

The others didn’t dare hold him back. They quickly retreated.

Shen Xiuyan engaged the two zombies in close combat. Even though they were Level 2, they were still no match for him.

But Su Mingyue didn’t know that. Watching from the sidelines, her heart was in her throat.

The more she watched, the more anxious she became. These zombies weren’t like the ones before. She was terrified Shen Xiuyan might get hurt.

When he finally blasted one of them to the ground, she let out a breath of relief.

    Then her pupils suddenly contracted.

The other zombie was about to grab the hem of Shen Xiuyan’s shirt.

    “Xiuyan, watch out!” she shouted.

At the sound of her voice, the zombie’s right hand actually froze in place.
