    Chapter 19

Wu Jingyu shrugged helplessly. He had only been looking, but he knew very well that his mother could never treat him like Xie Shian’s parents treated him.

Xie Shian was a precious gem in his family, while he, at home, was a nuisance.

If it weren’t illegal to throw away children, he didn’t know how many times he’d end up in the trash bin.

On one side was a harmonious and happy family, while on the other, two people who couldn’t stand being around each other for more than a couple of days without growing tired of each other and constantly bickering.

When they got home, Fan Chunxiang saw An’an was about to help her with the vegetables again, so she reached out to rub his head and told Li Datao to take him out to play for a while.

They always say that children from poor families mature early, and now that their family’s situation had improved, An’an didn’t need to be so obedient anymore. Being a bit mischievous like his classmates would be fine too.

An’an sat on the soft, thick carpet, dazedly holding a block in his hand. His index finger kept poking at it gently, as he linked his thoughts to the system in his mind.

    “Mom doesn’t let me help…”

An’an said this in a voice full of grievance, sniffing as if he had just been kicked like a little puppy.

At this moment, 250 didn’t know what to say. At first, it pitied the situation of that couple, but now it also felt sorry for the child it had seen growing up.

“Host, many things are about balance. You don’t need to feel guilty about doing these things. The person from your past life was not you, they entrusted you to make up for their regrets.”

“You don’t need to take all the responsibilities for things they did.”

“You can also see that your parents, more than wanting your help, would prefer to see you playing for a while.”

At first, 250 had wanted to tell An’an to interact with his parents like a child in a normal family, but it suddenly realized that the host had probably never seen how normal parents and children interacted.

If it had said that, it would have been like rubbing salt into an open wound, and it would have been particularly cruel.

    “Mm?”

An’an, who was very smart when it came to studies, was a little slow when it came to this matter. His small head couldn’t understand what 250 was trying to convey.

“That means, relax a bit, don’t be too tense.”

250 didn’t understand children’s thought processes. When An’an first started carrying out tasks, he was obedient, following it just as expected. Probably because at that time, he was innocent and immersed in the joy of having parents.

Back then, when 250 showed him the events of his past life, An’an denied and refuted more than anything, thinking that he couldn’t have been that bad.

As he grew older and became more aware of the past, he realized how extreme those actions were. His guilt and shame, along with his increasing eagerness to help, made him even more obedient than before.

250 spent some points to buy itself a cigar, lighting it and letting out a sigh.

So, it was still all that person’s fault from the past life. As a child raised by Fan Chunxiang and Li Datao, he knew all too well how to make them feel pain. Every word he said felt like a sharp knife, digging into their most vulnerable spots.

An’an never mentioned that Li Datao couldn’t hear or that Fan Chunxiang couldn’t speak, but in his past life, that child blamed all his misfortune on having such parents.

Fan Chunxiang and Li Datao raising him seemed like a mistake they made.

An’an carefully stacked a block, just as he heard Fan Chunxiang call him to eat. He patted his butt and quickly ran outside. Before leaving, the system reminded him again.

“Think about it from another angle. Your parents don’t want to see you like this.”

    “Mm.”

From being confused and ignorant to having a clearer understanding of those things, this process was filled with pain. 250 didn’t know how to comfort him, so it could only leave it to time.

Fan Chunxiang really liked Wu Jingyu. Before sending An’an to school on Monday, she told him that they could often play together at school. She saw that Wu Jingyu was a good child.

If she could get An’an to be a bit more lively and outgoing, that would be even better. As for grades, she considered them secondary.

    “I’ll remember, Mom.”

Fan Chunxiang bent down to tidy up the collar of his school uniform and watched him enter the school gate.

Since seeing Xie Shian at the amusement park, Wu Jingyu had played joyfully all weekend. If it weren’t for his mother’s urging, he wouldn’t have even wanted to do the homework the teacher assigned.

However, when Monday came, he was very eager to go to school. Once at school, he kept looking forward to seeing Xie Shian.

Wu Jingyu thought he had figured it out clearly. Xie Shian liked him and wanted to be good friends with him. Before, Xie Shian was too shy and embarrassed to say it out loud!

