Chapter 202: The Phoenix Man Who Soared Before the Apocalypse (7)

“Seriously, Xiaofeng, you know the guy from the military compound, right? His info is solid.”

Shen Xiuyan dropped a name Father Su couldn’t ignore.

“Oh, him? If it came from him, then it might really be true. But I haven’t seen anything about this on the news lately.”

“Seems like it’s not convenient to make it public yet. Just trust me on this. Tomorrow, have someone stock up on supplies and store them in the villa. Try not to go out these next couple of days.”

“Is it really that serious? I haven’t seen anyone around getting sick.”

“It is. It’s going to break out in the next couple of days.” Shen Xiuyan raised his voice. “Since you two won’t come back, at least stay put in the villa for a couple of days. That’s not too much to ask, right?”

“Alright, alright, I’ll trust you this once. I’ll have someone buy supplies tomorrow, and we’ll stay home for the next two days. That good enough for you?”

“You have to follow through,” Shen Xiuyan said firmly.

“I got it. But even if I stay home, it can only be for two days. If there’s no news by then, I’ll have to get back to work. The sooner I finish, the sooner I can come home.”

    “Alright.”

With the important stuff said, Shen Xiuyan handed the phone back to Su Mingyue.

Su Mingyue resumed chatting sweetly with her father. To make sure Father Su believed Shen Xiuyan, she repeated everything again with extra emphasis.

“Everything Xiuyan said is true. Maybe you haven’t heard anything because you’re not in B City right now, but I’ve been hearing all about it.”

She made up the story as she went. After all, they were far away and wouldn’t be able to verify it anyway.

“Aiyo, don’t worry. Daddy will have someone buy the supplies tomorrow. We’ll stay home and won’t go out.”

“Great! Then goodbye, Daddy. You and Mom take care of yourselves.”

“Got it. It’s late, you two should get some rest too.”

After hanging up, Father Su thought for a moment, then transferred another ten million to his daughter.

As he did, he muttered, “Who knows if she has enough pocket money. After buying that house, she might be short on cash. Better to send a bit more.”

Mother Su leaned over to take a look and—well, there it was. Their daughter made one phone call, and Old Su transferred ninety million just like that.

    What a generous hand.

She suddenly didn’t feel like working hard anymore. Wouldn’t it be better to just follow her daughter’s lead?

For a moment, she looked at Old Su with a touch of grievance.

Father Su picked up on the signal and shivered.

Seeing the jealousy in his wife’s eyes, he said in disbelief, “That money was for your daughter! Don’t look at me like I’m some scumbag!”

“Besides, what’s mine isn’t yours too?”

Mother Su let out a long sigh. “I know. I’m just envious of our daughter. She’s living the good life. Unlike me, poor thing, still has to go on business trips with you.”

Father Su twitched his lips and chose to stay silent.

He’d figured it out. The more you say, the more mistakes you make. At this point, silence was the best policy.

Sure enough, when he said nothing, Mother Su seemed to come around on her own. She sighed and said, “Forget it. We only have one daughter. If we don’t work hard, she’ll have to suffer. Better we take the hit.”

    “Now that’s the right attitude.”

Back on the other end, Su Mingyue hung up and proudly waved her phone at Shen Xiuyan.

“Look! The transfer from Dad already came through.”

She shoved the phone in front of Shen Xiuyan’s face. Goodness, it was even a full ten million more than they expected.

No wonder he was her fabulously wealthy father-in-law.

“Mhm, you’re amazing. Just a few words and you got that much money.”

“Of course.” Su Mingyue puffed up a little, but then her mood dipped. “But if my parents won’t come back, what’ll happen when the apocalypse hits?”

Shen Xiuyan patted his chest. “What are you afraid of? You’ve got your husband right here. As long as they stock up on supplies and stay put in the villa, they’ll be fine.”

“Once the apocalypse starts, we’ll assess the situation and head over. After all, we’ll need to pick a place that’s actually livable.”

Su Mingyue nodded. “You’re right. B City and S City are way too densely populated. Definitely not ideal for surviving the apocalypse.”

“It’s already late. Since we’ve got money and supplies now, no need to stress. Let’s get some sleep. We’ve got work to do in the morning.”

“Okay.” Su Mingyue blinked at him, staring without moving.

Shen Xiuyan stared back, equally still.

Something wasn’t right. Su Mingyue tilted her head, puzzled.

Shen Xiuyan looked confused. “What’s wrong?”

Su Mingyue hesitated. “Why are you still here?”

Shen Xiuyan smacked his forehead. He almost forgot—after they got married, the original guy always slept in a separate room from his wife.

But he wasn’t the original guy.

    Separate beds?

    What for?

This was his destined wife. They were legally married. Of course they should sleep together. And he was proud of it!

Shen Xiuyan rolled onto the bed with her in his arms. “Why would I leave? I’m not going anywhere. This is my wife. Why wouldn’t I sleep with her?”

His blunt and bold words made Su Mingyue’s face turn bright red, the color spreading all the way to her ears.

She struggled to get the words out, “You… you can sleep…”

“Exactly. I’ll tidy up the bed. You go take a shower.”

    “Okay…”

Su Mingyue dashed into the bathroom to run the water, then stood in front of the mirror and splashed cold water on her flushed cheeks.

Seeing the redness finally start to fade, she let out a breath of relief.

Come on, that’s your husband out there.

What are you getting shy for?

    Su Mingyue, pull yourself together.

Freshly showered and smelling sweet, Su Mingyue stepped out of the bathroom in a cloud of steam.

Trying to act calm, she said, “I’m done. Your turn.”

“Alright.” Shen Xiuyan grabbed his change of clothes and went in.

As soon as he was inside, Su Mingyue quickly pulled back the covers and lay down, trying to calm her racing heart.

Whew, thank goodness Xiuyan went in. If he hadn’t, she wouldn’t have been able to keep up the act. It felt like her heart was about to explode.

She kept telling her heart to calm down. Stay calm.

    Unfortunately, it didn’t help much.

A few moments later, Shen Xiuyan came out, now carrying the faint scent of orchid.

He sniffed himself and said, “Your body wash smells pretty good.”

“I’ve got a few unopened bottles. You can store them in your space.”

“Sure, give them to me tomorrow.” As he spoke, Shen Xiuyan lifted the covers and sat down on the bed.

The mattress dipped under his weight, and Su Mingyue’s heart pounded even harder.

She could clearly hear his breathing beside her, and feel the warmth whenever their skin accidentally touched.

Su Mingyue took a deep breath.

    Then closed her eyes.

    Bracing herself for something steamy.

But then—click—the bedside lamp turned off, and Shen Xiuyan lay flat on his back, completely still.

    Su Mingyue’s eyes flew open.

    That’s it?

    That’s all???

She practically had her pants off, and all he did was look at her???
