    Chapter 124: The Doomsday Martyr – 7

Ren Xin never expected to find a laboratory on the tenth floor. Inside, several nauseating zombies and mutated animals were locked away.

A dying white tiger lay huddled in a cage. Beside it were the carcasses of other predators; their remains bore clear signs of the immense torture they had endured before death.

The white tiger’s gaze swept over Ren Xin’s direction before it quietly lowered its head again, as if waiting for death, as if it had already accepted its fate.

Ren Xin couldn’t bear the sight. She edged closer to the white tiger and sat cross-legged beside it.

She waited until the laboratory staff had left one by one, then scanned the area. Finding no cameras or similar surveillance equipment, she knew things would be much easier.

Ren Xin whispered to the white tiger, “Do you want to come with me?”

The white tiger did not react.

Ren Xin continued to pester it. “Let’s get out of here. You’ll die if you stay like this. I’ll take you somewhere else, and you can see if you like it. I’m telling you, this ginseng isn’t always this helpful. You should learn to cherish it.”

The white tiger’s ears twitched, but it still didn’t move.

With a wave of her hand, Ren Xin pulled the white tiger into her space and followed it inside.

“Huhu, have you thought it over?”

Book Spirit Number One was displeased. “Host, don’t let this vixen trick you. I’ve seen plenty of tigers like this; they go around every realm just to scam people for food and drinks.”

Ren Xin ignored him. This Huhu was good-looking; it would be this ginseng’s mount from now on.

The white tiger still didn’t answer. Ren Xin suspected Huhu had some sort of psychological trauma, which only made her feel more protective.

She started digging through her collection.

“Huhu, this Recovery Pill is good, eat it! And this pill seems to allow animals to speak. Grandpa Mountain used to ramble about it. Give it a try. Anyway, you’re already half-dead, so it doesn’t really matter if it kills you or not.”

    The white tiger: “…”

Book Spirit Number One suddenly felt that his jealousy was ridiculous. Being targeted by this wild ginseng was hardly a stroke of good luck.

The white tiger obediently swallowed the pills. The matter of the mount was settled.

“So filthy,” Ren Xin said with a look of disgust. “Just how much junk food did you eat? There’s so much sludge1 coming out of you…”

The white tiger felt wronged. It had been injected with all sorts of strange substances by those wicked humans. How could it not be dirty!

Ren Xin led the white tiger to the bathing area and instructed, “Make sure you use the body wash a few times, alright? You’re too dirty. Using adult body wash won’t make your fur fall out, will it?”

A cute, milky little voice rang out, “No, my fur is very strong.”

Ren Xin asked curiously, “Do you have balls?”

The white tiger: “…” We just met; you’re overstepping.

    Fine then!

Eventually, Ren Xin discovered that Huhu was a cute girl. A tiger with psychological trauma—she seemed like she’d be expensive to maintain.

When Ren Xin stepped back out, the lab was still empty. This meant no one had noticed Huhu was missing yet.

Ren Xin moved quickly, passing straight through the walls.

    Book Spirit Number One: “…”

“Host, aren’t your cheats a bit too many? And a bit too powerful? Why didn’t I realize you were this capable before?”

Ren Xin kindly offered an explanation. “In the previous small worlds, the consciousness of the Heavenly Dao2 was awake. I had to show a bit of respect and stay as low-profile as possible. But the Heavenly Dao of this world is chaotic and at the end of its rope; it will dissipate soon. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be an apocalypse. That’s why I can run wild without any worries.”

Book Spirit Number One was still profoundly shocked. Just what kind of ancestor was he serving?

    Translator’s Notes

    1. sludge: This refers to ‘Marrow Cleansing’ (Xisui), a common trope in Chinese cultivation where a body expels black, foul-smelling impurities through the pores after consuming high-grade pills or spiritual energy, resulting in a purified physical form.
    2. Heavenly Dao: The ‘Tiandao’ is the supreme natural order or the ‘will of the heavens’ that governs the universe. In ‘Quick Transmigration’ or cultivation novels, it often acts as a sentient world-consciousness that enforces the rules of fate and restricts overly powerful entities.
