    Chapter 39: Getting Married

The cold fragrance lingered at the tip of Shen Xiuyan’s nose, and he could easily see the girl’s flushed face and thick, curled eyelashes. His heart skipped a beat.

He instinctively wrapped his arm around the girl’s waist, deepening the kiss.

Su Mingyue, who had only intended to give a light kiss and leave, was stunned. Her face turned bright red, as if it were about to steam.

After a moment, she still felt a bit of enjoyment.

“Miss, the master wants you to come back,” Cui Cui’s voice came.

Upon hearing the voice, the two quickly separated, but the blush on their cheeks and the clear moisture on their lips spoke volumes about what had just happened.

Cui Cui stood frozen for a moment, then quickly turned her head away, her heart screaming like a chicken.

Ahhh, what are you doing in public like this?!!

Could you show some consideration for the single folks?

    This is too eye-catching!!

Shen Xiuyan coughed awkwardly, “Ahem, you go back first, we’ll be right there.”

    Cui Cui suspiciously asked, “Really?”

You’re not going to do something sneaky as soon as I leave, right? If Master finds out, I’ll be the one punished for knowing and not reporting…

    Shen Xiuyan solemnly promised, “Really!”

Su Mingyue angrily said, “Cui Cui—”

Cui Cui muttered, “Alright, alright, I’m going. Miss, you’re really not shy. Why are you already turning your elbow outwards?”

“You’re still talking about me! See if I don’t hit you!” Su Mingyue angrily swung her little fist and was about to chase, but Shen Xiuyan stopped her with one hand.

Cui Cui stuck out her tongue, “Son-in-law, I’m leaving. You make sure to hold onto the miss!”

The word ā€œson-in-lawā€ made both of them blush again.

Su Mingyue also put down her fist and said, ā€œShe grew up with me, just like my sister. Don’t be angry.ā€

Shen Xiuyan, hearing this, was so pleased that he couldn’t be angry.

“I’m not angry. Cui Cui’s not easy either. After we’re married, I’ll give her a big red envelope.”

Su Mingyue nodded heavily, “She deserves it!”

She earned it by being so sensible, after all!

Then, Su Mingyue secretly hooked her pinky with Shen Xiuyan’s.

    Shen Xiuyan hooked it back.

Su Mingyue blushed. She couldn’t help but feel amazed; she had such good taste in men, this seemingly ordinary young genius.

When they returned to the front hall, Master Su was in high spirits, as if the difficult issue that had been troubling him for a long time had finally been solved.

Master Su greeted them, “You’re back! I’ve already discussed it with the in-laws. The wedding will be on the eighth of next month.”

“So soon?” Su Mingyue’s eyes widened as she couldn’t help but ask.

Is her father so eager to marry her off?

    So angry!

Master Su smiled and said, “You don’t understand. This fall is the autumn exam. Both your in-laws and I are hoping that Xiuyan will take the exam. We can’t delay the wedding any longer. What if it affects his studies?”

Su Mingyue still wanted to argue, asking why they couldn’t wait until after the exam, but Master Su shot her a look, and she obediently kept quiet.

Fine, forget it. Marrying Shen Lang earlier is exactly what she wanted, so why make a fuss with her father?

Seeing that Su Mingyue had fallen silent, Master Su nodded in satisfaction. His silly daughter.

Could her father harm her? Shen Xiuyan was this year’s top scholar. If they didn’t lock him in now, would they wait until he passed the exams and then get married?

By then, their statuses would be different.

If he met someone better than the county magistrate’s daughter, Master Su couldn’t guarantee that Shen Xiuyan wouldn’t be moved. Therefore, the priority was to secure the marriage first.

Zhou Shi, seeing the awkward atmosphere between father and daughter, also realized the rush.

But there was nothing she could do. She wanted Xiuyan to continue his studies this year, and bringing him home early would encourage his studies even more.

This did inconvenience the delicate young lady, though.

After thinking for a moment, she quickly smiled and said, “It’s all our fault, we’ve wronged Mingyue, but don’t worry, after you marry, you’ll be the one in charge, and I, as your mother-in-law, will listen to you. I’ll never say anything wrong.”

These words reassured both father and daughter.

Such a sensible mother-in-law was hard to come by.

Master Su smiled even more happily, “Good, good, good. I knew you were a sensible in-law. It’s settled then.”

In a place where no one could see, Su Mingyue secretly grabbed Shen Xiuyan’s hand.

She couldn’t help but feel a sense of expectation for this marriage.

On the eighth of April, an auspicious day.

The weather was beautiful, the sky was clear with fluffy white clouds drifting by, and the air was filled with a faint floral scent.

The red lanterns in front of the Su Family’s door swayed in the wind, and the joyful characters on the door hinted at the happiness of the day.

The sounds of music and drumming filled the air, and the area was packed with people watching the lively event.

“The bride is coming out~” A child’s innocent voice echoed.

Su Mingyue was supported into the bridal sedan.

Shen Xiuyan, dressed in red, sat on the majestic horse in front, looking exceptionally handsome, making many young girls blush.

“The Su Family’s daughter really was fortunate, marrying such a handsome man.”

“I heard he’s the top scholar of the year; maybe soon, the Su Family’s daughter will become the wife of a top scholar.”

Sitting on the horse, Shen Xiuyan felt elated. He was finally getting married!

At this moment, his soul felt uplifted. He thought that even if he were to ride through the streets as a third-place scholar, it wouldn’t be much different.

Could the glory of the imperial exams compare to the shine of today’s red wedding flowers?

    He was that proud!
