Having finished making their vows, the two children turned their gazes toward Ren Xin, waiting for her own grand declaration.

Ren Xin said nonchalantly, “My dowry money is more than enough. The only reason I married your father was for wealth and prestige, not for a shred of true love. Therefore, I will not be striving for self-improvement! Don’t try to force me.”

The two children: “???” Was there something wrong with this adult?

Outside the door, Qiao Ce couldn’t help but chuckle. That was certainly blunt. However, it was a stroke of accidental genius, as it had actually motivated the children to better themselves.

Ren Xin disagreed. “You can call him the Cowherd, but you can’t call me the Princess. I haven’t even slept with many men, so saying that is basically slander.”

Book Spirit Number One was indignant. “I’ll say what I want!”

Seeing that both children were asleep, Qiao Ce spoke softly to Ren Xin. “I’ve wronged you.”

Ren Xin didn’t feel wronged at all. She looked at Qiao Ce with pity and said, “Just take good care of your health. Your blessings are yet to come. I’ll treat you well, so don’t you worry!”

Qiao Ce: “???” Something felt off about those words!

After finishing her empty promises, Ren Xin pulled the chubby Jiaojiao into her arms and fell asleep as well.

Qiao Ce remained awake for a long time. He had just interrogated Wuenci’s wet nurse, and as expected, something was suspicious.

She admitted to taking money from Wuenci’s maternal grandmother to drive a wedge between Ren Xin and the children. However, she hadn’t expected his new wife to be so likable that the children took to her immediately.

But there was another person involved whom he hadn’t expected: Ren Xin’s cousin.

He looked at Ren Xin through the shimmering moonlight as she buried her head against Jiaojiao, feeling a bit dazed. It felt like a very ordinary day, with happiness coming almost too easily.

He hoped she wouldn’t let him down.

Early the next morning, Qiao Ce rose and took Qiao Wuenci out to practice a set of fist techniques. Along the way, he explained to the boy, “Your wet nurse accidentally broke her leg yesterday. I gave her some silver and sent her back to her hometown. It just so happens her son had a child, so she’s going home to enjoy her retirement.”

Qiao Wuenci froze for a moment, asking uneasily, “Did Nanny do something wrong?”

Qiao Ce didn’t hide it from him. “Yes, she made a mistake. But I didn’t treat her too harshly. After all, she served you for a long time, so I allowed her to leave with her dignity intact.”

Qiao Wuenci nodded. A child’s intuition told him not to press further; even if he did, his father wouldn’t give him an answer.

Qiao Ce asked as if casually, “What do you think of this mother?”

At the mention of Ren Xin, Qiao Wuenci’s eyes filled with smiles. “I like her. I think I liked her from the moment we first met. Little Sister likes her too!”

Qiao Ce patted Qiao Wuenci’s head and said with a smile, “Then let’s go wash up and head back to call them for breakfast?”

“Okay!”

Ren Xin was still sleeping with her arms around Jiaojiao. Jiaojiao was already awake, but she didn’t dare move an inch, letting Ren Xin hold her. It gave her the feeling of being embraced by her own mother.

When there was movement in the outer room, Ren Xin slowly woke up. She nuzzled her head against Jiaojiao’s cheek and gave a soft morning greeting. “Did Jiaojiao sleep well last night?”

Jiaojiao answered brightly, “I slept very well. Being held by Mother made me feel warm all over.”

Ren Xin replied happily, “I slept wonderfully too. Jiaojiao is so chubby and soft to hold! You’ll sleep with Mother again tonight, okay?”

“Okay~”

These words caused the entering Qiao Ce to pause. Was his wedding night going to have to wait until the children were fully grown?
