Slacker Second Gen C33
by MarineTLChapter 33: Dragon Dad 3
When the news of the newborn dragon hatching spread, the entire Central Magic Academy was abuzz. Not only were the students making various speculations both in and outside of class, but the teachers also hoped to see the appearance of the new dragon hatchling.
They couldn’t enter the Giant Dragon Tower freely and could only hope to encounter her when Lacia took the hatchling out. Fortunately, Lacia had been fond of taking walks recently, and as long as they were near the vibrant forests or herb gardens on the campus, they had a chance to meet him.
It wasn’t long before the teachers had all seen the newborn dragon.
Professor Wizierd, who taught the history of magic, fell into a long silence after seeing the hatchling. Then, suddenly, he clutched his head and ran off, screaming wildly.
Professor Wizierd was an avid dragon enthusiast and one of the greatest and most learned human mages of the time. He had turned down an invitation from the Magic Research Institute to come to the Central Magic Academy because the last living dragon was here.
He had spent decades searching through ancient texts and compiled a comprehensive Dragon’s Encyclopedia, which was hailed as the most complete record of dragonkind.
Now, Professor Wizierd was racing back to update the Dragon’s Encyclopedia with a new category for this unique dragon.
There was also Professor Medman, who taught magical creatures and summoning. She was an eccentric genius, reputed to have successfully summoned creatures from other worlds. However, she was so engrossed in researching magic arrays that she couldn’t resist experimenting with any strange materials she found.
“Professor Lacia, could you give me some of her shed scales, dragon horn powder, or hair…”
Before she could finish, Professor Lacia froze her into a thick block of ice and smiled as he gently pressed her into the ground.
After dealing with several colleagues, Principal Ude found Lacia.
“Professor Lacia, can you go teach the students now?”
Lacia was currently completely absorbed in his newly hatched child. He didn’t mind spending every second watching her and had no intention of teaching a bunch of mischievous human kids.
He gently scratched the hatchling’s chin.
“No.”
Principal Ude nodded. He hadn’t expected Lacia to go, and he was actually here to discuss something else.
“Professor Lacia, recently, Professor Wizierd has been engrossed in updating the Dragon’s Encyclopedia, Professor Buckbe has been recovering from his injuries, and now, Professor Medman has been frozen by you… Their classes have no one to teach them. Could you please, perhaps, step in for them? I’m worried that if this continues, there will be no teachers left for the students.”
Principal Ude, though elderly, was skilled at feigning helplessness.
Lacia looked at his pitiful expression and suddenly said, “Fine, I’ll teach their classes.”
Principal Ude: “?”
Lacia: “I know how to teach History of Magic, Martial Arts, and Magical Creatures and Summoning. Are you worried I can’t teach?”
Seeing that Lacia was about to leave, his long braid swaying behind him, Principal Ude reached out a trembling hand to try to stop him. “Professor, aren’t you busy teaching the hatchling? How will you have time for class?”
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Lacia’s abilities; it was that he didn’t trust the students’ capacity to handle it!
In past years, Lacia’s Dragon Language class had been psychologically damaging to the students, and now, he was going to teach so many subjects. He truly feared the children wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Lacia: “I’ll bring Qian to see the human children.”
“Professor! Lacia, wait! Please think about it more!” The elderly Principal Ude, holding his robes, sprinted after the giant dragon.
After chasing for three corridors, he couldn’t change Lacia’s mind.
The students didn’t know how much their Principal Ude had been worried about their mental health. When they heard that Professor Lacia would be teaching them, most of them were filled with excitement and curiosity.
Even the older students, who had suffered through his teachings, were looking forward to seeing the hatchling, not to mention the new students.
Three months into the semester, this was the first time they were going to see the real Lacia.
Thinking about the silver giant dragon they had briefly seen at the beginning of the term, they couldn’t wait!
When the silver-haired man in magic robes entered the spacious lecture hall, all the students quieted down. They stared in awe as their teacher walked up to the podium and set down a pot of plants.
It wasn’t until he turned his gaze toward the students that a group of twelve-year-olds snapped back to reality and found their breath.
Almost every student’s face turned red.
Lacia’s beauty was beyond question. Even when dragons were flourishing, the Ice Dragon was famous for being one of the most beautiful in the dragon clan.
This happened every year, and Lacia had long grown used to it. He knew that within a semester, these students would no longer blush at the sight of him. Their little faces would only become paler.
In past years, Lacia would have given his dizzy, dazed little students a lesson they would never forget, but… today, he brought his hatchling to class.
So, all the students watched as Lacia leaned against the podium, reaching out to fiddle with the potted plant he had brought.
“Qian, come look, there are many human children here.”
The beautiful and gentle smile on his face was too much to handle, and the students in the front row almost fainted, staring at the dangling earrings on his cheeks.
Of course, some sharp-eyed students noticed that the potted plant was unusual.
A girl screamed while holding her face, “Ahhh! It’s a baby dragon!”
The classroom instantly erupted into chaos.
Compared to his beautiful human form, the dragon form was even more exciting.
If it weren’t for the invisible aura Lacia exuded, the students would have rushed to the podium immediately. Instead, they could only lean forward desperately or climb on their desks to get a better view.
The sudden noise woke the little green dragon curled up on the potted tree.
Like human infants, the hatchling was still very young and confused.
