Highway Survival C40
by MarineTLChapter 40: Highway Pursuit
Time to stretch those muscles!
Under the bright moonlight, a woman stood draped in a silver-white cloak, only the slight upward curve of her lips visible.
She held a throwing knife. The blade flashed like an arrow, sweeping through everything in its path with unstoppable force, leaving nothing intact. After cutting down all her targets, it spun through the air and returned obediently to her hand.
With the massive shift on the Wealth Leaderboard, the chat channel was absolutely exploding!
“Holy crap, am I seeing things?”
“You’re not seeing things. Big Boss Mo and her crew must have robbed a bank.”
“+1. I suspect the same. Otherwise, how could the top three on the Wealth Leaderboard all change in an instant?”
“Wait, it’s over thirty thousand gold coins. Even robbing a bank wouldn’t be this fast, right?”
“Looking at the thirty gold coins in my hand and crying tears of pure envy.”
“Big Boss Mo, how did you make so many gold coins in a single day? Start a class, please! I’ll learn on my knees!”
“+1, please start a class!”
…
“+10086”
“Do you think Big Boss Mo was the one who opened that milk tea shop today? Otherwise, there’s no explaining where all these gold coins came from.”
“I think so too! Look, the big boss and her companions, three of them, got rich overnight. And those unscrupulous cat employees at the milk tea shop just happened to be a trio as well!”
“Wake up, poster above. Are you trying to say Big Boss Mo is a tabby cat, a calico cat, or a lion cat?”
“As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve seen Big Boss Mo in the Service Area. She is definitely a human!”
“But honestly, even though we restocked on water and food today, being treated like a trash can really didn’t feel good.”
“Furious but dare not speak.jpg”
“I clearly saw that calico cat accidentally add sugar three times, but in the end, I still had to meekly accept that sickeningly sweet milk tea QAQ”
“Stop arguing! It looks like the snack shop moved the milk tea shop’s vending machine over, and now one has turned into two. You can exchange basic materials in them! Anyone who needs materials to upgrade should go trade right now!”
“Indeed, the prices are incredibly reasonable. I used three Tracking Gold Coins to trade for a lot of materials and finally upgraded to level three!”
“Ahhh, really? All I’ve been getting from crates are Iron Blocks. I’m only twelve batteries away from upgrading. I’ll go check it out right now.”
“I will forever be the most loyal guardian of the snack shop.”
“I will forever be the snack shop’s most loyal dog, woof woof woof!”
“Woof woof woof! I am!”
“Wow. I’m clearly the one.”
Mo Yubai had no idea she had gained several more loyal dogs. She killed monsters for a while, and upon seeing them quickly retreat just like they had yesterday, she let out a bored sigh.
Instead of returning to the car, she sat cross-legged on top of the vehicle. Feeling the biting cold of the night wind, she looked up at the soft moonlight and sighed.
“As expected, the moon is brightest over one’s hometown[1]…”
Before she could rest for long, she suddenly felt the movement of the highway merging.
Instantly alert, she sprang to her feet, slipped through the window into the passenger seat with a quick twist, and gripped her throwing knife tightly.
Before her stood a group of fierce, scarred men, about eight or nine in total. All of them were riding Electric Tricycles, laughing with arrogant, malicious triumph as they stared at Mo Yubai.
Mo Yubai lightly stroked the Metal Armor beneath her cloak. She let out a quiet sigh of relief, glad she had remained vigilant and kept her armor on at all times.
She communicated with Xiao Ling in her mind, Xiao Ling, ignore them. With our speed, they won’t be able to catch us.
Sensing the group of men behind the vehicle, Xiao Ling’s electronic voice trembled slightly. “Host, I’m scared.”
Hearing Xiao Ling’s trembling voice, a trace of helplessness flickered in Mo Yubai’s eyes. She stared coldly at the pursuing men. “Don’t be afraid, Xiao Ling. Trust me. There are no firearms in this game. If they want to kill me, they have to get close or use bows and arrows.”
“They can’t possibly keep up with our speed, so they’ll likely shoot arrows or throw darts at me.”
“But my throwing knives are much faster than they are. Beside, the Pickled Pepper Fish Head provides at least some cover, whereas their Electric Tricycles are completely open to the elements.”
With that, looking at the newly merged highway, Mo Yubai threw her knife without hesitation at the leading man.
The man was clearly the leader for a reason and possessed some skill. The throwing knife only sliced off one of his ears before returning to Mo Yubai’s hand.
Clutching the side of his head where his ear had been, blood seeping through his fingers and dripping down his cheek onto his collar, the leader roared with bloodshot eyes, “Gangzi! Transfer your limited-time Acceleration Coin to me! Even if I get ten percent less of the gold coins today, I’m going to hack this bitch into mincemeat!”
A tall, muscular man in a dark red shirt grinned lewdly at the command, transferring the Acceleration Coin to the black-clad leader without a second thought.
“Brother Biao, this little lady has such smooth skin, and she’s number one in combat power. I’ve never had a woman like this before. Go easy on her, let me have my fun first before we kill her.”
Hearing this, the surrounding men burst into excited laughter as if they had just taken some miraculous elixir. Like uncivilized beasts, they let out howling, feral jeers.
Mo Yubai did not even blink at their words. Even in times of peace, there was never a shortage of rape, murder, and sexual assault.
Men might look decent enough on the surface, but once their lust took over, they would shed their human skin and turn into beasts in an instant.
They would even show mutual understanding for another man’s harassment of women, banding together to tear at their prey until she was either completely broken or dead.
Therefore, in the extreme environment of this Survival Game, she never cared about the malice and humiliation these men spewed.
After all, beasts on the verge of death only spoke filth. She would take their lives with her own hands.
Seeing that Mo Yubai remained completely unfazed by their insults and simply continued to accelerate, the men’s expressions darkened. It seemed this woman was indeed a tough nut to crack.
At that moment, the black-clad leader used the limited-time Acceleration Coin. With a sudden burst of speed, he rammed into Mo Yubai’s Pickled Pepper Fish Head. With a loud crash, the Pickled Pepper Fish Head was slammed violently toward the trees lining the highway.
Mo Yubai narrowed her eyes at the other vehicles, which were still some distance away, and a cold sneer played on her lips.
The moment she flung the car door open, she kicked off the ground with explosive force. Her body shot forward like an arrow from a bow, her throwing knife flying alongside her as she instantly closed the distance to the leader, who was just preparing to strike.
Relying on her extreme speed, the moment the man dodged the throwing knife, Mo Yubai delivered a powerful kick.
With a dull thud, the man’s massive frame was sent flying, crashing heavily against a towering tree like a ragdoll.
Seizing the advantage, Mo Yubai leaped forward and pinned the struggling man’s head to the ground with her foot.
Seeing that he still seemed confident, Mo Yubai’s mind stirred, and a longsword from her inventory instantly materialized in her hand.
Under the man’s shocked gaze, she plunged the blade into his heart without hesitation, then twisted it hard to shred the organ completely.
The man’s eyes bulged as he stared at Mo Yubai, his left hand still shoved in his pants pocket. He had clearly never expected a woman to kill with such absolute lack of hesitation. Only his shattered heart remained to confirm his death.
The chest of his black shirt grew wet, and the thick stench of blood instantly filled the air. Mo Yubai frowned in annoyance, scraping her shoe against the dirt by the roadside with disgust.
She then quickly stood up, got back into the car, and told Xiao Ling to keep driving.
