by MarineTLChapter 230: Little Evil Dragon in the Western Fairy Tale World
“If Father wants, we can go and snatch from other dragons together. Just don’t pull my tail.”
As Bert said this, he took a few steps back. Although he was brimming with confidence and believed himself to be the strongest dragon cub, even in front of his father, the mightiest of young dragons had to submit.
If his father really insisted on pulling off his tail, he could only clutch his behind and howl in pain.
“But I think Bert’s tail is the most beautiful. What should I do?”
Xie Hui pretended to think seriously before speaking these words.
Although Bert also thought his tail was particularly beautiful, he certainly didn’t want it pulled off. Just the thought of it was painful.
“I can find a prettier one for Father.”
“In my eyes, no other dragon’s tail can compare to Bert’s.”
Xie Hui seemed determined to have his tail. The argument went on without resolution, leaving Bert so conflicted that he curled into a ball.
Either he admitted he was wrong and stopped taking things from others, or he insisted he was right, and his father would pull off his tail.
Xie Hui, accustomed to nipping all dangers in the bud, planned to take Bert to apologize to the king after resolving this matter.
“Father…”
Bert approached Xie Hui, gently tugging at the hem of his clothes with his paw, trying to use a bit of charm to smooth things over.
“Hmm?”
Xie Hui looked down, meeting his gaze, his firm eyes conveying that this matter couldn’t be brushed aside.
“I was wrong…”
Bert lowered his head, obediently admitting his mistake. Of course, as he said this, he didn’t forget to discreetly hide his tail.
“And what should you do when you’re wrong?”
The client had found this dragon on the roadside while heading home. He didn’t know what breed it was, and its parents never appeared. The eggshell gave no clues, and it was growing faster than the client himself.
All in all, it was a dragon not even a month old. Making mistakes was as normal as could be.
“I’m sorry, Father.”
Xie Hui reached out, gently holding Bert’s soft paw in his palm, and softly asked:
“Dear Bert, who do you think truly deserves your apology?”
Although Bert admitted his mistake in front of his father, he was still quite defiant. His eyes began to redden as he walked over to the princess, hanging his head in grievance, and in a soft voice, he apologized:
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have taken you away.”
The Evil Dragon’s Lair wasn’t soundproof, and the princess had overheard their conversation.
In the tales, Evil Dragons were said to eat people alive, so the princess had been very afraid, fearing she wouldn’t see the light of day and would end up as the Evil Dragon’s meal.
In various storybooks, descriptions of Evil Dragons varied, but they were invariably terrifying.
Yet unexpectedly, the real reason… was that this little Evil Dragon in front of her had taken a liking to the hair ornament she wore.
It was a coming-of-age gift from her father, indeed beautiful under the sunlight.
Thinking of how fierce the dragon was when capturing her, and now seeing it obediently bowing its head in front of the larger Evil Dragon, gave the princess some courage to speak:
“If, if you’re willing to take me back to my kingdom, then I’ll forgive you.”
“Do I really have to take you back? But I think you’re a bit heavy, and I can’t carry you.”
Bert didn’t really want to send the princess back. He was quite fond of the shiny jewels on her head.
He even thought, as long as he diligently kept the princess…
After all, dragons live long lives. If he could keep the princess until she grew old and passed, he could inherit all the jewels on her head!
Moreover, the generous Mr. Evil Dragon Bert was willing to share half of the jewels he inherited from the princess with his father.
Seeing Bert’s small dragon body, Xie Hui felt it might be difficult for him to do this task. But looking at his slightly guilty expression, he somehow guessed Bert was making excuses.
“Bert, how did you bring her back in the first place?”
“Probably out of admiration for Father…”
Bert struggled to tuck his paws behind him, but before he could complete the action, Xie Hui gave his head a light tap, and he instinctively cried out in pain.
“Ouch, Father!”
He initially wanted to struggle a bit, but upon seeing his father’s stern gaze, he silently stopped making noise.
“This time, you made a mistake, but part of the responsibility is mine for not supervising you well. So… I’m willing to help you take this princess back.”
After Xie Hui spoke, the princess politely thanked him:
“Alright, thank you.”
