Wang Qiang didn’t pay much attention to the frail old lady, instead focusing on guiding Ren Xin to her work.
“Xiao Ren, don’t be fooled by our seemingly ordinary working environment…”
Ren Xin looked around and felt like she was in a junkyard.
“Brother Qiang, what kind of rice have you been eating? This place is ‘ordinary’?”
Wang Qiang was momentarily stunned but quickly resumed his pitch. “You need to understand, our industry is misunderstood. We’re doing a job full of justice and heroism…”
Ren Xin wasn’t buying it. She went straight to the point. “Just tell me—does the base salary still apply?”
Wang Qiang awkwardly scratched his chubby face before shamelessly admitting, “Okay, fine, I admit I lied, but you have to understand—no base salary means there’s no salary cap!”
Ren Xin: “……….” Liars are like toads!
But she didn’t give up and asked, “So, does it include meals?”
Wang Qiang looked at her with disdain. “Sis, what are you dreaming about? My three meals a day are a struggle!”
Ren Xin: “……..” Indeed, you only have one life, but problems seem endless~
In the end, Ren Xin left, carrying the malice the world had shown her, preparing to go out and enjoy a big meal. She was celebrating her return to being a noble unemployed wanderer.
The system, Xiao Hu, didn’t know where its soul had gone. It seemed everything had to be done by herself.
The spicy and numbing hot pot really hit the spot, making her sweat profusely. Just like her life, it was truly pitiful. As she pitied herself, she overheard some conversation from the next table.
“Hey, did you hear? The crew for The Scheming Prince and His Lovely Princess is looking for extras. I heard the lead is confirmed—the Film Emperor, Gu Pan’an. This show is going to be a big hit!”
“It’s just a small web drama. Why would someone of his stature be involved? Is this some kind of rumor?”
“Don’t say that, I’ve heard the same. Apparently, the Film Emperor is doing this to help promote Mu Feng, someone from the same agency.”
“Well, if that’s true, then we’ve got a shot! If we can get into this crew, maybe we can make it big. At least the pay will be good.”
A middle-aged man scoffed, “You’re dreaming. The news we hear is already old news to others. It’s a dog-eat-dog world—everyone’s fighting for a chance!”
The others lowered their heads, eating their noodles with grim expressions. It was so hard to get ahead in this industry.
After they left, Ren Xin’s eyes lit up. She felt a deep satisfaction rising from within. It was truly fulfilling.
Gossip really was a woman’s best nourishment. Ren Xin felt revitalized, as if her entire being had been recharged.
She knew exactly what she had to do now!!
…
“Big Brother, this lunch box is yours. Next one… I don’t know what’s inside; I’m just a part-time worker… Alright, I’ll take note of your suggestion.”
Ren Xin, wearing an apron with the snack shop’s logo all over it, confidently handed out lunch boxes, wiped nonexistent sweat from her brow, and pretended to tidy up while listening to the grumbling and gossip from the extras.
“I used to like Chen Ruwei. I was so excited to see her up close here, but now… it’s just so disappointing. She’s really something…”
“Tell me about it. Her persona is just too much…”
“Did you see the Film Emperor earlier? His relationship with Mu Feng is really great, and I think Mu Feng’s personality is really nice. When Chen messed up her lines earlier, he didn’t even get angry.”
“The Film Emperor is so handsome. He’s nothing like us normal folks…”
…
Everyone quickly finished their lunch, grouped in twos and threes, waiting for the next arrangement from the assistant director.
Ren Xin sat there, her mind filled with all kinds of nonsense gossip. She clicked her tongue in satisfaction. Humans were definitely more interesting than magical creatures. Even nonsense could be fascinating.
