Good Baby C17
by MarineTLChapter 17
Fan Chunxiang and Li Datao were both amused by An’an’s arrangement. The three of them went to a newly opened supermarket in their district, planning to buy some vegetables to celebrate An’an’s graduation from kindergarten.
The supermarket was large, with many expensive ingredients. It was a rare indulgence for them today.
After buying the groceries, they went home. An’an moved a small stool to the balcony to pick the vegetables, while Li Datao handled the meat. The three of them were busy in the kitchen together.
After purchasing a house and covering the renovation costs, Li Datao had spent nearly all the money he had earned over the years.
However, he wasn’t in a rush. He planned to officially register a company after some time and, once everything was on track, hire someone to help. This would lighten his load.
The house they bought was chosen because it was close to both the kindergarten and the primary school, making it convenient for An’an to go to school.
The balcony where An’an was now sitting was high enough that he could see the school with just a tiptoe. At this moment, the primary school hadn’t yet started the vacation, and many children were playing on the playground.
Fan Chunxiang, having put on her apron, stepped outside and saw An’an staring at the school. She walked over and crouched down beside him, reaching out to ruffle his hair.
She gestured to him, saying that in a few months, he would also be attending that school.
“Mom, I will study hard and become the greatest scientist in the world!”
Fan Chunxiang nodded and smiled, gesturing her belief in An’an. She was confident that An’an would grow up to be as outstanding as he claimed.
After moving to their new place, they encountered different neighbors. Unlike the ones in the small alley who mostly boasted that not studying could still lead to success, their new neighbors valued children’s education highly.
During dinner, Fan Chunxiang was still discussing with her husband about signing An’an up for an interest class this summer.
Whenever it came to investing in An’an, Li Datao never refused.
He was not like most fathers who would compare An’an to other children, demanding An’an to be as excellent simply because others were.
His thinking was quite similar, but his approach was that if other children had something, An’an should also have it.
After asking An’an for his thoughts, they enrolled him in a two-month painting class for the summer. After graduating from kindergarten, An’an continued with his classes.
Now, there was no need for Fan Chunxiang to lighten Li Datao’s burden like before. She could now focus all her energy on taking care of her family.
Li Datao and the child’s daily needs were all carefully arranged by her, with everything taken care of meticulously.
Whenever An’an came back from his interest class and left his drawings scattered around, she would always tidy them up, frame them, and hang them on the wall in another room.
250 would feel a strange sense of sorrow whenever she saw Fan Chunxiang organizing these things.
Her life had been tough. In the original world, she never had a single good day.
However, thanks to her attention to detail and tenderness, she had documented the little child’s growth from the previous life, awakening a small bit of conscience in the cold-hearted person, allowing the host to come to this world and make up for their regrets.
“Host, you must treat your parents well, do you understand?”
An’an, happily playing during break time, suddenly heard the system’s voice in his mind, leaving him somewhat confused.
Of course, he would treat his parents well. Compared to the vague memories of his biological parents in his world, Fan Chunxiang and Li Datao were the parents he had truly accepted.
An’an would do what he thought was right without the system’s reminder, but after the reminder, he would surely do even better.
Since the first grade, An’an had often been praised by his teachers for his intelligence, and the system was not surprised at all. In fact, it felt that the teachers were still too cautious in their praise.
An’an’s fate could suppress an ancestral home for tens of thousands of years, blessing a vast family to prosper for generations.
In ancient times, that would have made him someone who could rule a kingdom. In modern times, regardless of the path Xie Shi’an chose, he would excel in it.
If the conditions allowed, the system even wished the teachers could directly send him to middle school.
Ordinary people with mediocre talent can catch up to the lazy but naturally gifted, proving the importance of diligence.
An’an, on the other hand, was a genius who was willing to work hard. Since entering school, he had consistently ranked first in his grade.
While others could tie with him at the top, he had never fallen from this position.
Even his teacher couldn’t help but consult Fan Chunxiang, asking how she managed to raise such an outstanding child.
In fact, Fan Chunxiang didn’t even know herself. To her, An’an was still the little kid who loved to slack off and read all sorts of strange books.
In daily life, An’an would often cling to her, asking her to make delicious food, only to turn around and climb into his father’s arms, acting coquettish, asking when they could go out to play together.
Li Datao worked hard for the sake of easing An’an’s future pressure.
He saved up things for An’an, ensuring that even if An’an wasn’t as outstanding in the future, he could still live a life without worrying about food or clothing.
Li Datao had prepared everything he needed and no longer expected his child’s success to change the family’s situation.