Without Xie Shian saying anything, Wu Jingyu already arranged everything for him. The status of “good friend” in the eyes of other classmates was now a certainty.

Xie Shian found him too noisy. Every time he saw him doing homework, he would shout and run back to do his own work, afraid of falling behind.

Because his mom said he should play more with Wu Jingyu, he forced himself to tolerate it.

250 felt amused seeing how they interacted. It was like an energetic, mischievous husky bringing a lot of liveliness to its home.

About half a month passed. Recently, An’an noticed that his mother seemed a bit upset, hiding something. Every time he asked about it, Fan Chunxiang would smile and deny it.

An’an was very sensitive to this. The more he didn’t know what was going on, the more anxious he became. When he asked the system, it didn’t respond.

One day after school, Fan Chunxiang came to pick him up. On the way home, she bought him a balloon. As they walked into the hallway, they heard loud noises from upstairs.

Their neighbors usually weren’t this noisy, so An’an was puzzled.

After a few floors, they saw that a group of people was blocking the door. Fan Chunxiang instinctively wanted to lead An’an away, but before she could turn around, someone had already gone downstairs.

“Why are you leaving, Fan Chunxiang? We’re relatives after all. We came to talk, and you’re being so impolite.”

Fan Chunxiang’s face darkened. She grabbed An’an’s hand and opened the door.

As soon as the door unlocked, the people shoved Fan Chunxiang aside and hurriedly entered.

They didn’t even bother to change their shoes and stomped on the polished floor. As soon as they entered, they began looking around. They praised the place, but their greedy eyes were obvious.

Fan Chunxiang made a simple dinner. Li Datao had already told her he wouldn’t be home for dinner that night.

After dinner, she coaxed An’an to bed. An’an lay obediently on his bed in his pajamas. After he fell asleep, Fan Chunxiang quietly walked out and closed his door.

Several relatives were sitting on the sofa outside. Strangely, there was a garbage bin nearby, but they still scattered sunflower seed shells everywhere.

“Fan Chunxiang, I have to say, you two are living comfortably now. This house must have cost a lot of money, huh?”

“Yeah, I always thought Li Datao was capable. Look at how things are now. Not like me, I got fired from the factory recently. Life’s been tough.”

“Stop talking. Our family’s the same. I don’t even know how we’re going to get by.”

“Li Datao, when he was young, I even carried him. We’re all from the Li family! A family doesn’t talk separately. Fan Chunxiang, there are some things you may not know, but we’re very clear about them.”

“Why hasn’t Li Datao come back yet? We’re relatives. It’s not right for him not to come back.”

Fan Chunxiang couldn’t speak. She couldn’t refute their sarcastic accusations. She glanced at An’an’s room and was relieved that she had already gotten him to sleep.

Around nine o’clock, the door finally opened. Li Datao returned after drinking a little. His steps were unsteady. As soon as he entered, he was eager to go and hug An’an, but the little guy would probably complain that he smelled bad.

Unexpectedly, when the door opened, he saw that there were many people in the house. Most of them seemed somewhat familiar, but not close enough to be considered friends.

Fan Chunxiang gestured with her hand, indicating that they had come to talk, just like her relatives.

When they had lived in that run-down courtyard, it was a struggle just to have enough food. These relatives didn’t even know them and had no contact with them.

Once Li Datao’s business started doing well, these relatives, like dogs smelling meat, flocked over.

“I’m not saying, but you two don’t know how to handle things. The kid you picked up, even though you raised him, wasn’t really yours, was he?”

“Why not adopt my nephew? At least he’d have your blood in him.”

“Yeah, that kid doesn’t even share your surname, but you treat him like a treasure.”

“What if he grows up and is ungrateful?”

“What if the kid’s real parents come back and ask you to return him?”

Before, Li Datao just had a gloomy face, but when he heard these words from one of his relatives, he suddenly stood up and threw a cup at the relative who said it.

Now that his business was doing well, he used to collect scrap, and his strength was impressive. He easily carried them out one by one like handling little chicks.

He then locked the door, sat on the sofa, and took a deep breath to calm his anger. Just then, An’an’s bedroom door opened, and a fluffy head poked out.
