Chapter 175: After the Wealthy Lady Went Bankrupt – 18

The authorities finally arrived and took over the Tomb Cluster. The rest of the group had to undergo questioning and body searches. This was standard procedure, and Ren Xin didn’t harbor much resentment toward it.

On the return journey, Ren Xin once again rode in Mo Qiuyang’s car. Zhan Tian had taken over the driving duties, while Prison Brother was nowhere to be seen.

Noticing Ren Xin’s confusion, Zhan Tian explained, “He was detained. Because he has a criminal record and knows quite a lot, he’s currently being treated as external personnel.”

“I see. Well, it sounds like his luck is finally turning around!”

Zhan Tian hurriedly pressed for more, “Sister Ren, what about me? Has my luck improved? Am I about to get rich overnight?”

Ren Xin glanced at him and shook her head. “You’re just as you were. You won’t lack for food or drink, but you simply don’t have the fate of the ultra-wealthy.”

Zhan Tian went completely emo. Citing the serious reason that one shouldn’t talk while driving and shouldn’t drive while talking, he refused to communicate with anyone.

Ren Xin: “…” That “anyone” felt a little targeted, don’t you think?

Ever since getting into the car, Mo Qiuyang had been resting with his eyes closed. Ren Xin nudged him. “Wake up. I’m basically your right-hand woman now, and I have a lot of things to verify with you.”

Mo Qiuyang opened his eyes halfway and asked helplessly, “Go ahead.”

“What day is payday? Is the salary pre-tax or post-tax? Is there paid leave? How long is the annual leave? What are the company benefits? Do I get the full insurance and housing fund1 package?”

Mo Qiuyang paused, finding it somewhat amusing. “So, all you care about is your salary? Not your job description?”

Ren Xin replied nonchalantly, “Isn’t acting as a mascot by your side my job description? What else is there to do? I figured that as long as I act useless enough, no one will think I’m actually helpful.”

Mo Qiuyang: “…” He surely wouldn’t be provoked to death by her, right?

Zhan Tian let out a series of raucous laughs from the front seat.

Ren Xin calmly twisted the knife. “What are you laughing at? You’re just an ordinary person who’s never going to strike it rich!”

Zhan Tian: “…” If Brother Mo wasn’t sitting in the car, he would definitely have gone for a double suicide right then and there.

Ren Xin’s workplace now shifted between Mo Qiuyang’s office, his home, and various antique streets and auction houses.

“Can’t you just stay in one place for once?”

Mo Qiuyang had been very busy lately, which caused Ren Xin’s resentment to peak. However, the problem was easily solved: he just had to soothe her with red envelopes2. The amount didn’t have to be large; as long as there was a red envelope, she was happy.

One day, Ren Xin was eagerly trying to coax Mo Qiuyang into going downstairs to buy her milk tea, but Mo Qiuyang was stuck in a meeting.

She had already cleared several levels of her puzzle game, yet that stupid meeting of his still wasn’t over.

Eventually, Ren Xin grew annoyed. She reached out and grabbed the porcelain piece placed in front of Mo Qiuyang. The other senior appraisers turned pale with fright, but Mo Qiuyang didn’t react at all, letting Ren Xin fiddle with the porcelain in her hands.

“This is a fake. Meeting adjourned!”

    Everyone: “…”

A very elderly man asked with a solemn expression, “Where is the flaw?”

There weren’t any physical flaws; the aura of the thing clearly marked it as a modern creation.

    “The aura is wrong!”

    “Nonsense!”

Ren Xin shrugged and ignored the man, speaking directly to Mo Qiuyang. “You guys were planning to auction this porcelain? Who brought it in?”

“An old client. We’ve collaborated for a long time.”

Ren Xin nodded. “Then you’re being set up. This thing was crafted to look exactly like the real deal. All your senior appraisers missed the mark.”

Mo Qiuyang took the porcelain and examined it closely. In truth, he had harbored his own doubts. Everything about it seemed correct, yet he had a feeling that something was missing.