Li Datao deeply doted on the child they had adopted, caring for him to the core. He didn’t want his son to become a dragon, but simply didn’t want him to feel burdened.
On weekends, when An’an spent a long time studying at home, Fan Chunxiang, feeling sorry for him, would think about buying some brain-boosting foods while grocery shopping. Li Datao, feeling sorry, would want to take the family out to have some fun together.
Before the last class on Friday, many students had already begun packing up their things.
Sitting in the middle, Xie Shi’an was holding a pencil, writing in his workbook. After hearing his teacher say that his handwriting was crooked and ugly, he had started practicing diligently, writing whenever he had free time.
He wasn’t an ordinary child. He had very high standards for himself, almost to the point of nitpicking.
With his chubby hands holding the pencil, his posture was very upright, looking quite cute with his baby fat still intact.
His desk mate, Wu Jingyu, who was about to call over friends to play, noticed that Xie Shi’an was still writing and immediately felt the pressure rising.
Their grades were similar, and they had tied for first place in the previous exam. The teacher had specially arranged for them to sit together, hoping to foster healthy competition.
Wu Jingyu, who had similar talent, was active and lively, but lacked discipline.
He often performed well enough to tie for first place but could easily slip out of the top fifty if he didn’t focus. The teacher was often troubled by this.
They were often compared, and Wu Jingyu had heard countless praises of Xie Shi’an from teachers and parents, making his competitive and stubborn nature flare up.
He pulled out a workbook that hadn’t been used, grabbed a pencil, and began writing, sneaking glances at Xie Shi’an.
At first, Wu Jingyu just wanted to compete, questioning why everyone thought Xie Shi’an was better than him.
He was just lazy and loved to play, but now, he had worked just as hard as Xie Shi’an and was sure he wouldn’t fall far behind.
After a while, he thought that after working hard for so long, quitting halfway would be a waste.
Another week passed, and Wu Jingyu couldn’t take it anymore. If it weren’t for his pride, he might have asked Xie Shi’an just how far he planned to push himself.
On the way home from school on Friday, Wu Jingyu jogged alongside Xie Shi’an and quietly asked:
“What are you doing this weekend?”
“Homework, pre-study, and practicing writing.”
Xie Shi’an explained his plans, and Wu Jingyu immediately made a face.
“Weekend? You’re not going out to play?”
It was the weekend! Who stays home to study all weekend? With Xie Shi’an’s attitude toward learning, anyone would think they were already in the third or final year of high school!
“I’m not going.”
Xie Shi’an still remembered his teacher mentioning that his handwriting wasn’t great, and it made him feel frustrated.
He wouldn’t go out to play until his handwriting was better.
Every Friday, Li Datao would return home early in the afternoon, go grocery shopping with his wife, and make a lavish dinner that evening.
This time, he brought back a gift from a friend, saying it was a toy he had brought from abroad, perfect for An’an’s age.
Li Datao’s business had been growing, and he had encountered many temptations along the way.
However, he had made it through the toughest years step by step, developing a very strong character. No one could easily win his favor.
Even though he had become a small business owner in others’ eyes, his lifestyle was still simple. As long as the clothes were decent, he didn’t care much about appearance.
When others suggested introducing beautiful women in business partnerships, he wasn’t interested. Though they were indeed pretty, they couldn’t compare to the relationship he had built with Fan Chunxiang, step by step.
The only thing that worked on him was his love for his son. The toys for children were something that could touch his heart.
These toys hadn’t appeared in China yet. After eating, An’an played with them until nine o’clock, still full of energy. If it hadn’t been for Fan Chunxiang urging him to sleep, he might have played until midnight.
The next day, it was the weekend. After breakfast, An’an went to the study to practice writing. Li Datao passed by the door and saw An’an’s serious little face. He gently knocked on the door.
He gestured to An’an, letting him know that the three of them had planned to go out and have some fun together.
Between practicing writing and going out to play, An’an hesitated for a second before quickly throwing his pen aside.
Since his father had become busier with work, it had been a long time since the family of three had gone out together. This temptation was irresistible for An’an.
In the sentence his teacher had asked them to write for homework, he wrote about how he wanted his father to spend more time with him.
Li Datao had chosen the amusement park. On weekends, many parents took their children there to play. An’an, holding his father’s hand in one hand and his mother’s in the other, was so happy he skipped as he walked, with sunlight casting a glow on his hair.
When they got tired and were about to take a break on a bench, An’an suddenly heard a familiar voice.
“Mom, I told you I don’t want to go out and play. I want to stay home and read. I must be better than my desk mate!”
Wu Jingyu had just spoken when he noticed the kid sitting on the bench. He looked familiar.
