    Chapter 6

The weather has been pretty good these last few days, and the sausage, basking in the sun, started to release oil and a savory aroma that spread through the air. It attracted An An, who now lay under it every day, gazing up longingly.

Although the year hadn’t yet come, Fan Chunxiang had already steamed some sausages in advance.

An An had already learned to feed himself with a spoon. One hand held the bowl, while the other firmly grasped the spoon, as he seriously scooped food into his mouth.

The 250 system saw his satisfied little face and, filled with a sense of sympathy, even forgot its original purpose. It began to offer An An some advice.

“Would you like to improve your family’s situation?”

    “Huh?”

A brief moment of confusion flashed across An An’s clear, wide eyes. He had no real understanding of family circumstances yet. As long as he wasn’t hungry and had his parents around, that was enough for him.

At this point, the 250 system suddenly realized that bringing up this topic to An An was essentially like playing a tune for a cow.

His cheeks, stuffed with food, puffed out as he chewed laboriously, resembling a little hamster.

Strangely, 250 started to feel emotions that it shouldn’t have, a sense of guilt. It felt it was wrong to disturb An An while he was enjoying such delicious food. It felt like a sin.

A plate of freshly dried sausages, simply steamed, tasted incredible, and An An, having it for the first time, loved it immensely.

After eating two pieces, he noticed that his parents had not taken any. His eating slowed down gradually.

Having spent months together, Fan Chunxiang knew very well how stubborn An An was. She didn’t insist on keeping all the tasty food for him. Instead, the three of them shared it equally.

After dinner, An An played in the yard. Perhaps because he had spent too much time in dark places, he especially enjoyed the sunlight.

The warm sunlight fell on his chubby face, and An An squinted his eyes in pleasure.

    Just then, 250 spoke again:

“Would you like to have delicious food like this at every meal?”

For a child of his age, delicious food should have been irresistible, yet unexpectedly, An An changed his posture, propped his small hands on his head, and after thinking for a while, he bit his lip, suppressing his desires, and firmly shook his head.

    “No, I don’t.”

The meat was delicious, and even now, An An couldn’t help but salivate when he thought of it.

However, when he went out with his mother to sell things before, he had already developed a vague concept of money. He knew that those tasty things cost money.

His mother worked all day, never resting to earn money. His father’s hands had become terrifyingly deformed, and just looking at them made him feel pain.

If it meant paying such a price, he could manage with rice porridge every day, as long as it kept him from starving.

“Why don’t you want it? Didn’t you enjoy it before?”

250’s system internal voice showed a sense of helplessness. For such a young host, it could think of no other way to tempt him besides using food. Fame, wealth, and power were things only adults would pursue.

    “Mom and Dad, they’re tired.”

An An continued to look up, letting the sunlight fall on his face, and he had no intention of continuing this conversation with the system.

“Then, would you like to make it so your mom and dad aren’t so tired?”

    “Huh? Yes!”

    “Then listen to me.”

    “Okay.”

An An obediently nodded his little head, and the ball on his hat swayed with the motion, making him seem incredibly gullible.

The system was very clear that its meddling now had the purpose of ensuring a better future for An An, but seeing how readily An An accepted it, it still felt an inexplicable sense of guilt.

    “Come on~”

An An, who had been waiting for an answer for a long time, became anxious. He furrowed his little brows and urged the system in his mind to hurry, afraid that it would change its mind and no longer want to talk to him.

Even though he was still a wobbly little human, it didn’t stop An An from wanting to help improve his family’s condition.

Perhaps it was in response to the fate assigned to him by that person, who had declared his destiny as valuable and that he was incredibly smart from a young age.

Most children at that age wouldn’t remember much, but Xie Shi’an was different. He remembered everything clearly.

Even now, Xie Shi’an had hazy memories of his past life.

He knew that his original family had been wealthy, even feared by the royal family, with a long-established history.

