Chapter 235: The Phoenix Man Who Soared Before the Apocalypse (40)

But Shen Xiuyan’s next words cut off his accusations.

“Relax. If you had gotten hurt, I would’ve remembered to use my supernatural ability to heal you. But haven’t you made it this far without a scratch?”

Young Master Huo’s anger instantly melted into delight, his face blooming like a flower.

Sure enough, he still held a place in Young Master Shen’s heart. Just like that, Shen Xiuyan’s words completely soothed him.

“Alright, I’ll believe you this once. You weren’t just brushing me off.”

Feeling pleased, Young Master Huo rolled up his sleeves and started unloading supplies from the car.

As he moved things, he couldn’t help but exclaim, “Whoa, look at all these fresh fruits and vegetables! Where did you even find them?”

Shen Xiuyan gave a mysterious smile. “Just got lucky, I guess.”

“You must have heaven-defying luck.” Young Master Huo clicked his tongue in amazement.

Not only did Shen Xiuyan have four supernatural abilities, but even a casual supply run turned up rare fresh fruits and vegetables.

They hadn’t seen produce this fresh the entire journey.

Yet he went out alone and came back with all this?

Some people really do make others feel inferior by comparison.

They were clearly the ones holding him back.

After Young Master Huo went inside, the young couple exchanged a glance.

Su Mingyue had a teasing look on her face, clearly ready to enjoy the show.

“After all that drama, if he finds out you’ve been hiding your Space Ability from him, who knows what kind of scene he’ll cause next time?”

Shen Xiuyan crossed his arms and said righteously, “Who is he to me? Why should I tell him everything?”

Su Mingyue shrugged. “Hahaha, well, you’re the one who’ll have to deal with the headache, not me.”

Shen Xiuyan let out a silent sigh.

Bringing Young Master Huo along was no different from bringing a Hakimi—loyal and cheerful…

But the moment you kept even the tiniest secret from him, he acted like you’d committed some unforgivable crime.

Good thing he hadn’t kept any pets before the Apocalypse. Turns out pets were this clingy.

Voiceover: (Young Master Huo: Thanks a lot. I treat you like a brother, and you treat me like a pet!)

At some point, night had crept across the sky. With the power out, everything was cloaked in darkness. Looking into the distance, one could barely make out anything beyond the scattered starlight.

Inside the room, the only source of light came from a small generator Shen Xiuyan had brought, casting a dim but cozy glow.

That warm light brought a sense of hope to everyone who hadn’t seen brightness at night in days.

The table was already set with steaming hot dishes, each one giving off an irresistible aroma.

Aunt Niu brought over the final dish—sweet and sour pork ribs—and said cheerfully, “Everything’s ready. Come on, let’s eat.”

“Oh wow, it smells amazing. Looks like your cooking skills were held back all this time by the lack of ingredients,” Mother Huo said, taking a deep breath and praising her.

“Seriously, this is on par with a five-star hotel chef,” Mother Su chimed in.

Aunt Niu waved her hands modestly. “Oh no, no, my cooking can’t compare to a real chef. It’s just that we haven’t had a proper hot meal in so long. When food smells this good all of a sudden, even the faintest aroma feels like a feast.”

Father Su couldn’t help but swallow. “Haha, don’t be so modest. Come on, let’s eat.”

As soon as he said that, everyone eagerly picked up their chopsticks.

They’d been waiting for those words. Finally, it was time to eat!

Everyone quickly grabbed their favorite dishes.

Bite after bite, their faces lit up with pure happiness.

Mmm, it was just too delicious.

They had never eaten anything this tasty in their lives.

Thinking back to the past few days of choking down dry, tasteless food, this felt like living in paradise.

    Shen Xiuyan, their savior!

Five minutes passed, and not a single person at the table said a word. They were all too focused on eating, heads down and fully immersed.

For a while, the only sound in the dining room was the clinking of chopsticks.

What was usually a slow, leisurely dinner was devoured in under fifteen minutes.

Fifteen minutes later, the table was left with nothing but shiny, empty plates. Even the last drops of sauce were wiped clean with big steamed buns.

Burp~ Young Master Huo let out a satisfied belch and collapsed into his chair.

Patting his stomach, he said, “So full. Seriously, so full. I never thought I’d live to see the day when vegetables tasted this good.”

Su Mingyue nodded in wholehearted agreement. “Same here. I used to hate eggplant, but I ate so much of it today. I guess scarcity really does make things precious.”

Aunt Niu quickly added, “There’s still fruit! We’ve got watermelon—your favorite. I’ll go slice some for you.”

“No rush, no rush. You should rest too,” Su Mingyue said, quickly stopping her. “There’s not even a sliver of space left in my stomach.”

Father Huo chuckled and sighed with admiration. “We really have to thank Xiuyan. Without him, where would we get food like this? I haven’t tasted meat in over ten days. Sigh, Old Su, I’m so jealous you have a son-in-law like him. If only I had a daughter.”

Young Master Huo’s eyes widened. “Dad! What are you saying? I’m not switching teams!”

Father Huo rolled his eyes. “I said if. If! Do you even know what ‘if’ means? I wasn’t telling you to switch genders!”

Young Master Huo patted his chest. “Whew, you scared me for a second there.”

His dad couldn’t possibly sacrifice his son just for a good meal, right?

He was a proud, straight man. Even if he changed genders, there was no way he’d have chemistry with Young Master Shen.

Shen Xiuyan gave him a side-eye. This guy’s train of thought was just too out there—he couldn’t keep up at all.

And what was with that constipated expression?

As if even if he did change genders, Shen Xiuyan would be into him.

Just imagining Young Master Huo in women’s clothes made Shen Xiuyan shudder.

Seeking comfort, he reached out and grabbed Su Mingyue’s hand.

    Mmm, so soft.

No stinky man could compare to his sweet, soft wife!

Su Mingyue noticed and gently squeezed his hand back, even curling her fingers around his palm in a silent show of support.

But the excited grin on her face said otherwise. She looked like she was eagerly waiting for Young Master Huo to switch teams, just to watch Shen Xiuyan squirm.

Shen Xiuyan’s eyes widened. So this is what kind of wife you are?

    Absolutely outrageous.

Tonight, he was definitely going to give her a good “lesson” in love!

    Heh heh…