She lifted her head from the tree trunk and met a sea of shining eyes. Instinctively, she looked back for a familiar and reassuring presence. In the next moment, a hand adorned with magical dragon patterns reached out, allowing her to climb onto it.
Once she was off the potted tree, her appearance became much clearer.
The hatchling looked different from what the students had seen in the encyclopedia, but who cared? This was a living, breathing dragon!
She was so unique. The greenish-blue scales on her body shimmered with delicate greenish light under the sunlight, occasionally refracting blue light. Her entire body resembled a gem sculpture, especially her eyes, which were filled with radiance.
“Oh, oh, oh! A baby dragon, a baby dragon!”
“Ah, ah, ah, such a beautiful little dragon, I want to touch it!”
“Her color is so beautiful, even more dazzling than the most beautiful emerald in my home!”
A group of students was nearly going crazy, their excited chatter filling the air.
The giant dragon, in a good mood after showing off her child, smiled broadly and reminded, “Alright, it’s time for class. Please sit down.”
However, the students were still immersed in their excitement and couldn’t calm down just yet.
Lacia smiled and waited for three seconds.
After three seconds, an extremely cold storm swept through the entire classroom, freezing the overly excited group of students into trembling quails.
As they opened their mouths, a gust of cold air blasted out.
“Can you calm down now? Please sit back in your seats.”
Seeing that the students obediently sat down, Lacia raised his precious baby dragon in one hand and picked up a pen in the other.
“Today’s lesson is Dragon Language.” Lacia’s voice was captivating, and when he spoke, his movements were just as slow and graceful, with a natural rhythm to them.
The two major systems of magical spells are Dragon Language and Elven Language, and as a mage, this is the most fundamental of the basics.
Mages who graduate from the Central Magic Academy are generally stronger and more outstanding than those from other academies, and one of the reasons is that their Dragon Language instructor is a real giant dragon.
And, he is particularly strict.
“I hope everyone studies hard. If you don’t study well…” Lacia paused for a moment, looking around at the students, simply smiling.
He appeared gentle, but the cold light in his purple eyes was terrifying.
Everyone shivered in unison.
“Qi… Qi!”
The little green dragon, held in Lacia’s hand, let out a soft sound, prompting the giant dragon, who had been threatening the students, to immediately lower its head to check on her.
“Ah, my baby, are you feeling too cold?”
He lovingly stroked the baby dragon’s head with his thumb, murmuring a short phrase in Dragon Language.
The frost in the large classroom visibly melted, and even the water vapor evaporated. The temperature became more comfortable than before.
The students: “…”
Lacia’s ability to switch between two personas was truly seamless.
The Dragon Language class officially began.
This was undoubtedly the most difficult subject, with the lengthy and complex Dragon Language. Even the basics were so difficult that many students quickly became drowsy, feeling that the language might have a hypnotic effect, especially when paired with Lacia’s pleasant voice, as if he was lulling them to sleep.
But, aside from the baby dragon, no one could sleep because the giant dragon teacher was watching them.
As soon as anyone spaced out, the ruthless and unrelenting Lacia would precisely call them out and give them a refreshing frost spell, a small-scale but accurate strike.
There happened to be a particularly large number of students who spaced out during this class.
Many students couldn’t control their gazes and kept drifting toward the baby dragon.
The baby dragon had returned to the potted plant.
Inside the pot was a small tree with white flower buds on its branches. These buds were closed, but when the baby dragon had rested enough and started to move curiously, the buds suddenly opened, and small elves flew out from inside.
The thumb-sized elves picked fruit from the buds and flew to the baby dragon’s mouth, offering the fruit to her.
The baby dragon opened her mouth, swallowed a piece of fruit, tilted her head back, stretched her neck, and ate happily.
“What is this?”
“It looks like an elf?”
“Is this the legendary milkwood fruit tree of the elves?”
A group of students was glued to the baby dragon’s eating broadcast, unable to stop watching.
It is said that when elves are born, they are cared for by the small elves growing in the Elf Forest. These small elves cultivate the milkwood fruit trees and diligently feed the young elves.
The teacher who taught them Elven Language and the Magical Plant Encyclopedia was a wood elf, who had described it to them, but this was their first time seeing these small elves, capable of taking care of children, and the milkwood fruit trees that only grow in the Elf Forest.
The students who spaced out and watched the eating broadcast were quickly punished.
Whether Lacia was facing away from the students, writing Dragon Language, or lowering his head to check on the baby dragon, he could give a cold frost strike at any moment, without even raising his head, to those students who weren’t paying attention.
By the end of the class, the students, both mentally and physically exhausted, deeply engraved the Dragon Language they had learned and the image of the terrifying Lacia teacher into their minds. They also understood why the senior students had those expressions when speaking of Lacia teacher at the beginning of the semester.
Moreover, they couldn’t help but start to envy that baby dragon!
It would be one thing if Lacia was so strict and terrifying with everyone, but he was just so good to his own baby dragon. The stark contrast made them want to cry.
The baby dragon was happily sleeping, eating, watching them, and receiving Lacia’s tender affection, while they had to stay alert and focus on learning Dragon Language.
In the same classroom, the line between joy and suffering was so clearly defined.
In the end, thinking about it, the baby dragon didn’t even need to learn such a difficult language—she was born knowing it… The smartest students in the class couldn’t help but shed tears of envy.