So, when he found out that using this child’s soul to protect the ancestral home would ensure the prosperity of his family, Xie Shi’an’s father didn’t hesitate for long before making his choice.

At that time, his family had been prosperous, and everything he wanted was within reach. From a young age, Xie Shi’an had always had the best of everything.

But to Xie Shi’an, that all paled in comparison to sitting in this dilapidated house, drinking rice porridge.

“In the next few years, recycling waste will be quite profitable.”

The system couldn’t reveal too much, so it just told An An this. But it overlooked the fact that An An was still too young, and his mind couldn’t grasp the concept. He sat there thinking for a long time but couldn’t figure out what recycling waste meant.

An An didn’t understand what it was about, so he sulked for a while, lying there.

Even though he was young, he knew that everything he had—the good parents, the warmth, everything—was thanks to the 250 system that had brought him here. He didn’t dare offend the system and didn’t ask any further questions.

Recently, the system had undergone an upgrade, and it could tell that if An An hadn’t been killed during his childhood in that other world, with his fate, he could have ascended to become an emperor.

An An didn’t ask, so the system didn’t continue to elaborate, thinking that An An had already made up his mind.

Time passed slowly, and soon snow began to fall in their small town. The weather got colder, and every morning there was a thin layer of frost on the windows.

On the first day of snow, An An woke up quietly, not making a sound, and just leaned on the windowsill, gazing outside.

Even though he couldn’t reach it, he stubbornly stretched his hand out, trying to touch the snow.

A gust of wind blew snowflakes into An An’s palm. The icy sensation quickly turned to water, and the strange feeling made An An’s eyes widen in amazement, full of curiosity.

Just then, Li Datou came in from outside, rubbing his cold hands. When he saw An An only wearing a cotton jacket, he immediately frowned.

An An, with his sharp perception, noticed his father entering, but by the time he tried to rush back into bed, it was too late. He could only stiffly turn around and give his father a big grin.

    “Daddy, hug, hug An An~”

Li Datou couldn’t hear him speak, but from the way An An stretched out his arms, he understood what he meant. He walked over and picked him up.

An An leaned in, rubbing his soft cheeks against his father’s rough face, looking like a little child trying to be cute after making a mistake. It was especially endearing.

This appearance, as if he feared his father would get angry, made Li Datou lose his temper.

New Year’s was the biggest and most important holiday in their country. As the holiday approached, Li Datou looked at An An’s patched clothes and began to discuss with Fan Chunxiang.

In all these years, they had never thought about preparing properly for the New Year.

To them, clothes only needed to keep them warm, just enough to prevent them from freezing to death. Buying new clothes was a waste of money, and they couldn’t bear to spend it.

But this year, with An An around, cute, obedient, and thoughtful, they couldn’t help but want to give him everything.

Fan Chunxiang counted the money she had on hand. She had earned quite a bit from the handmade items she had sold.

Additionally, Li Datou’s sanitation job had given him a year-end bonus, unlike the previous years when they were struggling.

Using sign language, she communicated with Li Datou, and in the afternoon, the three of them went to look for new clothes for An An, getting him a complete new outfit from inside to outside.

An An was good-looking, and wearing new clothes would definitely make him even more charming.

Ever since it started snowing, he had been excited, bouncing around. His little face was flushed, and after playing for a while, he even grabbed a handful of snow and, like showing off a treasure, handed it to Fan Chunxiang.

She nodded first, then reached out to straighten An An’s crooked hat before telling him to throw the snow aside.

An An didn’t want to part with the snow. Subconsciously, he hid his hand behind his back, wanting to play a little longer.

Noticing his resistance, Fan Chunxiang extended her hand toward him and looked at him with steady eyes.

Faced with the choice between snow and his mother’s warm embrace, An An didn’t hesitate and decisively threw the snow aside, wobbling into Fan Chunxiang’s arms, calling out in his babyish voice:

    “Mom~”