Xie Hui had no intention of delaying and immediately planned to take Bert to return the princess to her kingdom.
Upon hearing how they intended to send her back, the princess was initially a bit scared, trying hard not to show her fear.
If the situation hadn’t been so inappropriate, she would have been curious about how such a large dragon managed to carry her by her clothes to the high lair of the Evil Dragon.
Due to her preconceived notions about Evil Dragons, she had thought the erratic flying was the dragon’s way of intimidating her…
But now, seeing the chubby Bert, wobbling as he walked, dragging his tail dejectedly alongside her, she inexplicably believed what he had said earlier.
Perhaps… it really was because he couldn’t carry her.
Xie Hui transformed into his dragon form and lay down outside the cave. Bert climbed onto his back first, finding a comfortable spot where he thought the wind wouldn’t reach him, and cozily snuggled his cheek against his father’s scales.
His father was going to take him flying, which quickly soothed Bert’s disappointment over losing his gem.
The princess, witnessing this scene, hesitated. Holding up her skirt, she wasn’t sure how to climb up.
Although she didn’t appreciate the Little Evil Dragon’s earlier comment about her weight, she was well aware that she was an adult. She worried that stepping on the large dragon’s back might hurt him.
“Just climb on,” Xie Hui said without turning around, having guessed the princess’s thoughts. After he spoke, Bert quickly marked the spot he wanted to stay with his tail.
“My apologies,” the princess said, knowing the Little Evil Dragon didn’t like her being too close to his father. She wasn’t offended by this and instead chose a spot a little farther away to sit.
While it wasn’t quite fair to make comparisons, the princess couldn’t help but think about it. On the way back, the Evil Dragon’s powerful wings flapped steadily, and she felt no turbulence sitting on his back. She could even spare a glance at the scenery below, a novel experience for her.
In contrast, on the way there, the little dragon beside her had clung to her clothes with his claws, sometimes switching to biting them. He would occasionally drop suddenly, making her heart race with fear.
Thinking of this, the princess glanced at the little dragon. Bert was obediently sitting on his father’s back, tilting his head up to bask in the sun. His main color was gold, but due to his young age, there were still traces of pale pink that hadn’t faded. Rather than a soft pink, the princess thought it resembled the fluffy, dreamy quality of feathers. If an artist used this color as the main theme of a painting, it would surely be praised by countless bards.
Bert, focused on the light, noticed someone watching him and quickly turned to see the princess looking at him. He snorted and turned his head away. He had worked so hard to bring her back, so why was she so eager to leave? Wasn’t staying in his cave good enough? He would certainly take good care of her. If he had a blade of grass to eat, she would definitely have a clump of mud to toss!
The princess, unsure of what had upset the Little Evil Dragon, maintained her composure and refrained from doing anything that might be displeasing. Sensing his dislike, she wisely avoided looking at him further.
Xie Hui’s flying speed was swift, and under the princess’s guidance, they soon arrived at her father’s kingdom. The Evil Dragon landed in the palace, causing the knights to panic, and a maid rushed to inform the king.
Upon hearing that the Evil Dragon had brought his daughter back, the king hurried out, not even bothering to wear his crown. Seeing that it was indeed his daughter, tears welled up in his eyes.
“My dear Seflin,” he called out.
The princess saw her aging father approaching and quickly went to meet him. As she reached him, the king instinctively wanted the knights to come and protect them.
Sensing her father’s intent, the princess quickly placed her hand on his wrist, pleading, “Father, please don’t. They are not as terrifying as the rumors say, and… they are my friends.”
The princess knew that if they hadn’t allowed her to leave, she would have been stuck there forever. The dragon’s lair was high, and attempting to escape would only lead to death. Even though she had been taken by the Little Evil Dragon, he hadn’t harmed her. Looking back, the princess even considered it a unique and wondrous experience.
“Friends? Seflin, how can you be friends with an Evil Dragon?” The king clearly disapproved, but respecting his daughter’s words, he waved the knights away.
“Father, look, isn’t the Little Evil Dragon adorable?”
Bert, noticing the attention, lifted his head proudly. Hmph, he didn’t want to be seen as cute by these humans!
